I recently filed a claim against Inn at Vanessie with the Santa Fe Better Business Bureau for false and misleading business practices. For starters, they show amenities on their website which aren’t even offered: there’s no restaurant, no bar, no fitness club. This is FALSE ADVERTISING to showcase products and services that aren’t even available – and haven't been for some time. Yet, they have the gall to charge an exorbitant $30 daily resort fee. We’ve stayed at many resorts over the years—Inn at Vanessie is no resort. It’s not even close. Besides the lack of amenities I already mentioned, there’s also no pool, no hot tub, no spa.

As for the continental breakfast, it consisted of nothing more than sweet snacks bought at Costco or some other store. Here's a short list: Brownie bites, cake, cinnamon rolls, Cookies & Cream and Strawberry yogurt, and sweet granola bars. How about PLAIN YOGURT rather than the sugary options they put out? The only fresh fruit were apples that were soft and mealy. In fact, there wasn’t one eatable healthy item on the table, which meant we had to pay for breakfast out every day, which added to the cost of our vacation.

Maybe this accounts for the many negative reviews found online lately. Essentially, Inn at Vanessie is charging guests for amenities that they cannot – or will not – provide, which is misleading and deceptive. On Oct. 19, I emailed the inn and respectfully asked for a refund of $120 for our 4-day stay, and there's been no response. There’s no owner to speak to and the managers on duty are no help at all. It’s shameful (and possibly illegal) that they continue to rip people off by being dishonest about their "resort" amenities, hence this review. They fail to acknowledge emails and don’t seem to care about customer service.

Management’s indifferent attitude should raise a red flag for future travelers who are considering this property. We'd never stay here again or recommend it. You shouldn’t either, or you’ll regret it.

We stayed here for two nights. It's close to the Plaza and some good restaurants.

Things to know before booking:
-The Restaurant and Piano Bar are closed, and have been for over a year. I couldn't find any mention of this on their web site.
-The $35 Resort fee basically covers on-site parking and a continental breakfast. Very basic, but not bad.
-Maintenance and upkeep of the property appears to be minimal at best

We stayed in the Galisteo room. It was nice. We wanted to stay at a more rustic/pueblo style place, and this room fits the bill. However:
-The room doesn't really match the photos I saw.
-The TV didn't work for our entire stay.
-The room (and other rooms we saw) included a giant swamp cooler in the middle of the floor. It worked, but it's an eyesore.
-In the bathroom shower, the hot and cold are reversed.
-It has a private courtyard and enclosed patio. This would be great, except the courtyard is overgrown and hasn't been weeded in months (judging by the trees growing under the table). It's probably been longer than that since the enclosed patio room was cleaned.

I spoke with several managers numerous times. They seemed nice, but never apologized for anything or even asked how our stay was when we checked out. We won't be going back, and can't recommend it for the premium prices they charge.

My sister and I booked two nights for the Inn at Vanessie. We checked into the hotel and only a few hours later, experienced a medical emergency, causing us to return home the following day. The hotel charged both nights, even with American Express disputing the charge for the second night. The owner/manager could not be reached, and no consideration was given for early departure. The Inn at Vanessie just wants your money. Bad Experience, I'll never go back.

Not sure why this is rated as a 4 star property (as Google has it), but it gets 4-stars from me! We don’t have any deal-breaking issues here.

Starting off with the good:
1. Location: this property is located centrally near any restaurant and bar you might want.
2. Vibes: cute, Santa Fe style and character.
3. Accommodation: The folks at the front desk were friendly and check is in early.

To the not-so-good:
1. Cleanliness: our room was quite dusty and had a few cobwebs.
2. Condition: Our room was in need of basic renovations from new grout in the shower to an updated A/C.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay, and if we were ever in Santa Fe again, this property would be on our short list.

Staff are horrible people. They won't honor insurance on reservation when our daughter has been hospitalized. The manager Mark is OK with taking our $1000, and then rebooking the room. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS ESTABLISMENT.

The pictures and the description of the “motel” are absolutely not accurate. There is no piano bar open. No restaurant open. This is in now way a resort. We were charged for a resort fee for each night we stayed and we had absolutely nothing besides a room to stay in. I booked a larger room and they gave me the incorrect room for the booking. We woke up with ants (at least 100) ants in the bed. The staff was very apologetic but they could not do anything because the owner doesn’t seem to care about the customer’s satisfaction. DO NOT BOOK HERE. The Hilton is very close

Not as nice as the pictures. Mark at the front desk was rude and unpleasant upon check in. When I stated my apprehension on the look of the Inn he laughed and stated well its non refundable. Having no other option I checked in and he followed me outside to watch me walk to my room which was creepy. I tried to email twice about my complaints and haven't heard from anyone. I didn't end up staying here and definitely don't recommend it for others. Very upsetting.

