East Lawrence Recreation Center

Considering the city has numerous camp sites for the homeless I'm rather disappointed and let down with whoever is in charge of the east Lawrence rec center. Dab in the middle of the disc golf course is a large probably 8-10 person tent set up with a set of 3 extension cords running approx 100ft. And YES the person's working are aware. I'm all for the homeless having access to shelter but not at the expense of one of the few safe places I can take my family out for a nice day outdoors.

Very nice venue. After a bit of a mix up we had my granddaughters 1st birthday party. Turn out very nice.

Peter and Bev are absolutely amazing! The other lady, however, is sometimes snotty, but I think she was having a bad day, the next day, she was having a great day and was alot nicer! Easily Best place to go community building wise!

Great rec center in east Lawrence. We went here to watch a kids basketball game. The facility is clean and well kept and maintained. It offers a lot of different activities. This includes: a playground, pool table, ping pong table and a workout room with a good selection of equipment. There is plenty of seating or standing room for watching the games in the main gym. They have attendants available while open if you need help with anything.

This facility is far from a quality recreation center. It should be a valuable asset and well-run community center serving as a thriving hub of activity for youth, families, senior citizens, and more. Unfortunately, East Lawrence Recreation Center fails to serve the youth. Recreation Centers are supposed to have a positive impact on community youth and have a safe and adequately equipped space for physical activities and sports. They are supposed to create the perfect setting for local mentorship programs, guidance and leadership. This facility misses the mark entirely. My son who absolutely loves to visit the facility has been told numerous times that he is not allowed to enter the building to use the facility and he returns home frustrated and hurt that he is unable to use the basketball court or the other activities. The staff are rude, don't appear to like the job or maybe they just don't like kids, who knows. It is very apparent that the staff do not have a clear understanding what the actual written rules are and when they apply. This should not be happening and the youth need a place they can go that is fun and promotes health. Someone please do something to turn this around.

They had the room ready for us to set up and have a great time for our party. Great employees.

Great environment. Never too crowded. Work out area available for exercise. Also has an indoor basketball court.
