Tommy Camper Vans and Adventure Trucks reviews
19I Can’t say enough good things about Tommy Camper Vans, their quality of work, craftsmanship and time frames are absolutely unbeatable. Hands-down the best van builders in Arizona! I recommend renting one of their vans before you purchase it so you get the van layout best fit for you, truly the best customer service in town
So thankful I heard about this place. They installed my swivel seat and roof rack fairing fairly quickly and reasonably priced.
Looks like Camper Van Heaven when you drive up too
Tommy Camper Vans.
Much thanks goes out to Mikey, Justin, Zack (who was the builder of our van) "Thanks Zach " the craftsmanship is A1. It was six weeks ago I didn't know who to call to have a 12volt A/ C and electrical system with batteries installed. Looking for accessories, An Online company I made some purchases with, recommended Tommy Camper Vans, and it all starts with a call, and working with there (Operations Manager) Justin, and the gals in the front office. Micky the Owner has a top notch operation, your in for a treat, if you deliver your van, the tour of the facility is very impressive. All in order with the build area 6 to 8 slant van positions the Vans are hand made by 2 person teams, and the craftsmanship is A1. A fabrication shop, wood shop paint shop.
Now our build went from A/C an Electrical to my creation of the Bennett build, less water system, gas stove, heat. But the floor plan is Bennett, so all that can be added in the future. The 12 volt fridge we located under where the sink would of been on there slider assembly. We also decided to go with less tung n groove (cost savings) but can be added, again if we decide to add the rest of the accessories. We are very happy with our Van build, again thanks Mikey, Justin for taking on a Partial build. And Zach for your craftsmanship an to the Electrication who wired and set up the system.
(Wait til you get your van and see the Electrical system under the bed, I'm glad for 2 reasons it's open mounted to the wall accessable, and to show it off "A work of Art".
To sum up my Review I never 5 star. But I had to here 5 star
Thanks to Tommy Camper Vans.
I bought my Tommy Camper June of this year and it’s been the best decision I’ve ever made! The build only took about 3 1/2 months and I immediately hit the road! Everyone has such a great vibe at the office which made it an overall great experience. They showed me around the shop and I got to see each stage of the builds! The vibe was so good I ended up wanting to work there:) now I help out at TCV!
From the initial phone call to delivery, Mike and his team were top notch. Great communication throughout. So many options to fit my needs to make my dream camper van. The craftsmanship and quality are incredible. I couldn’t be happier.
We had a great experience sourcing and building our van through Tommy Camper Van! After Mikey helped us find a van in Phoenix the team was extremely helpful designing our van to meet our needs. While our van was getting built we rented one of their Vans for our road trip out west. We loved one of the features in the rental so much that when we returned the van we asked if they could add it in ours and they were able to make it happen. We are loving our new van!
I had a great experience working with Tommy Camper Vans, and I love my new van! From start to finish, the people I encountered were extremely helpful. Customer service is top notch. Communication and follow-through has been beyond what I expected. The staff here went above and beyond and even bailed me out of a few problems that I created myself. I can’t say enough kind things about each person I encountered when working with them, from the owner of TCV throughout their technical team, and their support staff. Each and every person I encountered was as helpful, responsive, and as kind as the next.
And the van is fantastic! My first trip was a cross-country marathon and everything worked smoothly and without issue. That first trip was spent in the dessert, the beach, and the mountains. The temperatures ranged from a low of 17 degrees to a high of 85 degrees at varying points of the trip. For the entire time, we were comfortable inside our van. It kept us warm when it was cold and kept us cool when it was hot. Having a hot water heater that actually gets HOT was a pleasant surprise. It’s a crazy feeling to take a relaxing shower inside a van at the end of day. It’s fantastic.
I don’t live anywhere near where TCV is located. Yet I was so impressed by their staff, and the value they offer for the price, that I chose to work with them remotely from across the country. I was not disappointed. Everything has been handled superbly.
Thanks much to the whole team at TCV for a great experience.
We've had our van for 1.5yrs but wanted to wait to write our review to see how things held up because our overall experience with TCV has been starkly different from the other reviews. It was far from hands-on and the communication was very poor throughout. We told TCV of these issues last year via private email-communication got a little better but nothing substantial was done.