I debated for awhile between 3 and 4 starts, but I decided on 4 and will go into the why I was thinking 3 later. For reference, we stayed in the Maya.

Pros.
•First of all, location. This place is so close to all the cool features of downtown Santa Fe that we legit walked almost everywhere (even in the rain!).
•The staff was insanely friendly, the guy who checked us in was there on his night off, so his coworker could have a break and told us all his favorite spots.
•Comfortable bed, nice sized shower, plenty of counter space in the bathroom.

Cons.
•Parking isn't the most ideal, as the lot isnt all yoo big (but we always got a spot.) It just appears they block spots with cones to prevent non tenants from parking but it would be helpful if they told us that's what they were doing.
•The TV wasn't really all that great. It was hard to get it to respond to the remote, you had to be in the EXACT perfect spot.
•The exterior door was easy to unlock but near impossible to lock (from the outside). It seems like the other tenants, like us, just all had a mutual silent understanding that we wouldn't bother trying because it never worked. (We always locked from the inside though).
•The biggest con and a very common complaint is the resort fee. $186 I believe it was.but the piano bar and restaurant are both closed (sign says permanently). You aren't really getting a single perk - they should, at minimum, lower the fee because the perks you used to get no longer even exist.

And now, the reason I considered 3 stars. We saw one roach on our 2nd to last night. I al taking into consideration that it rained A LOT, especially that day and I know that draws them inside. However, what made me want to drop the rating is that it ended up crawling back into a hole in the wall near the mirror. (We never saw one again after that). I strongly encourage this place seal up their walls to prevent things like this - as this could have been a much worse experience.

Young female traveler with her preteen son here. Absolutely amazing hotel. So beautiful and comfortable. There is not 24/7 service or room service so be mindful of that. Otherwise- we absolutely loved it.

Made reservation and was for wrong night. I called and left message. Had the site I used call also. Took several days to respond. With the delay I had to reserve another hotel. Now they won't refund the $

Our stay was wonderful. The room was beautiful, cozy and romantic and the staff was amazing. They were so helpful and referred us to the most delicious restaurant. ALWAYS my favorite place to stay when in Santa Fe

When entering the "lobby" there is no lobby. You have to look around and the go into an.office where a man is sitting dow. Next we were charged a resort fee when there was never a of a resort fee. Resort fees are supposed to include things like swi.ming pools, spas, restaurants, bars. There was none of that. Restaurant and bar are closed. No mention of that anywhere. The property is. Ot being maintained. There is a ductless air conditioner on the wall but it doesn't work. They have put in a free standing water cooler that blocks the way to the bathroom. The one positive is a decent bed. The floor in the bathroom needs a good cleaning.

This must be a cute little hotel, when it's clean and repaired. The front desk folks were incredibly sweet, but we had to leave the hotel. The roof was leaking.there was hair clippings on our pillows and spiders had setup in the corners. An old dried ice cream (bird poo?) on the inside coffee table. The owners need to put a little cash into repairs here, and also, don't put good customers in unclean rooms.

I was notified there would be an additional $30 resort charge when arriving. I was never made aware of this. The room had been cleaned very poorly. Def. Not worth the price.

Choose because it is pet friendly and I needed a night stay while traveling. Staff was very helpful, the room was nice and it's a great location. One thing, if you are a light sleeper I suggest you get an upstairs room.

I was very disappointed that they failed to disclose the extra fees in their online ads. After arriving, the smug clerk failed to work with us on the issue and compounded the issue by being a jerk.

All was well. We stayed 5/26-5/28. Room was clean. On early morning of 5/28 we were awoken by the Sante Fe PD because of a altercation over the night with the room next door that we heard and had concerns. The manager was present with the Sante Fe Police Department at 0655am and woke us up. When we checked out, there was no one present at the front desk for hours so we called the regular number and also the after hour number and I left a voicemail. I called again and spoke with the manager on duty (Mark). I discussed my concerns. There was no empathy and he stated that what happens on the property wasn't their fault. No service recovery or bill reduction. No attempts made at a solution on their behalf. I would not recommend this as a place to stay as it was concerning. There is a resort charge applied with the bill, but no resort amenities. I would recommend finding something elsewhere for the price.

Checked in and found someone's hair on pillows, moldy (or bloody?) stains on sheets, nasty, smelly old fridge and paper walls so thin you could hear your neighbor drop a pin (I wish it was that—we heard moaning and swearing instead). This "hotel" is not a place to stay—unhealthy, gross and ran down. We had to change hotels the same day. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
