I was looking for a horse rescue to volunteer at, and after checking out a few. I decided this was the one. Though it is 50min drive from my house, the owners dedication in ensuring the horses are found the best possible match for their new home captivated me. They encourage the volunteers to be active in the general care of the horses and do everything possible to see that the horses live the best life possible #ottb

We love this horse ranch! My daughter and I feel so fortunate to have found this horse rescue to volunteer regularly at! The horses are so well cared for and the volunteer staff is amazing to work alongside with. Amazing place!

Years ago I was introduced to this rescue after a friend of my dad found out how much I love horses. I visited their old location and helped out with chores, but due to being young I did not have a car and school interfered with my ability to volunteer. Two years ago during my freshman year of college I needed volunteer hours and I immediately thought of After the Homestretch. Danielle welcomed me back with open arms and I have been volunteering there ever since. During every shift I learn something new and am always thrilled to see the horses and catch up with them. Taking care of them is the highlight of my week and Danielle is always so happy to see us working with the horses and enriching their lives. The ranch is very organized and emails are sent out regularly to volunteers to make sure everyone is on the same page. There is always someone around to answer questions and we have multiple people to text/call if we need professional help or advice. Overall this rescue is very well run and the horses are exceptionally cared for and important to not just Danielle, but all of the volunteers.

I started volunteering here two years ago and have had a wonderful experience. Not only did I get to be around all the beautiful horses, But I've met so many new friends and serving there has enriched my life in many ways. It led to me adopting one of the horses there and the adoption process was smooth and easy. I still volunteer there because I believe so much in their mission to provide a safe and loving home for these retired race horses. I cannot recommend them enough if you're looking for a place to volunteer and make a difference or looking to provide a home for a retired racehorse.

I am a new volunteer at After The Homestretch. I had heard about this organization from the local news channel and thought that this would be a good fit for me. The work that they were doing with the rehabilitation and re-homing of these magnificent thoroughbreds really hit home for me.
I met Susan, the volunteer coordinator, and Danielle, on the board of directors, the very first day I showed up for orientation. Both were very friendly and made me feel right at ease. I did not have a lot of experience with horses other than going on a few "nose to tail" rides at the local horse rental place in the city I used to live in, but they assured me that no experience was necessary in order to be a great contributor to the care of the horses. They were right. I enjoy every minute of my work here. And although I have only been a volunteer for a few short months, I have met many, many wonderful people who truly care for and love these horses. It is such a great joy when one of the "herd" gets adopted or comes out of therapy to be retrained for it's new chapter in life.

If you are considering any volunteer work and/or are looking for an exceptional horse to adopt, go to the web site, meet the herd and call "After The Homestretch" for an appt.to volunteer or to see if one of the herd is right for you.

I had the pleasure of volunteering here for more than a year, everyone on site is very friendly and welcoming to anyone. Very professional in regards to the care of the horses, but also providing a familial atmosphere that makes going there extremely enjoyable.

I have been a volunteer with ATHA for over 6 years. Our founder, Dannielle, is very, very careful with these amazing retirees. She checks everything about possible adopters of these horses and does not just randomly let someone adopt. These horses are so well taken care of that ATHA receives grants which are not easily given out. She has to follow alot of important criteria - and she does that. As a volunteer, we have to also follow rules regarding the care and feeding of the horses - and she is very strict on that. We just want to make sure that the horses go to good, loving homes, and that they also fit the person adopting them - Dannielle is very cautious about making sure the horse is safe as well as the person. Was a big waste of time drove hours away to bring my children to come view the horses MULTIPLE OF times over 100 mile round trip.were told not allowed test riding them out or running them in the arena Danielle doesn't return phone calls was not truthful in her statements Was alsom told by Her that there verry particular whom she adipts her horses to and was preducice to whom she gave the horses out too whom she infa sized in her statement. Danielle was willing to answer my calls and speak to me for hours but not ok with speaking to my wife (black/african american) I WILL NOT BE INTERESTED IN HER SERVICES AND DONT RECOMMEND WORKING WITH This PERSON or there company! AND WOULD BE AWARE OF DANIELLE BEFORE ADOPTING ANYTHING FROM HER! SHE SEEMED MORE CONCERNED ABOUT DOMATIONS MORE THEN ADOPTING THE HORSE'S OIT TO A GOOD FAMILY.
Our facility is perfectly fine brand new stalls over a thousand square foot per horse with Arena multiple acres in nice brand new living environment for horses larger then what there living in pluss lots of support family and loved ones to care for them on a regular. Danielle's would be perfectly fine to go to for purchasing as long as you're not African American!
