Gordon Hirabayashi Campground reviews
19I wish I could have seen this before they tore all the prison breaks down in the seventies they're cutting down all the trees now soon they'll be little shade left
I like this place can't wait to go and try it out camping they do have the guy at the front the campground host next time I visit there I'm going to get around to talk to him see what the dates are to open and close but right now it's a cool little eight spots kind of expensive though kind of pricey to stay the night
Interesting if you are interested in WWII Japanese internment camps. Not a hiker so can not give input or evaluation on that
Quiet and small camp ground with a informational memorial about Camp Honor.
There is a bathroom available but no garbage or waste disposal.
Nice clean and easy to follow trail. Lack of trees, damn fire, does make it warm in the sun. Great for a light out and back hike, even with kids.
I was drawn to this location during today's mountain excursion. This is an ugly secret in Tucsons history. Here stood a WW2 Internment camp. The prisoners were forced to build the mountain highway as well as other structures in neighboring towns. I could feel the pain at the site.
This place is great. If you go over a hill at the back of the campgrounds, you're able to strip down and go nude hiking
Always love it there, the history is so sad, for what the had done to the Japanese men, living in the United States.
It is a beautiful area
This area is my favorite in the Tucson area. The hike down to Sycamore Reservoir is my favorite. It's peaceful and perhaps has more birds than other areas. We lost cell phone coverage and know that you'll be climbing back out of the basin unless you go all the way down into Sabino Canyon, so prepare for being in a remote area and reserve your energy, if you are older.
I went with a friend who was unfamiliar with the history of the Japanese internment there. No steep walking but a couple dozen stone stairs if you want to see it closer. Worth it.
This is the site of a WWII internment camp. Very interesting to read about what happened there. They also have hiking trails.
We love to come and adventure around the area as often as possible, really neat environment to explore!
This place stated it was open starting in October on the main page on the website. We went to go camping over a mid October weekend to find the gate closed and no camping. Had to go up further to find a less private area which didn't work out as well. After getting home we looked up the site again and after searching and searching found one little link that led to a page that said "open November 1st" all alone on that page. It's not the campground's fault but if the park service is going to say it opens in October, it should be open in October. However, I've stayed at this campground before, it's got some decent sites, with flat ground and everything needed for regular or quick planned camping.
Very quiet and small campground but open year round! Super easy access to AZT & mountain bike trails.
Awesome site for nude camping and hiking. $20.00 pp or $50.00 for group of 6+. But still few of us were nude and camped out. Tons of trails au naturel.do it nude!
It's not as clean as other campgrounds like Sycamore. The weekends are for cross country biking. No running water.
Georgous. Its open and running however i left due to high winds i noticed that people wrte burning wood fires i however wad apprehensive due to the recent fires.
Sad history but a nice little hike. Connects to the big trail cant wait to try it since they worked on it.
