Laurie Chen, MD reviews
8Wonderful experience, Up front and direct, great personality, knowledgeable! I would not want any other doctor treating me
I have been seen Dr. Chen for a few years now. She is very knowledgeable, kind and considerate. I have a chronic condition and she made a good plan to treat it. In addition to the standard treatment, she has also been looking into other possible sources and connect me to different specialists. Her office staff generally is very respectful and kind as well. I highly recommend Dr. Chen.
DR. Chen is everything you look for in an oncologist. She has a strong attention to detail and shares it with her patients. I am confident my care and concerns are addressed. I would rate her alone as an absolute 5 star oncologist. The support staff and facilities however is a disappointing 2 stars. You will have to spend a lot of your time following up when the staff support does not follow through. Phone calls do not get returned so you will have to be diligent and keep calling to get results. The scheduling process is dismal for the patient. Currently waiting for over two weeks for the scheduler to contact me with appts for a port flush. The chemo room is over crowded and depressing by today's standards; patient chairs are so close together that you can touch the patient on either side of you. There is no privacy when you are receiving chemo where it should be calming and relaxing; instead it can be chaotic at times when it is simply over crowded. The nursing staff are among the best but on over crowded days are not served well by their patient load. The exam rooms are right out of the 1970's
I had a similar experience as one of the other reviewers here. I am a nurse practitioner (in another state) and my aunt was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. She went to see Dr. Chen who lead her to believe with chemo that she could see "remission" and expected numerous years of good quality of life. When I spoke with my aunt it seemed unrealistic with my even limited knowledge of her cancer. I asked her to please seek a second opinion prior to starting treatment. She went to a different oncologist in the Banner system who gave her facts and figures and told her that even under the best circumstances she should expect no more than 6 months to live and suggested hospice or palliative chemo for her symptoms and made it clear it would not expect to make her live longer. While that was devastating to hear, I would hate for her to be lied to and lead down a path of false hope.
They were very prompt in calling me in for my appointment. Dr. Chen listened to our questions and concerns and she responded very appropriately. Overall, a great experience
Dr. Chen always spends enough time listening to me and any concerns I have. On my last office visit, she ordered a CT Scan of my abdomen because of my concerns. Once the results were known of my CT Scan, she personally called me. The results were normal so I assumed her medical assistant would call me. I was impressed that she called herself.
Dropped patient without reason. Been busy with COVID, had to downscale a lot in my life. Now this. Didn't bother to contact to see what's going on whatsoever.
No commutation with patent, worst doctor i have ever been to. Made an appointment with someone that had quite, and never bothered to notify me and wasted my time to go there.
