Sonoran Desert National Monument reviews
7 Always different, always very special. I encourage all visitors to set aside any preconceptions, allow yourself to be in the moment, get out of your vehicle for a few minutes now look at the details, not just the large landscapes that are so pictures, be sure to look at the ground it's more than just some gravel in what some may think are just weeds. As you look about you may be fortunate to see pieces of decaying cacti, different types of birds such as woodpeckers, Desert Wren, various types of insects, arachnids, do be careful there are snakes as well don't approached them certainly not touch them it would ruin your day.
The desert isn't just observable during the day, keep in mind the further away from the city lights you are the more observable the stars are throughout the year. Going through the desert at night is a totally different experience versus seeing the same period in daylight.
It even varies great thing between a moonless night, a full moon night, a blood moon, as much as it does the time of year that you view the desert night or day.
Great place for hiking historical routes but very remote so there is a bunch of desert to see and then more desert.
It's just off the freeway with easy access for all vehicles. A great place to park, camp and explore.
Great pretty location especially after the rain looks like a great place to go camping as well
Ok hike
Parking lots small
All camp sites booked for a wedding
They pretty much owned the place
We tent camped here for a night instead of two due to high wind like 30 gust! For the tent camper, this place is 3 stars because not only high wind but also hard ground. We broke half of the stakes we had. If we bring our 33f 5th wheel here, we wouldn't go because we didn't see any open space to turn our rig around. So for small TT, there were about three places after making right turn at the immigration sign. One great thing is the location. This place is by I-8 may be 1/2 down.
Remote, exceedingly dry and very dusty. No guide maps. Trails are numbered but not helpful without a guide map. Would help to have a couple markers that would indicate where you are at and what exactly you are looking at. Typical AZ National Park with no improved camp sites, no water, no trash cans, but found one outhouse and one picnic table at a trailhead.
