Amerind Museum reviews
21This is a MUST visit. No where have we see such exquisite array of American Indian history, with explanations. It is in the middle of no where, but easy to find, in a very peaceful and beautiful location. This is one museum not to miss.
Dusty place the “artifacts” are all brand new and for sale. Instead of plaques they have old dresser drawers with binders of information. No photos allowed because if you saw what it looked like you wouldn’t go
12/2/02/23 Certainly very interesting concept and the items inside were interesting to look at. They didn't have displays. They had a book for you to go through instead of plaques identifying things but it was interesting and I don't regret going. Keep in mind it's $12 a person to enter. I'm not sure everyone will find it worth $12. You cannot take any photos inside. And it is not handicap friendly once you get inside. Even the restroom is not handicap friendly and I'm wondering if those are the reasons you can't take photos, but I also found it to be very dusty. They were cobwebs on the artwork. There was a Native American piece that you were able to see within just a couple of inches of your face and the cobwebs were everywhere. There was dust on the shelving and two women just sitting at the front. Chit-chatting the entire hour we were there. They did nothing but sit there and chit chat.
We really enjoyed the museum. The art galley is very limited on it's exhibits, although they were setting up 2 more rooms. We did not do the hiking trails but looked to be easy ones.
Great place for Native American history and local trails. Note that trails close shortly before the museum does. No photographs allowed inside. Good bookstore too.
Phenomenal find. The Amerind is a very underrated museum that needs more love. It is a small, two story museum, with tons of artifacts from different tribes throughout the years. It also contains an art gallery with many works that you can buy.
It is mostly run by passionate volunteers, who are the nicest people that you can meet. I highly recommend giving this place a visit if you are anywhere within Cochise County.
We didn't go into the museum as we were pressed for time.
We were interested in seeing the rocks close up and stretching our legs.
Can't wait to go back and check out the museum when we have more time.
Good hiking but rude attendants and ridiculous high prices for such a simple place. Worth a visit once, I guess.
World class display of Native American art and life. Also great hiking trails in natural desert
Neat place full of a bunch of artifacts from local people. This place doesn’t really have the imperialist feel that many of these types of places have- instead it is more of an appreciation of local indigenous people and cultures. No photos are allowed in the museum. If you’re local- get a culture pass from the library! With a culture pass you get 2 admissions
The museum is very nice, but the surrounding country with the fantastically eroded rocks is awesome.
Absolutely stunning location, wonderful picnic area in the wild shaped boulders and some church doors hand carved from Mexico I. 1665 that are just breathtaking. I personally had a serious problem with the lady at the visitor center. I had poked my head in and then came in to have a quick peek because my granddaughter had fallen asleep on the way there so I was waiting for her to wake up. Tammy was inhospitable and even mean in saying it wasn’t alright to have a look because an admission was charged. Her manner was enough to ruin anyone’s day, a darn shame people have to act like that, especially in a business.other than her rude behavior, this place seemed like a great place to visit. My granddaughter and I will be going elsewhere now though. Lots of places to go and nice people to see!
This is a very interesting small private museum for those interested in American Indian culture and artifacts. They have a large curated selection with some interesting exhibits about history and culture.
Very much worth the trip to Dragoon, AZ. Not far from Benson, Tucson, Tombstone. Very professional exhibits. Smithsonian quality artifacts. Beautiful desert grounds to stroll around. Educational exhibits upstairs about contemporary artists and community cultural activities. Art gallery next door with unparalleled ceramics and art for purchase. NO PHOTOS allowed. Bring water and food, no places nearby to eat. $10 senior tickets. Our library had free passes!
Hadn't been there in years, so interesting and the area is lovely. Made for a great day trip!
I toured the museum and loved the experience so much that I became a member. I recommend allowing several hours for the museum, and additional time to browse the art gallery.
I am really excited about the trails through the rock formations that will be open in October.
I was traveling and saw the Amerind Museum sign and had to stop. Placed in the Dragoon area, and surrounding land is beautiful. The museum and gallery in old southwest church style buildings. They have a great book selection with historical literature on Germino, Cochise and beyond. The museum focuses on a broad tribal surrounding area. Didn't have enough time the first visit, definitely carve out more time later.
We went there to hike the new trail system with the trail designer prior to it's official opening in Oct 23.
The trails are amazing and the whole area is beautiful.
This was the first museum my youngest 2 kids had ever been to. They really found the exhibits fascinating and they enjoyed the childrens work bench!
Even my teenager found it impressive!
Its definitely worth the stop and its right off the main highway. Plus you get to see the art museum too. We really enjoyed our trip here.
Wonderful museum not to be missed. Allow a minimum of 3 hours. Reasonable entrance fee. Nice grounds and picnic area. I would suggest better/more lighting and larger/bolder placards.many were very difficult to read.