The product offered for the price seemed like a great deal. We chose the Bennett layout with a few mods: raised bed, induction stove, long window in back, heater, upgraded electrical system to support induction cooking. Communication during the build was bad-never got any updates/photos; but, we trusted that they knew what they were doing and would deliver to our spec; we verbally confirmed our choices over the phone 3 times, and had a drawn out plan in our email.
When we picked up the van, there were a few hiccups: pickup time shifted from morning to end of day, fridge didn't work, heater gave an error code, and they had installed the wrong window in the back. They had also given us a few "freebies". Like a propane-heated shower in back (we had specifically taken out propane from the entire vehicle). When asked about the window, we were told that a longer window would not work on our van type, yet there are clear photos of what we requested on the same model on their website. Other things we noticed were: the bed was slightly shorter than we were told-seemingly not a big deal, but the spec'd bed size was exactly the height of my husband and he now has to sleep with his feet in the window.
The good: they replaced the fridge with a brand-new one before we left the lot, and were correct when they told us that the heater would work with more gas in the tank. They honored their 1yr warranty, although there were hiccups with staff turnover for getting those scheduled. Later on, they diligently answered several questions about van operations & fixes. The aesthetics of the build are nice, and they did a good job with the overall framing + flooring.
The mediocre: There was some staff turnover around the time we picked up our van, and when we asked for repairs, the process took months. The layout of the base cabinet, sink area, and the installation of the heater is very inefficient and wastes valuable space. We had a recent hiccup with the heater not working - we called TCV and while they did end up getting us in touch with the manufacturer, their first response was that they don't install the heater type that we have (they did the install.maybe a COVID substitution?).
The bad: Communication in general. We wish that they provided more insight into the electrical system and either declined to do an induction stove or told us we needed to pay more for a better system than their base (not just a bigger inverter) : we went with an induction stove to remove propane from the van and asked for their expertise on how to best do that. What we got was definitely not enough power for an induction stove off-grid, and routinely trips the system at full power. When we inquired about this, they said it was because of the inverter tolerances (1800W won't trip a 6000W peak inverter). We later upgraded to lithium batteries on our own; based on the size of our system and what we wanted to replace it with, we should only have had to switch switch out one component and the batteries. However, we found several flaws in the existing system, including incorrectly sized breakers and severely undersized wires (upsizing the wires fixed our inverter tripping). They are good at responding when the questions are simple, but take much much longer when there are bigger issues (i.e. Undersized wires). Ultimately, they did reimburse us for the cost it would have been to upsize the wire of our existing system. After the warranty expired our pull out table warped and won't pull out, our ceramic sink cracked, and the roof rack is rusting. We'll be doing extensive renovations sooner than we would have expected for a professional build.
Thank you so much to the entire team at Tommy Camper van they made ordering our new van a seamless process and kept us updated every step of the way! Thank you so much for taking the stress out of purchasing! Thank you!

I have celebrated my 2 year anniversary of having my wonderful Tommy Camper Ram Van. From time to time I still I have small needs, yesterday it was a small piece of door closing hardware. Mike and Adam were happy to help and make sure my end to end experience is EXCELLENT. I appreciate being part of the Tommy Camper Van community.keep up the great and friendly work!
We had our van built by Tommy Camper Vans almost 1 year ago and it is the best! It’s beautifully built out, but also super functional for spending weeks at a time on the road. We pretty much can’t imagine adventuring without it now. Their custom roof rack (with an actual deck) is a stand out feature we love. There’s nothing quite like watching the sunset at the end of the day from the roof. We are happy we went with Tommy Camper Vans and would recommend then to anyone looking to build out an adventure van!
What an incredible experience! From the sit down consultation to the final product, it was perfect. Mikey and his team built our van to way above our expectation!
We had a great experience with Tommy Camper Vans. The attention to detail of their vans is unmatched. Mikey was also excellent to work with throughout the process. I would highly recommend them for a high quality van build at a reasonable price.
We have had such a great experience with Tommy Camper Vans. We love our build! We really wanted a customized look, and Tommy Camper backed us up the whole way. They have also been so kind and supportive when we have needed repairs.
