Urban Greens Co-op Market reviews
15Great variety of selection from fresh produce to prepared hot meals. I had the chilly soup highly recommend. I was not able to find as much organic produce as I would have liked. Locally sourced brands such as Gotham Garden. Cool building and has great parking. Will come back to try the others soups.
Staff is rude and sometimes abusive to other employees infront of customers. Witnessed a situation about a week ago that seriously has me doubting if I'll return. I only gave the 2nd star because of how much I've enjoyed coming here over the years, but watching a series of abusive or rude behavior directed at staff members who are minorities makes me question the values of the co op. Very disappointing
I have been staying in Providence for about a month for work. Living in a motel without a microwave and with a very small fridge. This place has saved my food budget. They have great deli food, soups, etc. I come here every few days and stock up. It's a great little co-op. I'm from Madison, Wisconsin, where we have a long tradition of co-ops. Urban Greens embodies co-op values so beautifully - consciously purchased products, and many locally produced. The people who work here have been warm and welcoming. It's clean and bright and well stocked. Give it a whirl if you've never been in! I wish they had a place you could eat inside/a meeting room. Maybe in summer there is outdoor seating.
They need to bring back the hummus and roasted veggie wraps. Their prepared foods section has gone WAY down hill in recent months.
I am vegan, and surprisingly for Providence, I find it hard to find vegan products at an affordable price. Urban greens has everything that I need. I also found the bulk section very very affordable. If you can, bring your own jar to fill it up. The only mild disappointment is the lack of variety of produce, the produce section is relatively small. I think I’ll make this my go to grocery.
Since this co-op opened, I have seen it undergo a number of positive changes. There are things that I only get at the co-op: Wright's Dairy heavy cream and milk, for example. Plus I am happy to pick up a few items because I want to support 'Local. ' As with any small and fairly new business I expect there will 'tweaking' here and there.
The only thing I hope they work on is delivery. They depend on Door Dash and the fees/tips make home delivery expensive. Plus, they only have set delivery times. If you place an order when they open the store at 8am, the first delivery is not until 2: 30pm. I normally have to take 2 buses to the store. On a day with decent weather or even rainy weather, it's not a problem to go there. But on days when the heat is brutal and unhealthy, delivery is the only option.
I'm not sure how to rectify this; I'm just hoping they will look into another, more cost effective way of implementing delivery services. Until then, I will try to use the service only if I absolutely need it.
Otherwise, I'll definitely continue to do some shopping there. The store is always clean, I see more variety. They are working with a limited space so I see them reconfiguring the sections periodically. I also don't expect the prices to be the same as a big store (where they buy in big quantities for a lower price point.) Same with organic foods: they are pricier than non-organic and smaller stores often cannot absorb that cost, especially starting out. I'm fine with that because I don't do all my shopping there.
I definitely recommend the place.
SHOP LOCAL AND SHOP SMALL ALWAYS! Massive grocery stores that take huge amounts of money and profits away from local communities every single day should no longer be supported. I always go here instead. They have everything I need. It is really not that much more expensive than a giant grocery store and I would rather give a few extra bucks to a Co op than a giant offshore corporation that just wants to siphon money away from smaller businesses.
First time to this co-op. I came looking for organic produce which co-ops typically do very well in this area, but left extremely disappointed. Their selection of organic produce was dismal, as they carried mostly conventional produce and only a small selection of organic. I am used to co-ops that only carry organic or locally produced produce that has been vetted for quality by the co-op. Everything else in this small store can be purchased at Whole Foods for cheaper, so it’s not really worth the trip in my honest opinion.
The people who work there get to know you on a first name basis and whenever I shop there whether in person or calling ahead so my assistant can pick up is always very easy and top quality.
All the staples you need, plus a lot of really interesting unique finds. Everything top quality. And their prepared foods are fantastic! Way better than anything at Whole Foods.
Love this place. We try and go for our dinner supplies at least once a week. It's small but the food they carry is awesome and the prices are way better then chain stores. Fresh everything!
A lovely little shop with incredible fresh food. A must visit place for those who appreciate quality groceries.
Jamie the front end supervisor or whatever her job description is, is absolutely amazing and an incredible asset.
She was very patient with helping me resolve my payment issue and because of that I ended up with a nice smile on my face.
Thank you Jamie! Go have a coffee break
This co-op is a great community market. I can usually find everything I need quickly. The size is just right - large enough to stock the essentials without being overwhelming.
The most stress free food shopping experience in Providence since I moved here 17yrs ago. Everything you want, nothing you don't. Friendly staff. Clean bathroom.
