We had to go to the ER due to the fact my husband had chest pains. Horrible experience. Like being in a third world country. No gloves when doing blood work. Rude EMT named Adam, pushed my husband's arm and told him he needed to be a le to recite his meds. My husband has dementia.
We sat in the waiting room from
4p and were not taken back until 2am. Then sat in a room with people vomiting, and they turned on a fan; We were told that he was being admitted. But at 4am, we were told someone else needed hi best. We were sent home Horrible, unprofessional and rude Smstaff!

They have a pretty good racket going on here. Check people in, immediately get their insurance and payment Information, then ignore them until they get mad and leave.
I was going to leave this review at that, but the rest of this visit was too good not to share.
I came to this emergency room knowing it was going to be a horrible experience based on every other visit I've been involved with here. I've sworn I would NEVER come back, but my urologist works from this hospital, and it was closest to where I work. (I hoped that I may be able to return to work before my shift was over) Well, that didn't happen. In fact, I got to the emergency room at 6: 30 pm on Monday. I was told I'm being admitted about 6 hours later for an 11 mm kidney stone that needed to be removed, because it was too large to pass naturally. 20 HOURS after my arrival, I was admitted into a room. That's right, I sat in a chair in the emergency room until 2: 30 in the afternoon THE NEXT DAY. I was told that I wasn't allowed to eat, nor was I allowed to go and get the medications that I take, two of which are pain meds, for a chronic disease in my spine. Now, when I was finally given a bed, (again, the next day) the bed was broken. None of the controls would respond, and it would not go flat. So having a disease in my spine, and the pain of an 11 millimeter kidney stone combined with a bed that had a constant slight angle bent into it, was unbelievable. When I asked for a functioning bed, I was told that they would get me one right away. When I was released 3 days later, I was still in the same bed.
Now, as I mentioned, I was denied food, and my medications, some of which I am dependant on, and will go through withdrawal if I don't take them. I made every nurse and doctor that I came in contact with aware of this fact. I was asked to provide a list of my medications so they could provide them for me. Again, when I was released 3 days later, they provided NONE of them. If I hadn't had my fiancee bring me a burger and my meds, I would have gone into opioid withdrawal, AND not eaten for nearly 35 hours.
While I sat in the waiting room for those 20 hours, I saw sick and injured humans being neglected in a fashion I would never have dreamed would happen in this country in modern times. I had an elderly woman beside me who started asking for help to the restroom about 45 minutes before I got up went to find a nurse and asked that someone acknowledge this woman's cries for help, or I would carry her to the restroom myself. I saw homeless people come in with bags of belongings and make camp among the sick and immunocompromised where they were ignored with the rest of the patients. The other reviews will accurately describe the condition of this emergency room. Blood on chairs, filthy restrooms, stains on the floors, walls and toilets and trash bins full and overflowing.
Several times during my stay and after my surgery, I would hit the button for a nurse to come to my room for various reasons. That alarm would go unanswered, until I would get up out of my broken bed, drag my i.v. Stand down the hall, and interrupt the nurses conversations or snack time to get their help with whatever I needed.
This hospital is like a 3rd world country, and the way they brazenly ignore the health and welfare of their patients is absolutely unbelievable.
I could go on and on, but it's not going to make any difference. Hopefully, someone will read this review and go somewhere else. That's the best outcome I could hope for.

My experience at St Joseph Hospital's ER was absolutely horrendous. As a Covid recovery patient with a compromised immune system, I called 911 and was brought to the hospital in an ambulance. From the moment I arrived, the level of sanitation was appalling. During the vitals check, the staff did not use gloves, putting both myself and others at risk. When I had Covid, flu, and strep tests done, once again, gloves were not used.

Not only was the lack of sanitation disturbing, but the nurses on staff were incredibly rude. One nurse in particular, a short, blonde woman with glasses, was extremely disrespectful, asking me why I was there in a condescending tone instead of politely inquiring about my symptoms. This was not the only instance of rudeness, as I was repeatedly asked the same question by another nurse in a disrespectful manner. Additionally, despite the fact that I am disabled and wear leg braces, my request for a wheelchair was completely ignored.

