Dr. Hindenlang is great, she tells it like it is, no sugar-coating on what you need to do to get healthy.

It is my belief that Dr. Hindenlang is a danger to the community. I have a chronic illness, and as such, have interacted with many medical professionals over the years. I have never experienced anything close to how callous, unkind, and genuinely spiteful and mean Dr. Hindenlang's behavior was. From the reviews I have seen around the internet, I believe she has extreme personal bias, and allows it to affect her care. Citing my own experience, and those of others based on reviews, it would seem that Dr. Hindenlang has a preference for well off, white collar professionals, and clearly can provide good health care for them, as there are also many positive reviews around. However, if you do not fall into that box, I would recommend staying away. I came to Dr. Hindenlang after a hospitalization, looking for a referral to an immune specialist. I truly believe that my appearance (Which clearly codes me in a lower socioeconomic class) had a heavy bearing on the way I was treated. At the time that I saw her, I was a 22 year old woman, and because of said hospitalization, had left my long term job in management and dropped out of college two weeks before. In our 15 minute visit, which I waited nearly 2 hours to receive, she questioned "What I did with my time" while literally scoffing at me and rolling her eyes, stated no less than five times that she "would not prescribe me painkillers" (Which I had never requested, they don't even work for my illness, it was INCREDIBLY clear that she had decided I was drug seeking, despite no history of drug use or addiction, because of the way that I look.) and picked apart my family history, asking questions about my father's mental illnesses and challenging the validity of all previous diagnosis (which had absolutely NO bearing or relevance to our visit, which again, was only to receive a referral to a specialist, which she ultimately did not even grant.) During this visit, she also told me that my disease did not exist (Mind you, at this point I had upwards of 20+ medical professionals who had confirmed and upheld this diagnosis from different stints in urgent care, the ER, and primary visits.) got the name of the disease wrong, stating she had "Never heard of it. " (Lyme Disease for those wondering) And when I corrected her on the name of the illness (Which she was non-stop calling "Lymes") claimed she had "never heard of that, either. " A quote from this session that has stuck with me was "Unless something has changed in the 30 years that I have been out of medical school, this isn't accurate. " Immune science is fast developing, the idea of discarding 30 years of medical science is genuinely baffling to me. When she finally examined me, after ten minutes of implying I was a drug-seeking lowlife, essentially, she claimed that the arthritis that had developed in my hand was "normal, with deformities consistent with age. " An interesting take, as none of the other 22 year old I knew had deformities in their hands from arthritis. She then left the room, and just never returned. She had not signaled to me that the session was over, did not follow up in any way, and left me crying on her table. When her nurse returned, with a referral to an osteoarthritis specialist instead, she seemed totally unsurprised to see me crying, and I got the impression that this was commonplace for patients that Dr. Hindenlang decides are unworthy of her time or care. Best of all, on my discharge paperwork, Dr. Hindenlang upheld each diagnosis I had come in with, including Lyme Disease, because she just couldn't miss out on billing my insurance for that sweet, sweet diagnosis charge! If you have any other avenues of care, I highly recommend pursuing them before resorting to Dr. Hindenlang for any type of care. While it seems clear that she is capable of being a good physician as there are multiple positive reviews, is it really worth reaching into such a mixed bag regarding a matter as significant as your health and well-being?
