The Dog Spaw, Gilbert AZ

UPDATE a year later: it’s been a few days and I’m still very bothered and upset. We always try to get Stella in when we are back on a rare visit. We were unable to two weeks ago and couldn’t make the available times work. Therefore, beyond happy to get in this trip. Our vet cleared her to have a bath with two tiny stitches under her eye as they were due out (they’ll remove when we return home) Very easy to not wash her head regardless but she was cleared. Don’t piss them off, they’ll take it out on your dog. Shaved her stomach when there was no need. One mat under there. Her hair doesn’t grow back as soft and long when she has been shaved for procedures in the past. So needless to say I’m fuming. Didn’t trim around her paws and the wee grinch feet. Took a lot off her tail off for unknown reasons. They just utterly tanked and we definitely feel it was personal. The Manager, I understand was busy but I could hear everything from her distasteful tone to her words behind the barrier. As she came out to speak at me, correct, at…. Wouldn’t let me explain that the vet had cleared her and happy to provide something with consent. Took her in the end. Begrudgingly. Love the owner (or who I believe to be the owner) but she wasn’t here on this trip.

A year ago and all visits up until Nov 2023: We were in a bind since we were just visiting and not able to see our amazing groomer back in California before we left. Our 7yr old Stella loved her spa day at the Dog Spaw! Her face says it all! Staff were so friendly and amazing. Stella came out so so soft! Grinch feet gone! (Love that term they taught us and cracks us up because it’s so spot on!) and honestly the best we’ve ever seen her! Thank you!

What kind of voodoo magic is this? ! No excess fur is coming off of our forever shedding pugs after their dog baths with Avery. Our pupperonis not only look pugtastic, they smell fabulous even several hours later — most unlike their normal tooty selves. I’m just in utter shock that I’m petting them and clumps of fur aren’t flying around like dandelions on steroids. Avery is a gentle and kind spirit. Very thorough, patient, skilled, and a real animal lover. You can just tell she’d never hurt a fly. We followed her from another place and this place seems like a great fit!:) We are more than happy with our experiences at The Dog Spaw! So much so that we set up monthly appointments with Avery. Anyhow, don’t just believe my words in this arguably well-written review. Check out our stunning babies right after their beauty appointments!

Worst experience I’ve had at a groomer, and resulted in a vet bill.
I have two pups that I’ve taken here 3 times now, and the progressively got worse. This most recent time it took 3 phone calls and 2 voicemails over the course of a week to get a call back and appt booked. Little did I know that I would get my two dogs back with the choppiest haircuts: long hairs left on ears, different lengths on the body, uneven leg lengths. Im normally not one to complain but rather request a different groomer, however, I noticed one dog constantly licking her paw. I thought maybe they cut her nail too short like the last time. Instead I found a CHUNK missing out of her paw pad! A chunk, not a cut. Im so beyond frustrated that 1- this happened, and 2- I was not informed at pick up. Now, not only do my dogs look like I groomed them at home, but now I get to take one in to the vet for infection control. I am speaking to a manager there tomorrow to see how they choose to handle this, but I am NOT happy with the groomer “Bea”, nor the customer service thus far.

Very pleased to say my pup and I were well taken care of after addressing this issue! Mo helped us and was very understanding and supportive. They graciously covered our vet bill as well as the grooming cost, which I very much appreciate. I understand dogs can be hard to groom and things happen, and they know to inform now of any accidents in the future. I appreciate their cooperation and customer service after that incident, and hope that they learn from their mistakes!:)

Pawesome staff! Our groomers take meticulous care with our husky mix and she comes out smelling amazing. They execute your notes and make the process easy. My Zoe loves them.

I bring my dogs here to get their nails trimmed. The price is amazing, the service is quick, and the staff is friendly. My dogs also approve, so I am very happy that I found this place! Thank you.

I brought my dog here for the first time. She’s a goldendoodle who was wildly overdue for a groom. They had to shave her down because of her mats, which is not the issue. The issue is that my dog was nicked 3 times and they didn’t tell me. I found out after I had taken her home and found the scabs myself. The groomer she had was the one who walked her out to me and didn’t say anything to me about the nicks. To spend $150 on a groom and have my dog covered in scabs is not okay.

Mo did an amazing groom on My Molly, she is an Irish wolfhound / Old English sheepdog. She was so kind with her, shaved her down, did her nails clipped & a drummel to smooth sharp edges. Just beautiful, she has 20 yrs experience. I recommend her highly!

I've taken my Cavalier Kind Charles puppy to the Dog Spaw since I got her, and they've always done a great job! I've had a couple of their groomers take care of her and they've both done a fantastic job. They always do exactly what I ask and leave her looking amazing and clean and treat her very well. Great location too, can grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants around them.
My only complaint would be the reservation system. Sometimes it takes a while to get a response to a reservation request and can take some back and forth to find a good time. I wish they had an online portal for easier reservations. This is just a minor inconvenience though!

I love this place! It's right behind OHSO in downtown Gilbert, right before you get to the parking garage. $22 for the DIY wash for my Aussie, which is super fair. Access to the dog bath tub (which has a hose AND shampoo), the doggie blow dryers, ear and teeth cleaning supplies, nail cutting supplies AND brushes. They really have everything you'd need! If your dog gets scared with loud noises though, it does get very loud!

My puppy Lemon has gone here from Day 1. They treat her so good. The grooming is phenomenal, they do a great job! Highly recommend

Absolutely love this grooming salon. My dog Molly is very picky and is shy around new people but she loves all the staff and they tell that she always does good with them and is super sweet. Another bonus is she lets them do her nails. All the staff is super nice and pricing is very reasonable. Definitely recommend them.

This place is so caring and did such a good job taking care of my furbaby. They offer a good selection of nail colors and always give her a cute bandana for the season!

Staff went above and beyond to help me and my two kids give our dog a DIY bath! They had everything and more, including a step stool for my kids to stand on, and ear muffs for the dog when the vacuum was scaring him. I was SO impressed! Will absolutely be back.

They take great care of my pup, and I love that they communicate via text. So much easier than constantly calling back and forth. Great location and friendly staff

This place is a gem! My dog has high anxiety and they always go out of their way to accommodate her and communicate clearly when she is approaching being ready for pickup. They are consistent and detailed with the grooming and their staff is friendly. Keep up the good work Dog Spaw! (Also, they are located next to OHSO so you can grab a beer and lunch and have your dog join you after their grooming on their dog friendly patio!)

This was my first time using a DIY pet wash. The staff was helpful and they have a great setup. The little extras like having ear cleaning solution and toothpaste and a toothbrush were unexpected and such a nice touch. I appreciated the provided apron, and my back appreciated the tub height. I will definitely be back.

Grooming prices are fair and they always take good care of our pup, we told the staff she needs a certain level of care since she's a bit weaker from chemo and they were happy to take care of her. Appreciate y'all!
