This used to be one of the best things about Sedona.now through political virtue signaling and Sedona residents being petty all the dispersed camping of the area is gone there's like five designated areas that are complete disasters with disgusting porta potty toilets and so many people packed in you're better off not even going to Sedona and venturing into other parts of Arizona at least until they start strangle holding those spots as well. I used to go to Sedona at least three times a month I don't go there at all anymore.it's just one more way they're trying to control and a limit people having any kind of freedom to camp and explore the lands that we pay for.

I’m an AZ local and the dispersed camping used to be amazing. Now it’s anything but dispersed. We are tent and van campers and all “3” designated camping areas are overrun with obnoxious RV’s with their generators. You can no longer enjoy the peace and quiet of nature or a camp fire. This is pathetic alternative and ruins it for locals who live by leave no trace principles.

Beautiful but most of the Camping areas are closed due to people not removing their trash 4/27/2023

This beautiful area has become over run with huge RVs. I understand closing the area so it can recover but there needs to be a limit to where RVs can camp. Having a lot of people crammed next to each other like sardines with no bathrooms is a terrible idea. There’s only so many places to go, before you’re digging up someone else’s old hole. Hopefully the NF can figure out how to fix the problem soon. 3 million visitors is a lot to handle for an area this size as evident by traffic and how the beauty is deteriorating.

It WAS a great area for camping until they closed it. Did they ever think that Sedona/Cottonwood depends on tourism and if you shut that off… what happens to the economy. Use some brains!

Used to be my favorite place to camp. Now it’s super restricted with new rules. All old camps bouldered off. 3 to 4 tiny camp lots only now. We should start a petition cause this is not fair…

There’s like 5 sprinter vans parked at every turn out where camping is allowed. I guess it used to be better but they changed the camping regulations.

Used to be amazing, now all dispersed sites are closed and camping limited to several large parking lots that are full of other campers.search for "West Sedona Designated Dispersed Camping & Day-use" on the forest service website but in short they took the most blunt solution short of just closing the entire area. Sad.

Camping is allowed only in specific areas. I was there on a weekend and most of these areas were packed. No much privacy. Camp fires not allowed

They have miles and miles of disperse camping (no bathrooms). If you don't find a spot in one site just keep moving to the next you'll eventually find one. The roads are really rocky though but a really peaceful place to camp. We stayed in a rooftop tent, it was a perfect place to see the stars at night.
