Though I moved to southern Arizona 10 years ago, from the early 1970's to 1999 I had my hair cut at Metro. Sophie, the owner, is not only a brilliant hair stylist for men, she is a highly-regarded by women as well. Her business has survived through thick and thin because it's a high-quality local business. Only a few can say that.

I have another good friend who has been a customer of hers for as long as I have and he has even traveled from Alaska to get his hair cut by Sophie. He beat me. I have only traveled from California for a hair cut when I lived there for a year. That's how much we like Metro.

Here I am in March of 2021 and I'm back. My oldest daughter just moved from the Phoenix area to Prescott so I came up for a visit from near Tucson where I live. In addition I drove over Mingus Mountain to Jerome, then Cottonwood, and then over to Sedona to visit my younger daughter. As I drove through Cottonwood and past Metro, I called on a hunch that Sophie, the owner, might still cut hair and my guess was rewarded. Got my hair cut a few days later by a professional stylist, old-time friend, and all-around great person. She not only still has the touch, she is a master of her art.

Ironically my Alaskan friend, who I met in 1973 when I landed in the Verde Valley, is also in town. I forgot to ask Sophie if he had been in for a trim so I'm dialing now. If you knew the half of it you'd understand that it's a movie script waiting to happen. 50-year friends, with absences of even 20 years, do make the heart grow fonder.

I've been seeing Sophie for my haircuts for 18 years. So it's about time I left her the 5 star review she richly deserves.

Do not go here. Sophie had done a great dye job for me, so I went back. The second time, she dyed my light brown hair, black. No highlights, the back of my hair was all black and the stylist that fixed it said she didn't even get all the roots. It took almost 4 hours to fix it. On top of that Sophie asked me if I wanted her to SHAPE my long hair. I said sure. She chopped it all off, except for 2 stands in the back. I had a 1960 shagg. The stylist that fixed it had to cut off all the hair that took me 3 years to grow, because Metro started a layer line too high and that was my only option. I now have very short hair and it cost me $300 to fix it.

A neighbor recommended Becky at Metro Hair after we moved to the area from out of state. Couldn't be happier with her work. Looking forward to a long term relationship like I had with my hairdresser before moving.
