I’ve been to many shuls and Chabads and I’m so happy I found Chabad Of Mesa! They’re so warm and welcoming and from the first meal that I met this amazing family I felt like family. I enjoy the Rabbi’s services as he breaks it up with interesting stories that relate to the weekly parsha, and some great jokes! He definitely knows how to keep us focused as we daven. Gitty always welcomes me with a great smile and makes me feel like I’m truly meant to be there. I so appreciate Chabad of Mesa!

Rabbi Blotner reached out to me personally after I had a concern with a representative of the synagogue, and we had a really wonderful conversation. He listened, was kind, understanding, welcoming, and made me feel comfortable about visiting and being a part of their community. I really appreciated him offering his welcoming hand and kind heart, and helping me to find a community where I can continue to learn about my Jewish identity.

I moved from California to Arizona last year and Chabad Mesa quickly became my Jewish home here. Rabbi Blotner, Rebbetzin Gitty, and their whole family are so warm, welcoming, and they have supported me and my daughter in living more joyously Jewishly. Whether I come with questions, need help with some aspect of Jewish living, or just want to feel part of a loving Jewish community, they are there with open arms. Wherever you are in your journey with Judaism, the Blotners will be supportive allies in your study, expression of faith, and celebration. I’ve been blessed to enjoy many beautiful Shabbats with the Blotners. For every festival and holiday, a beautifully diverse, family-friendly (barbaric toddler friendly, in my case), and warm community of Jewish people gathers at Chabad Mesa. And Gitty (along with Tamara) put on amazing, educational Mommy & Me classes, as well as special activities and crafts for the kids at every celebration. I love Chabad, in general, but this shul and family are truly special. And Rabbi Blotner can’t resist making dad jokes so be prepared!

Note: Judaism is what’s called a “closed practice, ” which is very different from Christianity so, typically, synagogues serve Jewish people, their families, and people seeking to convert. It’s considered polite to ask permission to attend services or events if you are not one of the above. The community is very welcoming but knowing that about Jewish congregations is important if you’re interested in visiting and not Jewish or otherwise connected to Judaism.

I just came with my friends, we met the lovely rabbi and his family. We felt very welcomed by the rabbi and the congregation. And overall loved the experience. We highly recommend this as your synagogue and for a welcoming Jewish experience.

I have had a long-term relationship with Chabad of Mesa and Rabbi Blotner. I have never felt more comfortable or welcome than when I'm with the Chabad of Mesa group. Rabbi Blotner is a well-respected educator, and his classes in the community are well-attended. The rebbetzin, Gitty, is a very vital partner and has a very large list of activities for the women and children.

It had been a while since I last attended a Jewish congregation, so when I went last week, I was already a bit nervous. My religious journey has always been something that I prefer to do in private, but I felt that I really needed to go and have that solitary prayer and meditation in a place where I would be in good company. I had some short small-talk type conversations, introducing myself and trying to convey why I had decided to come.

Sadly, it didn't take very long before the rabbi leaned back in his seat and told me that they were not the right place for me. Immediately, I felt like I was being subtly told that I wasn't welcome. I wasn't kicked out or anything, but about right away, I called for a ride to take me home. Before my ride home arrived, there were a couple of moments when I felt as though those present were disgusted to even be near me. I felt awkward for the rest of the time that I was there, but that didn't hinder me from enjoying and appreciating the ambiance of oncoming rain and the view of the beautiful passing cumulus clouds.

Out of respect for this location, and for myself, I won't be returning. This was a painful experience, and I just hope that it doesn't hinder me from gathering the courage to find fellowship in the future.
