Taverna Modern Mediterranean reviews
17Started with bacon wrapped dates appetizer. Wow! Goes so well with the house Cabernet and Merlot. Entrees we ordered were the beet salad which is a excellent combination of grilled chicken, chevre and arugula with beets and apple julienne in an lemon oregano vinaigrette. The Greek sausage loukaniko, two thinly sliced and lightly sauteed grilled sausages sprinkled with feta cheese on a bed of creamy risotto. Both excellent choices. We will definitely be back.
Great cocktails and good food, the waitress warned us about anything that might be too spicy, recommended for sure. Beautiful restaurant
The atmosphere and the ambiance of this place was just as wonderful as their food and drink. Service was great, food was delicious and my fig and honey margarita was better than I could have imagined. I will have to go back to try sone of their other menu items.
I'm torn on this place. Very nice remodel, staff was unattentive, food was delicious bit Hella expensive. A chicken bowl was $21. I live in Central Phx where dining out is expensive. For some reason they gave me sticker shock. 3 of us for dinner, 1 soft drink and 2 waters, no appy was $100 with tip. Maybe a special occasion place.that's it due to high costs.
We’ve been here many times and liked it, but the last couple times the food has been very disappointing. Salad without any dressing, flavorless gyros, soggy spanakopita, hard and dry bacon wrapped dates… Also disappointing that they no longer flambé the saganaki table side…
Delicious food, great service… we will be coming back next time we visit our daughter at NAU
My to-go baklava was very soggy, but I wanted to give this place another chance, so I ordered the spanakopita to go this time. It is supposed to be very crispy phyllo, but instead was also very soggy. I think it was soggy because it was packaged in a plastic container and there was moisture collected on the lid from the steam. The staff should think about how to package items so they don't get soggy.
Unfortunately, a place I have enjoyed in the past will not be a place I visit in the future. First, the positive- the food was delicious. Fantastic. Superb.
Now, the other…
The bartender - with a full bar of customers - was also assigned the booths. Needless to say, the service wasn’t there. The wine glasses were empty and the food was delivered, eaten, and gone before he ever came back. He was shocked we had even received our food. This is a reflection of management/planning.
The portion vs.cost. The picture is of the Chicken Bowl - with the harissa and red sauce mixed up. This is a $22 bowl of food. Nothing had been eaten out of it. This was worth a $12 lunch portion. Now, it was delicious, but not worth $22 - and not connected to an understaffed service situation.
Just disappointed in the experience from a place we have enjoyed.
There are other places in Flag that deserve and will get the local support.
This was our first time at Taverna and we were very happy with our experience! It was busy but not over crowded and you are able to set a reservation. We had the calamari as an app, santorini chicken and gyro bowl as entrees. Everything was extremely good and flavorful. Will definitely visit again.
I visited this place on my way back from Page to Phoenix. It was an impromptu choice, but everything turned out to be so good. We ordered Spanish Sangria, Falafel Pita, Spicy Penne and Baklava. Each of these dishes were so good, cannot appreciate any of these enough!
Haven't visited for a few years. It was good. Surprised by how quickly the calamari and the pizza arrived after ordering. We sat at the bar and service was acceptable.
Calamari was a modest portion, but served with beaucoup arugula. The dipping sauce was unusual, but worked as a dressing for the greens anyway.
Pizza was good. Sausage was spicy.
Service was outstanding. Food was okay (I had the falafel bowl). I would go here again when in town because I know I could choose from several vegetarian dishes.
I've always enjoyed this place. The food is good, flavorful, not spicy. Get the Saganaki appetizer (don't forget to squeeze the lemon all over it before eating to bring out all the flavors) and I love the kale salad (add chicken or gyro meat) or mushroom ravioli or grilled lamb. The menu has changed recently (don't rely on the menu pics, see their website for most accurate menu options). The mixed drinks could be a little stronger honestly. Don't forget to end the meal with Ouzo (chilled) if you like black licorice liquor. Opa!
Consistently clean and pleasant place to get a great meal. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
Why this place doesn't have 5 stars I don't understand. Wonderful and delicious food. Great place.
We had 2 appetizers, 1 hamburger, 1 Greek salad and 1 piece of cake. The food was underwhelming. The cost was a shock.
Menu and food was above 3 stars. We were seated and the bartender was our original server as she got busy our service got worse. No one assigned to our needs as she was overwhelmed at the bar.