When I questioned the staff about my admission status and was met with a dismissive and rude response, I made the decision to leave and seek medical care elsewhere. It was a shocking and disappointing experience to encounter such unprofessional and disrespectful behavior from hospital staff. I will never return to St Joseph Hospital for emergency care. My advice to anyone considering seeking treatment at this hospital is to do so with extreme caution.

This place looks extremely unprofessional. And why do you have a big @ss speaker on the check in window? People dont need to know other patients business! The bathrooms are so creepy and dirty, felt like I was at a haunted hospital. Couldn't find a tissue when i had a runny nose at the waiting area, and there's no toilet covers. Thankfully, i was treated well by the nurses on shift. I like the cute Asian guy nurse too. Additionally, my female doctor with blonde long hair who's about 6'9 was really beautiful, professional, compassionte and she did everything she could to make sure I was okay rather then just giving me pills and sending me off even though I was rushing cuz I had work. I rate the physical environment 0.

I was in the waiting room for 12 hours waiting for blood work to come back after an acute health scare. Fast forward today, a few days later, I am battling pneumonia, unrelated to my original visit and on antibiotics. Don’t make my mistake, wear a mask in this facility.

I was honestly shocked to see the reviews on here. I have always had a pleasant experience at this ER. My husband got in a car accident a year ago and everyone was super attentive and caring towards him.
I also went a few days ago for pain on my side and the whole experience took less than 5 hours. The entire staff that I interacted with were amazing. Great manners, worked quickly to get me pain meds, took my complaints seriously. They were bringing people food when asked, blankets. I am very grateful for them.

I made the mistake of calling 911 and having my daughter go here after she had a major surgery. The paramedics came to pick her up because she wasn't doing well and I wasn't sure what was going on. The captain was very nice and said they would take her in the ambulance and that I should check in with the front desk. I went to the front desk immediately upon arrival. The young man working at the front desk told me to have a seat and someone would come out to speak with me.
I sat there for over four hours and not a soul came out to talk with me. I called in the ER trying to get answers and they wouldn't tell me a thing. Finally, when I called in a nurse said she won't be getting visitors. I was completely in shock.
I started to explain and she had no time for me. Another time when I called in a charge nurse hung up on me.
Later that evening a nurse named Leah spoke with me a bit.
I told her that I was expecting to speak to someone and waited in the emergency waiting room. She said that there were no messages given to her about my prior calls and wanting to speak with my daughter. They had no idea that I was waiting for her. There is so much more to this story that I decided to hold off on writing but I want you to know if you care and love someone do not send or take them to this hospital.

Dirty, Slow, food was HORRIBLE, It cost me over a hundred dollars for three days to go pick up some decent food for my wife out in town. In the morning they would order an x-ray and they wouldn't show up for 6 hours. On mon the doctor supposedly ordered an ultrasound and 24 hours later he looked bewildered that it wasn't done. My wife and I were here for three days and this all could ave been done in two days "my opinion". If Carondelet wants to say for observation, for what they hardly show up with anything and kept asking my wife why are you here! The more I think about it the process is unorganized. Hopefully my wife and I never have to return. I will travel out of my way to go anywhere else. I can't wait to hear the excuses this horrible company had to say.

My friend's mom was brought in at 2: 00 a.m. By ambulance it's now 7: 00 pm in the evening and she's still in the ER waiting for a room
17 hours is excessive and unacceptable
They need to do something to improve the facility

Worst hospital I’ve ever been to. I wish I could give this a zero star. My husband was sent here after an accident and the nurses were too busy talking to each other to take care of him. He sat there for at least 5 hours in excruciating pain and they didn’t do anything for him. The doctor also lied to me, told me that they scanned his head for brain bleed when they did not. They also got his birth date wrong on his paperwork so we had to go back to get it fixed. Their system was down so they told us they would send it out, 3 months later, still no paperwork…

This is the worst hospital, have ever experienced. All of them try to play power struggle, instead of getting their jobs done. They keep you locked up against your will consistently, and make lies as why you can't leave. The inside of the hospital is extremely scary, and dirty! Keep your loved ones alive, start away!

