Came in to see a specific dog and was told you need an appointment and IMMEDIATELY lectured on how it stresses out the dog to get their hopes up. It says on the website to come in and staff will arrange a meet and greet, but. I guess not?

I was hoping to meet a dog and have a chance to ask the handlers about her temperment and gauge her personality before I brought my dogs for a meet and greet to confirm they could all get along, but instead I got to have a super weird interaction with the rude staff.

Went to view a kitten in petsmart from high country humane and got bombarded by the workers and reprimanded when showing interest in the kitten because we 'needed' to adopt two.we have a cat at home and wanted him to have a buddy. Apparently that is not allowed at this so called animal recue

I can't possibly praise High Country Humane enough. The people there have always been amazing-and now they are rescuing even more animals than ever! I have adopted there twice, and I have also fostered three puppies. The staff has always been organized, helpful, and caring. I urge everyone to donate and volunteer.

Thank you so much, High Country Humane, for my wonderful puppy, Aspen Ponderosa. She's an absolute joy, thanks to your tremendous efforts to rescue her and find her a loving foster home. Thank you so very much for all that you do to rescue animals!

Horrible place! I rescued a stray and brought him in and they said they would take good care of him and find him a home then a week later the lady called and told me she was going to take him back to the street and let him free! Then i said “no i’ll take him and find him a home since you can’t” and proceeded to be rude and have a disgusting attitude.another week goes by and they let me pick him up and he is terrified he was with me for 2 months prior never seen him this scared and they shoved him at me.and also gave me nasty customer service.will never support or respect this business

I can't say anything negative about them as I haven't fostered or adopted from them, only an FYI, if you think you can go play or see the cats (and dogs maybe) they won't let you as they care about the cats not getting stressed and that I respect a lot. They are more than happy to let you volunteer with them after filling up an application and getting a cat course. They will let you see the cats ONLY if you are ready to adopt.

EDIT: I posted a good review when I adopted a dog. Two weeks later I contacted them about problems I was having (with the encouragement of my vet) and it was a whole different story.
I wanted to do what was in the best interest of the dog by offering to foster him instead of putting him back in the kennels. The front desk girl was uncooperative and the office manager was abrupt and rude when she called me. "Im very busy" is no excuse for interrupting me while offering that to say just "bring him back. " I thought they would want to know more about the dog and the issues, and to work with me in fostering him. But no, hes just another assigned number and I was taking up her precious time. So dont delude yourself if you think theyll be be as happy to hear from you if there are problems after you adopt. Unfortunately its pretty common.

Original review*** Staff was very professional and well trained staff. They were very generous in providing me with what I needed for my new pup. Its definitely an asset to the community, and of course the animals.

While I respect what they do here I have never met a more rude and condescending staff at a shelter.

I have done volunteer work at similar places and totally understand how stressfull and emotionally taxing vetrinary/shelter work can be but if your entire crew is incapable of doing that work without being a-holes to the people who ultimately pay for you to keep the lights on maybe they shouldn't be doing it at all.

Offered us a chance to foster a pup so we could see if it was a right fit for our family to have a dog and led us to believe we could adopt her. Unfortunately in a span of 5.5 days she became part of the family and we were all very attached. We specified we were wanting to adopt her and not just be her foster family. This was known. Then someone from the shelter just came and picked her up out of our lives forever. Just like that. Happiness is fleeting.the interaction with them was very shady. Won't be back here again. We love you lil pup.

This organization currently receives tax dollars for animal control services, yet employs arbitrary politically motivated discriminatory practices, treating anyone associated with another rescue like some sort of enemy. Additionally, they censor their facebook page removing even minor complaints and blocking tax payers instead of addressing issues and being responsible and accountable.

I could list 20 ways this has detrimental repercussions for the animals in their care, but it shouldn't take a genius to see this is not what is best for the animals. This organization needs to be held responsible for their actions and accountable to tax payers whose money supports them. Declining phone calls, accusing complainers of "bullying" and deleting complaints is not responsible.

Doing well for the animals REQUIRES working with the community around you, not just doing as you please, using and wasting time of supporters and then acting like you don't have to be responsible for your actions.

Board of Directors, City, County, can anyone hear this?

