Squaw Peak Taekwondo - ATA, Phoenix AZ

The owner was demeaning and rude to my six-year-old son to the point that we did not even stay for a lesson. He would not let us in the building, inexplicably told my son he was not allowed inside (to the lesson we had prearranged), and repeatedly told my kindergartner that he did not like children and did not like him, specifically. "Master" Mark was an obnoxious bully and I would never allow my child to be around this man again. Apparently this was his attempt at humor, but I don't see the joke about telling six-year-olds they are unwelcome and unliked. Fortunately we have found another martial arts studio that is welcoming and where the owner does not disparage small children.

I started out as a student here almost 12 years ago, and Master Gilbride is like family to me at this point. Since becoming an instructor under his guidance, I've seen countless students become not only skilled martial artists but people with better focus, perseverance, and respect for others. As for me personally, I went from being an awkward kid who was out of my comfort zone to a leader who's confident in myself and knows how to understand people's abilities and limits. Going to Squaw Peak ATA has been one of the best experiences of my life, and I can't say enough positive things about it.

My daughter loves all the instructors at Squaw Peak Taekwondo. She is learning all the essential self-defense skills in a positive, friendly and nurturing environment. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to build their confidence, learn Taekwondo and improve their health and fitness.

I brought a shy, quiet 10 year old to Squaw Peak ATA and 2 years later I have a strong, confident black belt. He has learned a skill, but also much more. Great instructors and a safe place for kids to enjoy themselves.

After 4+ years of attending Squaw Peak ATA, he still looks forward to attending every class. Mark GilBride fosters a close, caring community within Squaw Peak Taekwondo. My daughter began classes just over two years ago. She has been encouraged and supported by Master GilBride and the instructors and is now a black belt and an instructor. We can’t say enough nice things.

We have been involved with Squaw Peak ATA & Master Gilbride for 10 years; first our daughter and now our son has risen through the ranks. I have been in and around martial arts for almost 40 years. My daughter started going to Squak Peak TKD a year ago and fell in love with Master GilBride’s teaching style. She even got me into joining her. We go three times weekly like it’s part of our daily lives. Master G is great with kids. He motivates them and encourages them to be better all the time. Squaw Peak Taekwondo is more than a school, is a family and a community. Mark the Master Instructor is awesome, he is fun, warm, firm and a true role model for the students. All the instructors and student leaders are so invested in the community of students, helping and supporting each. Squaw Peak ATA has been a great place for my son to practice martial arts. This is a place that feels like an extension of home. Everyone knows each other, everyone is friendly and helpful and the instructors are incredible. They take the time to teach the kids in a positive way that helps them to progress at their own pace. Mark the owner is great at diversifying instruction to accommodate all students who are willing to put in the effort.
