SMIL Medical Imaging - Mercy Medical Commons, Gilbert AZ

After a major surgery my wife was unable to walk without pain for reasons unknown. She needed an MRI to diagnose the problem. We called SMIL to setup an appointment and were told that it would be 5 days for insurance approval. If we wanted something sooner we could pay the cash price. We asked if we could bring in pre authorization from the insurance company and if that would be accepted in lieu of the cash payment. The answer was yes so we setup the appointment for the next day. We called the insurance company and were assured that the MRI is covered in full because we had already met our annual out of pocket maximum for the year. We were given an authorization letter from the insurance company to bring with us.

When we arrived at SMIL we were told that the only way we would be seen that day was if we paid the cash price upfront. They refused to look at the authorization letter and refused to call the insurance company. The insurance company had even instructed me to have SMIL call, but they refused. When I questioned the authorization process I was told “That’s not the way it works”. When I asked why a simple 30 second phone call to the insurance company could not be made I was told “We have lots of patients and authorization takes time”. Really?

So there we were held hostage. Either I pay upfront for something that is clearly covered and pre authorized by insurance or my wife doesn’t get the timely care she needs. Great job SMIL! Your customers are clearly just numbers.

The only silver lining in this whole thing is the fact that I’m writing this review from their own free WiFi while I’m waiting for my wife’s MRI to finish up. I’m sure SMIL will find a way to charge me for the bandwidth before we leave.

I am very pleased with this place. I been going here for the last several years. I won't go anywhere else. Try it and you will agree.

This location is second to NONE! Every single person was more than helpful, considerate, and went out of their way to accommodate me. There is no other office I would choose to go to. I appreciate everyone and all of their grace.

Obtaining my appointment was simple, with the online resource. Check- in was smooth and very private. The mammogram tech was very friendly and gentle. It is a plus to get the report of the results right away. It makes getting a mammogram easier.

I'm so glad that I found SMIL so that I never have to deal with Simon Med ever again. They are so much better in every aspect. Employees are friendly and professional, I never have a billing or scheduling issue, and they make you feel like they actually care. SMI was very Professional and got me in and out in no time. Very friendly staff. I would not go anywhere else for these services except here. In fact get to have an MRI on my knee and going straight back to them. Lesson learned the very hard way.