Wonderful place for pets. I adopted two gorgeous dogs from here. They were groomed, spayed, and very healthy. Great additions and I am very happy with the experience. I highly recommend

The shelter seemed clean but the staff wouldn’t let me look at the dogs in person because I told them that I wasn’t sure if I’d be adopting today. I was told that it took up too much of the staffs time to let me look at the adoptable dogs. They told me to look at the pictures of dogs on the wall instead. This “policy” is ridiculous for somewhere who is trying to adopt out their animals.

This place is amazing. Vets were awesome and staff was very professional. So gentle with our cats. Went above and beyond to help our cat. Definitely donating.

Really sad to have to be so upset by an animal rescue, but here it is. And their inability to talk to me about my concerns leaves me few places to try to hold them accountable.

The main issue is they have poor communication, treat people like their time and volunteer labor has no value and make bad decisions that have adverse effects on the animals in their care.

I'm sure it's hard to run a shelter, but there's no excuse for what I experienced. What I experienced wasn't the result of a little mistake or miscommunication, but months of repeated instances of failure to communicate, disregard for time, labor and dismissive arbitrary treatment.

I contacted them last fall to volunteer with their medical team, they had me come in and do training and laundry shifts. I tried to clarify many times what I wanted and if it was possible so I wouldn't be wasting my time. I talked with the vet, she told me she was worried the director would not want me to volunteer there since I volunteered at another shelter and apparently they have a social-political rivalry. Her words were "conflict of interest. "!: 0. But the vet told me to come in in a week and a half from that point to start (this was 2 months in to the process). And the night before I was supposed to be there all day (I took the day off work), the director sent me a rude and non-explanatory email telling me not to come in. She never answered any of my calls and took time answering emails with contradictory stories about why she didn't want me to come in. She never once even slightly apologized for the mix-up. Finally she said they were rearranging their program and she'd contact me when they needed me. I never heard back, it was 6 months ago.

Since then, I've seen countless solicitations from them for help, and it always bothers me. Recently I saw a dog I wanted to help and felt frustrated because they were treating it through the medical team and I knew how they were likely to respond if I contacted them. So I made a comment on their facebook page to say I wanted to help but it was a shame their behavior had these consequences on their animals. Soon, they deleted the comment and blocked me from their page. Even though just a few days ago, I provided information on a dog I knew about that they posted they had no history on and they supposedly appreciated it.

Literally the only thing I've ever done that was not contributing to their cause was make one single complaint about their behavior, while on the other hand, they lied to me, and either negligently or purposefully misinformed me about their situation, resulting in theft of my time and labor.

Another girl who complained about communications issues the same day apparently experienced similar experiences and wrote me about it.and I feel it highly suspect, unprofessional and inappropriate that an institution that gets tax dollars can just erase complaints and block people without ever reaching out to resolve issues. The city and county need to know about my problem and other problems people have told me about, I think mostly relating to the director, Ms. Olsen. My tax dollars support their organization and I'm mad.

I really hate people who are quick to criticize those who are trying to help, but more than that, I hate people who hold power and make bad decisions and people who think they don't have to be accountable. All High Country ever had to do was talk to me or to each other enough to prevent this, but they'd rather ignore it and hope I go away.so it's time the community ought to know about it.

Also, I've now read down through these comments and see countless instances of the shelter responding in an incredibly defensive way, dismissing the experiences, and resorting to calling their complaint "bullying" or "harassment" when all else fails. This is incredibly telling about the organization. Here's a suggested more professional and productive response, High Country: "We hear your complaint and see you are upset, we'd like to resolve the issue, please contact us at. "

My friend brought them a friendly stray cat that had been hanging around their house for weeks and didn’t belong to any neighbors. This shelter fixed it then dumped it where it was found instead of finding it a home. Don’t take stray cats here, it is not an ethical shelter and they don’t care about cats.

Wonderful place got my cat now 1 from here but don't tell others to surrender animals at petco, they only accept reptiles and fish depending on circumstances!

You kind of have to impress the foster parents.it’s more about what they want for the pet.
The ‘screening’ process is daunting. By the end of the 10min phone conversation the foster parent told me another person was already interested and not to get my hopes up. Whether that’s true or not I don’t know, but I think a better way of going about it is just being upfront about who you want to adopt to from the getgo and telling them flat out if it’s not a match. Instead I waited by the phone 2hrs because I hadn’t realized yet that they did not want me.
