Batter's Box Baseball Cards reviews
15It was like a Russian bath house with rude overweight older men who think they are something special, would give 0 stars if possible
Spent well over $500 at this store over 4 visits, the last one I noticed they offer a ticket for a drawing if you spend over $50, you would think the owner would inform new customers of this, makes me think its probably rigged to have only the owners certain clients win. (The clerk working never told me and my last visit I only spent $35 so I did not bother asking him)
Their weekly auctions seem to be rigged so that regulars get preferential treatment, and don't even have to be present to bid! It also seems that the auctioneer takes "fake" bids from ringers placed throughout audience, to drive prices up, and at times, to prevent items from being won, if bids are too low.
I have been dealing with the Batters Box for many years as a customer and as a dealer. Dave and Mike are very honest and everyone who has worked with them throughout the years would never question their honesty. In addition, the prices are very reasonable. Everything is priced to sell.
Regarding the weekly auction, yes, if you have a bidder number you can leave your bids with Dave and he will have one of the regulars bid for you. Auction houses across the country allow similar "proxy" bidding. For a reviewer that thinks providing this service to regular customers "rigs" the auction obviously has not participated in many auctions. Its no different than putting your highest bid on an EBay item a week before the auction and never looking at it. Uh, no, there are no fake bids to drive prices up. For a reviewer that to even suggest that is slanderous. Show up more often and you will see the deals you can get.
The Batters Box has been in business for over 30 years. There are few small businesses in the Phoenix area that have survived for that length of time. You do not stay in business this long by being dishonest. For a reviewer to suggest that is appalling.
Also, another reviewer gave one star because "they only sell sports cards". There is a limited amount of non sports as well, but, yes, this is primarily a Sports Card store, hence, the name "Batters Box".
In closing, if you want to pay a fair price for your sports cards, deal with honest people and sell your pre-1975 sports cards at a fair price, go to the Batters Box.
Friendly, knowledgeable and fair. They have a vast selection of cards. Everything is organized and displayed so you can get a good look at them.
Normally receive good service when shopping here. However the older gentleman working tonight made it out that me attempting to make a purchase was a burden to him along with repeatedly making comments that I wasn't spending enough and he was "losing money" by me not spending more. Will not return.
Great Sports Card shop! Dave and Mike have been in business for as long as I can remember, so they must be doing something right! Honest assessments if you have something to sell, neat place to buy, a variety of items to choose from. The bid board is fun to check out, ongoing auctions make things interesting as you can write in your bid or attend live! I highly recommend this shop, I've been doing business with them for years!
Went into the shop, stood there looking at cards for quite some time before either of them acknowledged me. ***ONLY BASEBALL CARDS*** Would only sell the entire box of basketball cards as a whole because "Customers can feel for the inserts and we don't like that. " Isn't that what its all about?
I will never do business with this shop again. Rude people. Made me feel like my 20 year old perfect condition top players and rare rookie cards were garbage. Randy Johnson, Kurt Schilling, A-Rod etc.were junk.
Mike and Dave are the best. Been here forever and hope it stays that way. Keep collecting baseball cards
Great store owner opened early today to sell me some top loader cards when I happened to arrive before he was opened. I really appreciated how nice he was in doing this. I will be back!
I've been going to the Batters Box for many years. The owners are extremely knowledgeable about vintage cards, autographs etc. Give these guys a try-you wont regret it.
Good selection of baseball cards and hobby boxes at competitive pricing. I like to support local small business so I buy here instead of online if I can.
I have been buying and auctioning cards at this shop for over 20 yrs. I have never once got a bad deal or bad service. This is one of the best sports card shops in Phoenix. I will continue to do my trading at this shop for many years to come. Mike and Dave are very knowledgeable about the sports card business and run a nice shop.
