Great family run Mexican place, a local favorite. I read it was founded in 1922! Neat bar area.

It was an amazing experience for me to had dinner at El Charro tonight. This restaurant has heritage of providing best mexican food to people for 99 years. This is my first visit to Tuscan and was thinking where to go for dinner with my friend than decided to go there after searching on goggle and I am glad I made this decision, their food is amazing best mexican dish I ever had and the flan it's just blow my mind so as the tres leches, we were full but couldn't resist to taste the tres leches. The staffs are really well trained and their services are really good. I really recommend this restaurant and trust me you are not going to regret.

Historic home of the Chimchanga! Great Mexican food and chips and Salsa will leave your lips burning and asking the waiter for more chips and Salsa and an Ice Cold Beverage to put out the flames!

Excellent! Good quantity and above average quality. Good service. A little too scarce on chips and salsa. Meat is good quality meat. The waiting list shows others agree. All around a very good place to have a meal - fajitas my "go to" menu favorite here, the beef tender the shrimp plentiful and good size, not tough or chewy at all!

Every time we visit Tucson, we go to El Charro and are never disappointed. Service & food are outstanding! They also have a great outdoor dining area - a definite plus right now with the new covid variant.

Good food and okay service.

This was our first meal in Tucson and it’s definitely a winner. It has lots of nooks and crannies - both indoor and outdoor seating including numerous bar areas. They were definitely short staffed and moderately busy when we arrived because they had plenty of seating but we still had to wait. Our service was decent but not great.

The food was very good and there was so much variety it was hard to pick. Again - I will go with very good but not great.

Haven't been here in a long time. Will never go back based on my recent experienced. Went to order a drink from what I thought was the bar, and the rude person who stood behind it asked me "Do I look like I have drinks. " Really rude. Should have left then. We were seated after the obligatory 40 minute wait, even though I counted at least 3 tables for 4, that were empty the entire time. We were brought a small bowl of chips and one container of salsa. Chips were OK. Salsa was good. Ordered the steak chimi. I have had this before and it was pretty good. Mine came out and it was not very good. There were more onions in the chimi, but ironically, not much flavor. Ate less than half, took the rest home and did an autopsy. More onions than anything else and a paltry amount of chewy steak. The deep fried tortilla was soggy to start, not crisp like it should have been. No sour creme. No guac. Started with a cheese crisp that had very little, no flavor, gray colored cheese on it. Very disappointed in the whole thing. Also, prices were double from the last time. But they did have some KETO item on the menue. (Why?) As I said, I will not return. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Celebrated our friends birthday! Waiter was amazing, food was delicious and loved the set up of the restaurant.
I had Chile relleno and hubby mini chimis.

The food was good, can't say the same about our server. Not attentive as a server should be. He kept helping the other 2 tables incesively yet we had to ask another server for our chips, we couldn't even get refills on our drinks until he happen to pass by! I give the food a 4 and the server a 1

We are visiting Tucson so we decided on El Charro. They were *busy* and we waited for a little over an hour to be seated, like another said there were plenty of empty tables. They are understaffed but our server Ryan was diligent and my tea stayed full. Anyway, I had the chicken wings 'enchilada style' (red sauce and cheese). I can make a mean chicken tinga and it's not something you see often on menus so I wanted to try it. I was not disappointed. My plate had the typical rice and beans and salad. Except the rice had peas and carrots.before I spent time picking out the peas and carrots I sampled the rice. SO worth taking the time to pick out the vegetables. Fluffy and flavorful. The beans were not typical either they had great flavor and texture. But the tinga was ah-may-zing. Tender and a depth of flavor that I lack words for. To say it was delicious is an understatement, my only 'complaint' was the enchilada sauce. It tasted like chili powder in a liquid. It had a weird aftertaste and didn't help the rest of the dish. I will say there was cheese on top but not so much you could feel your arteries clogging.
The atmosphere is fascinating. The walls are filled with Mexican art folk and fine, mirrors, and southwestern touches all compliment the experience.

We reserved a table on a very busy Tuesday night with about 1.5 hours waiting time. The place looks really nice and inviting. The margaritas we drunk were tasteful and come out pretty fast. Unfortunately that was the end of our good experience. We waited over 1hr for the food. The food was dreadful. My chicken was way too overcook (almost impossible to swallow for how dry it was). Zero flavors and no salt in the side dishes. The rice was not fresh and tasteless. They forgot to bring the tortillas accompanying the plate.other entrees we had were uninspiring, flavorless or too garlicky. Overall very disappointing experience also considering that the meal was not cheap at all.

Delicious food, unique toppings. The beef is from grass-fed cattle and you can taste it's great quality. The service was quick and excellent. The options were great. Highly recommend the Prickly Pear Margarita.

Was excited to visit El Charro Cafe because we had seen some videos on Youtube saying it was the best place. So we drove from Phoenix to spend a day in Tucson and eat here. Sadly, we came away pretty disappointed.
It took about 30 minutes to be seated, expected that since it was a popular place. However, we sat at our table for a good 12 minutes before we got waited on. Employees walked past us dozens of times without ever asking if we had been waited on yet.
I knew things were going to be slow because some tables around us were stopping any staff that walked by to get helped with paying their bill. We were literally about to get up and leave when the waiter showed up. Ordered sodas and they were basically water. We were then given a small bowl of tortilla chips, which is unusual for a Mexican restaurant. The waiter showed up shortly after and took our order. The entire time we ate our dinner, we were never asked if we need anything, if we needed more drinks or chips and salsa, nothing. Yes, we could have stopped a staff member, but they all seemed in such a hurry, so figured the place was short staffed.
I have to say though the food was really good and flavorful! We will definitely give it one more try the next time we are in town.

Excellent Margaritas! Excellent food. We waited about 30 or 40 minutes for a table because we didn't make a reservation, but were able to sit in the bar while we waited.
