My husband tried to take his life and spent almost 2 weeks there, he is still suicidal and very unstable. Why did they release him knowing that he is in this condition, someone that still expressed suicidal tendencies
shouldn't have been able to discharge. Very unprofessional
Do not go there, don't believe the shiny clean building, Terrible things go on in this nightmare place.

They really care. B unit has been so nice to me even when I’ve given them every reason not to be. Shout out to Amy, Riley, Alison, Chase, and I’m so upset I can’t remember the other girl’s name. But not even just them. Everyone goes above and beyond and treats us with respect and compassion. Obviously being there usually means things aren’t going well and to have such a caring staff truly makes all the difference. Thank you for all you do. Truly saving lives everyday!

I'm a foster mom and the first time I was there, they put my foster daughter with an intern. Once they graduated, she had to see another therapist and she didn't want to talk anymore, because she got tired of telling her story over and over and over again. She still says this. Foster kids are NOT second class and should see a therapist that can stick with them.
One can expect to spend four hours to be admitted and one night, we got so tired of waiting to see if the thought we should stay, or go, we left.
Today, I took time away from work, waited an hour and five minutes for a scheduled appointment and finally left. It made me feel like my time isn't valuable and I understand emergencies can happen, but they should have a plan for these things. I don't trust them to give them anymore of my time, only to leave frustrated and behind at work.
Staff are all very polite and caring, but they need to work on wait times.

Nurses were really accommodating and friendly, clean environment, lots of natural lighting and the food was good for a hospital. Took one star off because my doctor was very dismissive of my concerns. After working with PNPs and therapists I found out that I likely got a misdiagnosis.

They treated me like I was Jack Nicholson in one flew over the cuckoos nest. I had to escape in order to avoid a lobotomy. Very evil place.

Waited over an hr with no real answers as ppl who came in well after had been taken back.stg if you didnt have mental health challenges before coming the unattentive self consumed staff in the waiting area will definitely make you feel as tho you do.maybe once we're finally seen my opinion may change
Also a good rule thumb may be not to discuss how great your life is within earshot of suicidal patients

Horrible facility, I was assaulted by a security guard and when I complained they called the police. They also denied me medical treatment for my injuries despite my pleas for help. Now I need surgery to repair the injury inflicted. Stay away

Had a few issues but overall 4 out of 5 stars! I hope like most of the hospital staff has a good Christmas! They deserve it, they went the extra mile. I would be more than happy to donate for Christmas toys, books, games, bibles. Any sort of donations that can be accepted, so people aren’t bored and have something happy or fun to do.

I was here about a month ago and 2 other times. It was OK we had to watch this show called auto b good and do CBT it was OK and it was worksheets basically we also did gym stuff we got to choose our meals and. Adopter came in for about 10 to 20 minutes to talk to each of us I have been on child unit and absolesent 1. My most recent stay was good too but more of my peers went off it scred me but the stulaff do a good job taking care of it and preparing your discharge

Once again I was well taken care of at Avera. Fully staffed with true professionals, they meet every need. Drs, nurses, techs, social workers, counselors, all are attentive and caring.
Avera Behavioral is the mecca for mental health services in the midwest. God bless all of you who work there from the Drs and nurses to those preparing the wonderful nourishing meals and keeping the unit immaculately clean.

This place was nice, they helped me find the tools to use when I'm struggling and ways to overcome obstacles. The nurses and doctors were great to me and others that were staying at the time. However, the teacher in the adolescent unit NEEDS to be replaced.

I recently went to this nightmare of a place. I went in having tried killing myself. They put me on a hold within three days I was discharged to the streets. Came in two days later. I kept telling the doctors over and over I'm not stable enough to leave I saw the board of the state doctor told him the same thing he took my hold off I was discharged I have paperwork from was there and it said even if discharge I have a right to voluntary stay there until the help I need and are stable on new meds it makes me sick to my stomach it's all dollars to them the techs and nurses forced me to leave I even showed them the paperwork on my right to voluntary stay if your having a mental health crisis do not come here. I asked if I could go to HSC in Yankton for 30 days to stable out my bipolar I didn't meet their criteria I left with alot more anxiety depression and suicidal thoughts

Nothing short of a prison. Went in bad and cane out worse. The experience in the hospital was worse than what landed me there in the first place.

If I could give zero stars I would. First experience at this facility was a nightmare. Now within a year they want me to fill out all new paperwork & wait forever to get meds

Nurses were horrible. Doctors were incompetent and wouldn't listen to my family who clearly know my mental health history. They misdiagnosed me when I was clearly in psychosis. I received no help and came out worse and with a lot of bills. I was not allowed a brush so my hair was very matted. I was not really treated like a human being. I did enjoy spending time with some of the people I met there and ranting to them about how horrible this place is. Would not recommend!

I stayed at Behavioral Health back in May of 2022. The majority of the staff was helpful and kind. But there was one head nurse (older blonde lady) who was very condescending. Talked to adult patients like we were children. During my stay we had a couple tornado warnings and had to shelter in one of the halls. One woman got so scared she passed out. One nurse rushed to her side to help while this “head nurse” just turned around and roller her eyes. The other patients were more helpful at making me feel better than the actual program. While I do believe the majority of the staff truly care, the program itself is lacking in effectiveness.
