My father was admitted there for rehabilitation.while there my father received excellent care and the drs. Were around to explain everything to our family.if there is a problem the staff will call you at home to tell you what occured.its an older building with small rooms but the care was first rate. I highly recommend them.

Horrible experience. The place was moldy and falling apart but we didn’t see those areas until my dad was admitted in. We were told on the tour they had Spanish speaking staff but no one knew Spanish that worked with my dad. The staff were hostile and If I tried to ask anything or talk to anyone they were rude. My dad was jumpy with certain staff and would become protective. He was left soiled in his bed all the time and anytime I came to visit he looked neglected. I found hun in the floor a few times in his feces. I would come in to help clean him up. The staff with short almost bald blonde hair was always saying she’s always here with an attitude but then would say she’d check if I’m on the list if I asked anything when she knew I was it was just an excuse to walk away from me then I’d never see her again till leaving she was always on her phone sitting down by the desk area. She was only nice and it was so fake only because the doctor was in the room her tone changed. She once came in asking what he was saying to me because he said that she hit him and mistreating him and she approached us about it. She said he was confused and became defensive. The staff would be talking ill about former and current patients including my dad who was vulnerable at the time. The case worker Samantha had no idea what she was doing she scheduled my family for a meeting and forgot she would say she ordered transport and items from preferred but she didn’t. I’d always find her eating and chatting. The doctor told us he wanted to keep him there for a few more days due to an infection but she kept trying to convince us to discharge him. His insurance covered for 100 days but she wanted us to pay $250 a day after 2 weeks. The doctor said he even spoke to her about this concern. He was discharged early and ended back in the hospital because of that infection. He was sent to a different rehabilitation where the staff were actually professional and compassionate and the case worker was legit. The difference of care was huge. The entire experience at Sabino was a nightmare.

A relative had a stay with Sabino Canyon and I would encourage anyone looking for a rehab facility to consider them as an excellent mid-town choice. Yes, the building is old and the rooms are not spacious. But what's important is that there's staff around at all times, ready to assist and work with residents. We must have interacted with more than a dozen people and everyone had a great attitude and was genuinely interested in making sure that our relative had a good stay and was working towards getting back home soon. Our experience was that staff were available when needed, came promptly when called, and-more importantly-were proactive in working with us to keep us informed and also to make sure that we had what we needed to support our relative in their rehab, medical, and day-to-day progress.
We never saw cases where staff were sitting around staring at their phones or just chatting among themselves and ignoring the residents. People were constantly moving around and were helpful and genuinely interested. We had a longer and more informative discussion with the physical therapist at Sabino Canyon about our relative's needs than we had with her surgeon at TMC!
Sabino Canyon may not be for everyone with every set of needs, but for rehab from hip/knee injury, we thought that they were an excellent choice.

They transfered my father to this place. They had rain damage in his room and restroom. Dirty place, shared rooms with people next to him with television to loud. They don't answer the phone many times. If you dislike a family member, this is the place to send them. Called to see if they started his physical therapy waiting on phone 20 minutes for a nurse. Still on hold. Understaffed, building not maintained. They say 5 star on the recorded phone hold system. I would rate this place a half star. Online the pictures look beautiful, don't let the photos fool you. When I got there it was hideous. Please drive to this place and see for yourself, before putting any family member or friend here. The VA Hospital is a 5 star place compared to this building that needs a fully remodel.

Had a very close friend stay at Sabino during his recovery from a traumatic accident. Staff were very good to him and returned home a new man. From the administrator (Jaron), to Dir.of Nursing (Quinny), and CNA (Tammy), Nurses (June), (Karla), (Tiffany) and all the staff very kind and compassionate. Thank you.

I have a family member is in this place and has been treated horribly. Steer clear of this facility at all costs.

A lengthy stay has shown me that nurses and helpers need flowers and kudos. First a RN named Tiffany is skilled and caring above all. She tried to give comfort and care. Several Cnas are also caring and helpful, namely, Yvonne, Guam, and Susan. There are others also who name I can't remember but these rise to the top.
I realize under starring and other probs contribute to attitude but these staff rise above.

The people in their care are not treated well. A person can hit their call button and it takes over 30 minutes before anyone comes. I understand that medication cannot be given without a doctor’s orders. But they made my mom go through so many hoops just to tell her in the end, she couldn’t be given anything.

Please do not send a family member or loved one to this facility. My father-in-law was sent here after a stay at TMC hospital. We arrived on a Monday and our family called 911, while in the facility the following Sunday after my father-in-law had a rapid decline over that day. His health declined the entire week he was there, retaining fluid due to CHF. It took several days for the primary doctor here to increase his heart failure medication and even when he did it was not with the diuretic that he normally takes. He had taken on so much fluid and at every turn we asked for assistance to get the fluid off his body. Additionally,  my sister-in-law had to pull the main doctor into the room multiple times and he essentially told her that our loved one had a DNR and we should let nature take its course.  After he was rushed to the hospital, my father-in-law was admitted immediately into the ICU at TMC due to cardiogenic shock and we opted several days later to start comfort care and he passed away.  The nurses at the facility are wonderful but are overworked and have far too many patients. The doctor that we dealt with was horrible, terrible, and had zero compassion. The facility is dated, the food is not good, and it is the most depressing place I have ever seen. I have no idea how this place is a five-star rating by Medicare. STAY AWAY.

My mom fell three times in 12 hours of her initial stay. I requested that a commode be placed at bedside and it never was, triggering her falls. She would press the call light, no one would come. She was found on the bathroom floor, after hitting her head. She was sent right back to the emergency room. She was supposed to be on 15 minute checks. That clearly was not happening. Very sad because Sabino was the best of the worst that her insurance would cover. The American health care system is shot.

I enjoyed my stay. The food was very good. The therapy sessions was very helpful for my legs. My time there was like a family.

They took really good care of my mother after her hospitalization stay from a fall. She wasn't strong enough to go home so the doctor had her come to Sabino for therapy rehabilitation. Everyone did a great job and were all very kind.

The administrative staff, social worker and nurse are very poor at communicating and, it seems, time management. The lack of assistance for a process they require is astoundingly poor…even when paying out of pocket to be there. While the hands on staff is caring and helpful, be very careful about choosing this facility as you can’t have one without the other.
