Southern Rail Restaurant reviews
17The first time I went the fried chicken was amazing! The second time the chicken was horrible! Over batter and overcook!
Good food and ambiance but incredibly expensive and small portions. $85/person new year Eve dinner was tasty but definitely wasn't full after!
Overall nice experience. The service was awesome. Very attentive. The food was tasty as well. The Dirty Rice balls were a great app. The chicken was fresh and crispy. Large servings are also a plus! They were out of the greens, so I'm looking forward to trying them on my next visit.
So right before civid hit the wife got me and the girls down here for some bread pudding for a desert only run. Tonight we actually got to have dinner. So impressed we will be making this one of monthly go to places to eat. Steak cook to perfection, collard greens best I've had since I left Virginia, hoppin hommony is off the chart. Wife had enchilada with smoked chick, not drowning in sauce you can actually rather the ingredients, salad was a perfect compliment. Kids burger and grilled cheese better than most. Grilled cheese is very unique and in a class of it's own. But to start it off we had the fried green tomatoes which were amazing and a great way to start. If you haven't already, you should, worth it!
Always great food. The service was good, not excellent like it usually is. There was live music outside and it was good but too loud for conversation so we sat inside.
New Years Eve dinner. First timers.
Was not disappointed. The food, service and the atmosphere was excellent!
Service was great! Food was good! The band was Amazing! Always make reservations and noted Patio seating.
Didn't take pics of my food.
Awsome restaurant to bring your family to. The design and drinks are amazing, you will not regret visiting Southern Rail
Great food and service. Not busy on a Thursday night. Our server boxed our left overs and labeled and dated each box! Never had any one do that before. Liked tha atmosphere too. We will definitely be back.
What a great spot, food was amazing and Erin our server was amazing.they do such a great job here at Southern Rail and the food is awesome. This was our first choice to come into after the lockdown was lifted, we were not disappointed.loved it. Will be back.
Good. Fun atmosphere, decent drinks and v tasty / authentic fried chicken. We also got the shrimp and grits which were good. Nothing else on the menu really jumped out so dunno if we will go back to try anything else.
A couple of weeks ago when I first came here I was being very generous by giving this place a 5 stars due to the fact that this place was a new experience with a nice atmosphere even though we had a not so good server! However, I returned again last night but unfortunately had the same server and quickly regretted being there! It wasn't hard to notice him since he was wearing a hello kitty looking kitten outfit for halloween! However, his outfit wasn't the only thing that was strange besides the food making me throw up later that night! Plus the service was even worse than before as we had to chase him down for our bill just to get out of the place!
The food was delish. Everything we had tasted fantastic I was too full to eat dessert but all the desserts sounded great. Had the fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese. The tomatoes were firm not mushy, the breading crisp and not greasy. A good amount of breading to tomato ratio. And that pimento cheese with the tomatoes. Ruined me. I'll never want a fried green tomato without it ever again! Ok. Next salad. It had a wonderful unique blend of tasty ingredients. I know salad. But yum. Bacon, hard boiled eggs, what I think was freezed dried corn (you'll have to read the menu, I'm going by memory here), pickled green beans, smoked shredded chicken. Yes I'm describing it the best I can and I know I'm not doing it justice. It was so good. The flavors and textures complex and I had to force myself to stop eating, knowing my entree was coming. We shared both the appetizer and salad. Plenty big enough for two. I ordered the fried chicken, came with mashed potatoes and greens. The greens were vinegary and tart and perfect with the slightly chunky perfectly seasoned potatoes. I'd gather a piece of chicken with a bit of potatoes and greens for a perfect bite, of crunchy, savory and tart. The chicken had a good amount of crispy tastes breading and was super tender and moist inside. I don't know how it could have been better. Husband got the gumbo. And loved it. I'd have zero hesitation to go again or to recommend to anyone wanting to go try something new. The decor was rustic, industrial, western and a cool vibe. Service was great. I didn't have a cocktail or dessert, so I can't speak to those things and so I reserve that last star. For when I go back and have the complete review of all offerings. Service was spectacular. Never waited for anything, polite, friendly and helpful without being obtrusive or annoying. Which is the sweet spot of feeling like you have what you need but aren't being stalked.
Manager couldn't be need opening the glass windows to allow for more bar seating. Literally that was his explanation. We cancelled our dinner reservation so they missed out on several hundred dollars spend and went down the road to a fantastic alternative. Will never bother to go back, to many better places to choose from.
Banquet room was perfect for our private event. Our waiter Chris was patient and efficient. He executed his job very well. Now on to the food.portions were more than enough! Plated very well and pleased all the high end palates. Will definitely be back here! Eager to check out the book store next door on my next visit.
HHMMMMMM I ordered the fried chicken and mash with corn very disappointed on the chicken no flavor just dipped in breading and fried not good!
The decor of the place is very nice and inviting. The host was outgoing and helpful and those were the best parts of the night.
The service was lackluster. We were never spoken to like we were customers. We had to pretty much ask for everything except they initial drink.
She wouldn't really stop at our table but she'd slow down a she was heading to the bar.
She did ask if we wanted to order an appetizer but we said no, we'd like to order an entree. She left without a word, like ordering an entree when she was asking for appetizers wasn't acceptable.
Later, we had to ask her to order the entree. She never came by to ask how things were. She came to the table at the end and just sort of stood there so we asked for dessert.
The entire time it was awkward because she would slow down, look at us like she's going to say something, then continue on her way.
I thought the portion for my meatloaf was small considering the price whereas with the fried chicken, there was too much. The fried chicken was also a little greasier than expected and had way too much breading.
The meatloaf was tasty and I really enjoyed the mashed potatoes but the service and chicken brought down the stars.
