Your one stop for everything trains! The owner was very courteous and helpful and informative about recommending which scale of train would be best for the limited area that we have. Our son wants H and I want N scale, lol. Once we decide on what scale we’re going to build, we’ll definitely be a regular customer here! Oh, they were nice enough to run the N-Scale set for our son! This is a place where an adult can be a kid!

I went to Obie’s Trains today for the first time, and I was quickly overwhelmed with the amount of locomotives and cars stacked to the roof. The owner is always there and really seems to enjoy his job, as he was extremely kind and understanding. It had been my birthday recently, and the owner let me pick out any car I wanted for free. So, I bought a Bachmann 4-4-0 and an NCE Powercab, and the owner explained how everything on the DCC system worked. Truly the best model shop in the valley.

This is a local business that is jam packed with hobby train items, ran by the owner himself, he has just about every model of train on the small scales you can think of, every wall has trains and train accessories.

There is a massive selection of terrain options here, paints, miniature cars and items that you would put on your train table (s). They have some sets that you can run, I asked the owner if I could see one of the sets run in the middle of the store and he turned it on for me and we spent about 30-45 minutes talking about his store/his life/life in general/pursuit of happiness/things like that, it was a wonderful experience.

With all of that being said, I am sure the prices are a little higher here than you could get elsewhere, although I am not sure the selection is as large as here. This place has products from the floor to the ceiling, it is packed and displayed well. You'd be supporting a local small business owner if you came here. And like the owner has said in previous reviews, call ahead, it sounds like he's a one-man operation right now and life can be tough on a person so just call ahead and make sure- if you have to drive from far away.

Fred is very knowledgable about hobby trains, has a tremendous selection, and also is an amazing human being. He went out of his way to spend time with my young family and share his knowledge and kindness with them. I highly recommend Obies

Best inventory in Arizona and probably the entire southwest. Grandkids love to go to buy Grandpa’s birthday presents.

This is the best train store I've found in the valley and is worth the drive if you are a long distance away. (I'd call to be sure he will be open when you get there tho.) I can not believe how much inventory he carries and he can special order things that he may not have. Obie is a very friendly owner that knows how to leave you alone to browse but is totally available to answer questions and shoot the breeze if he doesn't have customers waiting. Great place. Super helpful owner.