Your staff in the er are atrocious I went back and heard a nurse laughing that she had hurt a child some of her colleagues came to say why did you do that on purpose? ! And then I got the pleasure of dealing with her she was so awful I left after talking to her a minute because she was so condescending and the rest of the staff tried to cut her off before she said more offensive things but she just kept on. Avoid the blonde nurse that likes pink if you want to be treated

I’m 58 years old, a Tucson native and have gone to the St. Joseph’s emergency center at least a dozen times over the last 30 years. I must say, this place has gone to the dogs.

I tested positive for Covid on Saturday morning. After trying unsuccessfully to get ahold of my primary doctor (another story) I decided to go to St. J’s ER to see if I needed anything special since I’m in a high-risk category. My arrival time was 12: 01 p.m.

First, this facility now has patients doing their check-in information online. This used to be accomplished by actual human beings. It’s a slow process, and puts more responsibility on the patient at a time when some are very ill - which I was; massive headache, body aches, fever, chills etc. It’s clearly a cost-cutting measure which externalizes the expense to the patient. This is not okay.

I waited over an hour to be triaged. The nurse apologized for the wait. I was sent back to the waiting room for another half hour, after which I was taken to a “vertical bed” which is an uncomfortable recliner in what used to be another part of the waiting room. There were seven other vertical beds in that room, all of which were occupied by patients. These so-called “beds” are, maybe, six feet apart centerline to centerline and are separated only by curtains. None of the patients’ privacy is preserved, and keep in mind that I had Covid. I felt bad that I was coughing frequently so close to others.

These beds do not have a call button. I was in so much pain after waiting there for 90 minutes (nobody came to check on me the entire time) that I asked another patient’s nurse if she could ask a member of my care team if I could at least have some Tylenol. About 30 minutes later I was given the dose. That was around 3: 45 p.m, almost four hours after my arrival time.

About 30 mins later I was taken to another vertical bed room and my vitals were retaken. Since my temperature and BP were quite high, the rude young man who took them said he’d return in “a few minutes” to take them again. He didn’t come back for over an hour, shortly before I was discharged, took my temperature and very curtly said, “One hundred. Feel better”, and then promptly turned around and left the room. This guy is in the wrong field. Again, THERE IS NO WAY TO CALL A NURSE FROM THE “VERTICAL BED” AREA. This is totally unacceptable. I felt abandoned. I was in acute pain. My IV bag was completely empty for at least an hour yet I was still connected to it in such a way that it was difficult to move my arm.

I should note that the NP, who was my primary caregiver, was professional and pleasant. She’s moving to the Mayo Clinic in MN in a few months, and mentioned that St. J’s is understaffed. My experience confirms that. The nurse mentioned to another patient’s family that she had 30 patients that day. THIRTY! This is also completely unacceptable.

I’ve received a high quality of care at this facility in the past, but that’s been deteriorating for the last several years. My total time there was nearly six incredibly uncomfortable hours for the sake of a blood draw and Paxlovid prescription. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere and would urge others to do the same.

I have the belief that a company is only as strong as their weakest employee. The unethical character of one particular Bosnian female employee has shown me that it would be wise to seek another health facility. What employees do on their off time is still reflected upon the job they hold. When an employee has intentions on a married man and breaks family apart due to lies and hidden agendas, then I fully believe that the whole staff is similar in bad behavior. This is not Christian standards. This is not a place to be secure.

Warning. These people are completely incompetent. They refused to see my sister at the ER because of her developmental disability (down syndrome). She tested positive for COVID and is in one of the high risk categories and their so-called "physicians" had never heard about COVID treatment options (e.g. Monoclonal antibodies or antivirals like paxlovid). Stay away from this place. Will be reporting to the Arizona Department of Health Services Monday morning.
