West Fork Oak Creek Trailhead reviews
16 This is a nice alternative to any hills or rock scrambling that is in the area.
You will cross streams on this trail (great for kids)
The variety on trail is above par as well, winding path over logs and twisted small hills. Tall trees and larger than life rock formations!
Worth the stop and perfect for a quick trail, if you have limited time and its right off the main road.
Does cost $12 to park.
Wear shoes capable of getting wet or a bit resisant just in case.
On weekdays there are few people, silence and a wonderful panorama await you, moderately difficult, good hiking shoes are recommended because of the stones.
Awesome trail! We weren't expecting to spend 5+ hours hiking, but it was totally worth it. Should have been more prepapred and looked up the time to hike. Very easy trail, not a lot of uphill. You do cross the river a few times, so be on the lookout for some peculiar rocks when you reach the crossings so you know where to cross!
We were there early (7am) on a Saturday morning. There was a line when we got there, but we got in pretty quickly. There was ample parking. But none when we left around 12: 30pm. The hike is gorgeous as always. The trees were changing colors so it was very beautiful. Also, Take some time to visit the old home/lodge ruins near the begining of the hike. It has an interesting history. The trail was very busy by mid -late morning. But everyone was friendly.
Best trail I have ever been. Must visit and make sure you have 2hrs to do the trekking. Pack enough water and storage space in your phone.
These pictures were taken on OCT 22nd. If you want to see the leaves turn you need to go before the end of October. I have gone in the middle of November and everything dry already.
Favorite hiking trail in all of Arizona! For a better experience, bring water shoes! While the trail itself is great, I like to hike along the creek. It's more beautiful and secluded. Plus, if you wanna go further than the end of the trail and discover the beauty that lies beyond, you gotta get your feet wet anyway. It's well worth it tho!
Beautiful trail. Not too difficult because there isn’t a lot of elevation gain but does have some river crossings which could be challenging for younger hikers.
West Fork is a well groomed trail that meanders the banks of Oak Creek. It crosses many times, giving plenty of opportunity for kids of all ages and mindsets to get water curious.
In my experience, feet will remain dry unless the wearer chooses otherwise. That being said, water shoes or boots may be wise.
Love this trail.but you gotta come early. This popular trail has limited parking and like most of Sedona, parking fills up fast. Fortunately, they have four parking stalls for people to park before the gates open. You must still pay to enter park, but don't have to wait in long line if you show up early. TIP: buy the Red Rock pass or Sedona annual pass $45 and hang on rearview mirror before arriving and show up before gates open to ensure you get into park. Happy trails!
This trail is a great hike for a novice or pet owner. Not many steep grades or deep water to cross, but amazing landscape views from the creek bottom. The trail can be narrow at times, but also offers plenty of shade. Plenty of four four-legged walkers along the way. Peak traffic hours seem to be mid-morning.
Beautiful trail. Mostly in the shade. The parking lot is open at 7: 30, it gets full pretty quickly so definitely get there before 8: 30 or 9. It’s popular with families and school field trips.
Very flat trail, easy for all ages. However this trail gets a 1 star for parking. It's terrible, Wait time is 1 -2 hours to get in. Most park 1/2 mile away and walk to park entrance. What really sucks, they still charge you to walk in. The 1/2 mile walk to this trail is really dangerous. You're walking along the highway. Not good.
TLDR: great hike, only a few spots where rocks were slippery either going down steeper parts of the trail or crossing the creek. If you have decent balance and / or a walking stick, you do not NEED water shoes. Hiking boots would be ideal, running shoes are fine. The trail isn’t always intuitive, but you’ll be fine. Parking is indeed tight; we got there around 8: 30 on a holiday weekend and there were 5 spots left.
