Gunsight Wash BLM area reviews
12Free BLM 14-day camping about 2 miles south of WHY heading down to Organ Pipe. If coming from Why, look for mp 55 and is next right past wash, cattleguard entrance is over to the right by the wash. Sites are dispersed on a flat sandy creosote bush plain. Some hwy noise but moving farther out helps to reduce somewhat. Coyotes seem common so watch your pets. Why Store is only 2 miles and has gas, Ice etc. Filtered water kiosk at the community center bldg on south side wall. Camping area has no water, no toilets, no dumpsters. Lots of coyotes at night.
Nice, quiet and lots of space. Fee free area, that means: no vault toilets, no garbage collection. Garbage is asked to be dumped in nearby Ajo. Maximum stay 14 days.
This place is really great, lots of room and level sites. Be sure to explore spots further away from the road, there is more vegetation and quiet further back.
Quiet dry camping area close to Organ Pipe abs Ajo. Clean and no obvious trash. Thanks nomads, for leaving no trace:)
BLM a little off the main highway. Very relaxing place once the border closes and the vehicle traffic dies down.
Only stayed one night on my way to Oregon pipe national cactus monument and Mexico. Was perfect for me.
One of my favourite boondocking spots! My 3rd time here and it never disappoints! Lots of room and people keep to themselves and are respectful!
Staying full limit. Nice separated camp sites which makes it quiet and away from other campers who use generators. No amenities available.
Beautiful, quite, free camping. Plenty of room to spread out. Close to the border to make an early entrance, saving a day of fees.
Our favorite place. Huge area, can fit any size of RV. Close to organ pipes national monument. Close to loockville border gate to Mexico. Close to Ajo AZ. Many places to dump and refresh your RV.
A great space to spend a few nights out in the desert, especially if you’re visiting Organ Pipe.
We had issues finding the entrance. Once you turn off the main road onto a gravel rest stop like area you will see piles of gravel and a fence directly in front of you. Follow the fence all the way to the right where you will find a cattle guard to cross onto BLM land.
No 4x4 or high clearance necessary. It may look busy but everyone has the ability to spread out pretty far. Just keep driving until you find a spot you like.
LOTS of choice, juicy spots to park and relax. I forgot how much I love watching Southwest storms move through areas. The drizzle of rain is refreshing after dealing with weeks of dirt and blowing dust. Go rockhounding. Amongst the usual quartzes and agates, I found a small Fire Agate.
