Cathedral Rock Trailhead reviews
16Moderate hike on this trail. Wasn't bad at all.just make sure to wear comfortable shoes with good trekking and a hat for sun protection is a must. There was minimal shade. Prepare yourself for a climb up. If you have time, stop at the creek to cool off. It was a refreshing stop!
Wow, incredible hike. Lots of climbing up rocks, but beautiful views throughout the hike. At times it seems that it would be to hard for kids ect, but everyone manages. Just keep going, it is worth it.
Very small parking lot. There were two lots- both of which fits about 10-15 cars. The first lot I drove past was all full, and this was on a weekday summer afternoon. The second one, a minute or so down, did have 3 spots left. Keep in mind, you will have to walk to the pay booth at the first lot to buy your parking pass and put it on your car so you don't get ticketed.
From the trailhead, you can either go left on the Easy Breezy Trail, which quickly got rocky and the views were meh, or you can continue straight up the Cathedral Trail. Even from the bottom, you get treated to beautiful views of the Cathedral Rock.
It was hard for someone with fear of heights like me, but the climb and effort were worth it for those breath taking views early in the morning. Too many people were coming up after we were leaving about 9 am on a Saturday. I recommend getting there early or taking the shuttle to avoid not finding parking. Also, the pics are probably better in the afternoon sunset vs sunrise, as you may see on the pic, there are shadows that don't allow the precious colors of the rocks to show.
Such an amazing view, such an amazing place. Definitely windy at times but just breathtaking.
They have revamped the trail and it's so much easier to go up now. Paying the $5 parking fee seems to be paying off haha! Love what they've done with the place!
Parking fills up quickly and check if both lots are full, one lot closes during the week. The walk to the base of Cathedral rock is fairly easy, there are a few loop trails that could take a half day to finish. The hike to the top requires you to use yours hands to traverse up and down and can cause vertigo for those with fear of heights. Worth the summit if you can.
This hike is short but challenging. We took our 4 kids 15,15,14 and 8 and they made it up like Champs! It can get very hot, so go early if you can.
Found this hidden gem thanks to the Sedona Magazine! For those who aren’t local, you can find this and a few other hidden gems - view photo:)
The parking lot is closed Thursday - Sunday. Sedona provides a free shuttle that takes you from the shuttle meet up to the trail that leaves every 15min. The most popular part of the hike is the vertical climb to the base of Cathedral Rock. Recommended to wear shoes with good grip as the climb involves getting on all fours and can be slippery. Keep your hands free and wear long pants just in case. Not recommended for dogs as we saw a couple pups refuse to climb the precarious route. The trail is difficult but we saw kids and elderly make it up.
Such a pretty hike. We got there early so parking wasn’t a problem. Pretty short, easy hike despite the scrambling. Glad we decided to check this hike out while in town ̈
This was a very hard hike and I was not expecting it lol, it’s about 1.3 miles round trip but you are going UP. You will need to use all limbs to get up there. There are many areas where you can catch a break and your breath, there is a very specific area where it’s very hard midway but just keep going! It gets easier AND ITS WORTH the work! It’s beautiful. Once you reach the top and the trail ends you can continue around the bend if you go left (facing the trail) amazing views and there is a small cove/cave down there. Take plenty of water and sunscreen, we were there at 730am (May) and the sun was beaming!
Fantastic trail to climb. This is not an easy trail as you have to use your hands and scramble up large parts of it. If you’re afraid of heights, I wouldn’t try it either. The rocks are slippery, so bring good shoes with traction. Note that on Thursday through Sunday you have to park in a special lot and take a shuttle bus over there for free.
Really fun, short hike, which involves a little scrambling, and lovely views from the top. Parking at the trailhead can get busy (we were lucky), and you have to purchase a $5 day pass from one of the ticket machines.
It's a steep scramble up the rocks, kids had an okay time doing it but you need to be fit enough to climb some rocks and not afraid of heights. Worth it for the view!
A nice scenic drive from Flagstaff, beautiful views, trail was rained out but another exciting adventure. Good times and great memories.
I don't get what the hype is all about.
Overall nice hike but nothing mind blowing.
Lots of people, trouble finding parking place. They charge 5$ for parking apparently to maintain the park but I don't see where the money goes.
The rock is very slippery and a few metal steps could make the hike much more enjoyable.
