Very unprofessional. Didn’t return calls, texts or emails.failed to file documents in a timely manner. Didn’t complete tasks pertaining to the division of assets such as quit claims deeds. Didn’t notify me that the divorce was even final for almost 2 months. Over it was a terrible experience working with Attorney Smith. If you looking for help with an uncontested divorce I’d definitely look elsewhere.

I can’t express enough how helpful and kinda Cody was in my divorce! He really made an awful situation much more tolerable. From the first call while I was in tears right up to the end he was there taking care of me and my son. If you’re in a bad place he’s the right Lawyer to choose! Thank you Cody for taking such amazing care of me and my case.

Been almost a year since I paid him in February. Be a year in April since we signed. Still not divorced.
Took my first review down in August after he reached out to make things right. Crickets as we go into the New Year, he’s had plenty of time, I’m done waiting.
Be careful who you give your money to is my only advice to anyone reading these reviews.

Hired attorney and paid a flat fee for representation. He completed the paperwork but never turned it in to the courts. We filed the paperwork and he did not show up for trial. He ghosted us and haven’t heard from him since payment was made.

DO NOT use Cody SMITH as legal counsel!
We are reporting him to the Missouri Bar today as have others according to several sources. We found this out after voicing our concerns and frustration over his failure to complete paperwork, appear on our behalf and file in a timely manor causing our case to be dismissed. There have been many complaints over the past several months.
What started as a non contested divorce 10 months ago has now turned into a major legal issue.
He will take your money and run!
Many attempts have been made to call, text and email him with no response. He has no secretary or staff to speak of so showing up to his office will do you no good as he has his door locked at all times and will not open it.
I am not posting this to shame him but to inform other possible clients on what to expect and prevent more pain during a very difficult process.

Cody has been a great lawyer, great rates and great communication! So glad I went with him. He made everything very simple and explained every step. I would definitely recommend Cody Smith!

The price was right…but this man has no professionalism. Multiple mistakes on my divorce documents, wrong county of marriage, date of marriage, etc.it was like he combined someone else’s info to my paperwork. When I said something about it he had a major attitude about it. Idk about you but that to me is a serious issue. Even sent these mistake ridden documents to my ex. Took forever to get it fixed. He put it on the back burner because I told him about it. Even got a notice from the courts that my divorce was gonna be kicked back because he hadn’t done what was needed in the timeframe. I went to the courthouse myself and asked what was going on. Which I shouldn’t have had to do because I had an attorney. Just under the wire he submitted his paperwork because again I called him. Tracked my case on casenet and that was the only way I found out the judge signed. I NEVER RECEIVED A FINAL DIVORCE DECREE. NO PAPERWORK AT ALL WAS SENT TO ME REGARDING THE DIVORCE BEING FINALIZED. This man is an awful lawyer and human being! You shouldn’t cuss at a client because you got called on your mistakes. YES ITS A BIG DEAL WHEN YOU ARE FILING COURT DOCUMENTS TO HAVE THE CORRECT INFORMATION. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS MAN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

Gave him the money and he never filed. He doesn’t return calls or text messages. I gave him $1800 and he pretty much took my money and never did anything. Don’t waste your money on this lawyer. Since he took my money and never returned any of my phone call or text, I had to file my own divorce paper and guess what? I’m now divorce without his help. It’s sad that he ran off with my hard earned money but it’s okay because Karma will catch up to you.

He is a nice guy but did not answer his phone or return calls. You would expect someone to answer their phone during business hours or return calls if you hand them allot of money to represent you.

Cody Smith was a nice and friendly guy with decent rates, but an overall unprofessional attorney. He failed to show up to my divorce hearing which is inexcusable considering that is what he’s paid to do. His reasoning was that his child was sick (which is completely understandable as a mother myself, and requires no apology as that’s not the issue here at all), but he failed to communicate that ahead of time to the court or to me. The judge had me leave the courtroom to give Mr. Smith a call five minutes after the start of the hearing, and only then was I informed he wasn’t planning on showing up. It was an awkward, embarrassing, and frankly, a painful experience after a drawn out and complicated divorce that I desperately wanted to put behind me. But in the end, Mr. Smith did manage to get my divorce finalized.
