Tovrea Castle at Carraro Heights reviews
9I took this photo while waiting at the 51st and Washington St. Traffic Control Device right next to the light rail. Too bad Mrs. Tovrea had her life taken by her jealous greedy cowardly bums while she slept. I won't step foot on the property. The dome paint job is yuck. But it's part of Phoenix history. That entire area is filled with early Phoenix history. The Stockyards, The Zoo, Old Legend City. Governor Hunt Tomb. Look it up. April 1st, 1988 James Butch Herrod shot her 5 times from point blank through the pillow he placed over her face after opening the only window he knew had no alarm! Definitely not pneumonia!
This was a fun tour. Growing up in Phoenix I have seen this castle on the hill my whole life. It was a lot of fun to get the history and to finally be able to see the inside. The only downside is the amount of time you get to spend inside. There is a lot to read and look at but they don't give you enough time to do so. I highly recommend it though tickets are hard to get.
Near impossible to get tickets for unless you plan 6-12 months ahead, very over-priced, wasn't even that entertaining. The outside of the castle is the best part, don't waste your time waiting 6 months to see the inside.
Historic house that is iconic for AZ. Great information learned on the tour. I would recommend signing up to get tickets and take the tour. Very cool!
Great tour with volunteer guides that clearly enjoy showing the property. If you’re lucky enough to get picked by the raffle you’ll learn so much about ‘that random castle off the 202”
Thanks so much to Gayle and Mary Jo for the tour and for Joyce in the gift shop!
It was an ok tour. I was kinda disappointed that we weren't able to go upstairs but I really enjoyed learning about the history of the land prior to the castle.
Thought it was a bit expensive for the little you see inside the Castle. Would've been nicer if you were able to walk the beautiful grounds after tour. Great gift shop!
Wonderful staff!
The beds were a little uncomfortable. (haha)
Worthy of the trouble it takes to get the tickets
