One has to understand that the services are much broader than the art studios, for starters. And the art program is second to none. There is nothing else comparable, even if another thing were self pay. Things I’m frustrated about include the new web design after the name change from PSA. Everyone still calls it PSA anyway, but regardless the new website literally provides no helpful information because it is far too vague. And this is coming from someone enrolled in a program. As far as the art studios go, each has its own vibe, as one would expect.

Don’t kid yourself, it’s not just art and access to many materials and learning opportunities. Twice a day the staff hands out a worksheet, usually taken from a quite dated workbook, and the participants have to fill it out or go over with staff. The problem with this is that so many times the topic is not relevant to what the person is experiencing right then (though staff is pretty good with adapting) or, what’s far worse, is that the information is dated. It is NOT evidence based because the workbook is so old that the most current research in mental health treatment is not considered.

So participants are often inundated with treatment protocol that can actually be harmful — and no one in the staff feels empowered enough to address it with the higher ups. Finally, the topics are repeated way too often, in literally the exact same worksheets. All told though, I’ve gained a lot from the program and I hope to continue doing so. I just wish this one aspect of the lack of evidence based treatment would change even just a little. Do remember, of course, it’s not a compleeeeeeeeete lack, but for me, enough of one.

I love it what a fantastic place to be as you learn a new art. Or to develop your art. You can't lose being here!

The Art program saved my life. When I started, the whole reason I was alive had passed away. As a result, I lost my way. I was shattered and scattered by my loss. I became disabled with Mental Health Issues. I was determined to die of a broken heart or take my life. Because I couldn't cope. But with the Art Program, I was able to work through some very deep dark areas in my life. My main Mediums were Mosiacs and Ceramics. I later began using the Integrative Holistic Therapies at the North Phoenix studio, such as Sound Therapy. That allowed me to begin to heal the reaction I had towards noise, music and media. I then began Trauma Release Exercises (TRE) that helped me trust that being in my body was safe and necessary. Grief was an Out of Body Experience for me due to the Complicated PTSD I endure as a Survivor.

The staff are Incredible! Christina, site Administrator, has made an Absolutely Huge Difference to the Downtown Phoenix studio. Master Artist Antonio has a tremendous amount of experience and is Naturally a Master Artist in thie field. Glyness is the therapist for TRE and Sound Therapy. She is very Professional, Kind, Compassionate and Amazing at her Skills. She is full of Class and Beautiful in every way inside and out.

Sometimes there's a waiting list. Be patient. Know in time your opportunity will arise. Take it.show up.apply your circumstance and you will be Amazed at what you can survive and heal from.

I still have a very very long journey ahead of me as its only been 5 yrs. But I'm willing to live on and try to be as happy and healthy as possible.
