We went in and there were only 4 people dining at 5: 09 PM. As we waited 20 min to get a table we noticed none of them were eating. We got our table and ordered. At 6: 45 we received 1 of 5 meals ordered. Then we received 1 meal about every 10 minutes until I received my salad and soup at 7: 15. Then at 7: 20 I received my actual meal. We were not given any details about what was happening. We asked and received a harsh response from our waitress. Some of the food was very good and some was just ok but none was worth the wait.

This is the best sushi in town. Excellent and fast service. Charming location and you may want to make a reservation for lunch or dinner. You won’t be disappointed.

I got take out and was impressed with the quality of the food, how they packaged it all and even included a beautiful rose! It was truly one of the most thoughtful, delicious experiences I've had here in Tucson for take out sushi.

Who closes at 8pm on a Saturday night. … They post 8: 30pm but if you walk in at 8: 10 they tell you they’re closed. - Can’t wait til they really want to earn their keep.

The best Japanese restaurant in town. Hidden gem, not quite hidden as this place is located in the strip mall off the busy road. The sushi was fresh, and the sushi rice was expertly coked. Not too hot or cold, just enough warmth to enhance the flavor of sushi. Highly recommend.

I really can’t add anything that hasn’t been said…other than we’re going back.

Probably my favorite sunomono, ever. Beautifully lemony. All fish was great - best tuna I’ve had in a while in AZ and CA, hamachi even better but that seems to be how it’s going now. Nice negihama. Hubs had ramen and while I’m not a ramen girl, I did try the broth and it was great. Beautifully fried tempura. And last but really first - the rice was very good.

Had ramen and chef's choice of sushi. Both were good. I haven't eaten a lot of sushi so don't really know how it rates, but we would definitely eat there again.

Great experience. We ordered dinner for two. Excellent quality and plenty to eat. The service was great. I highly recommend it. We had a slight wait but the wait was worth it.

I’ve eaten sushi all over the states, and Yamato has always been the number 1 spot for me.
The sushi here is always fresh, and rich with flavour. I often forget to use soy sauce when I come here because it truly doesn’t need it to taste good.
For new comers to sushi, I would recommend their spicy tuna roll and Unagi nigiri. Then let those options open the door for you to branch out and try the rest. Naboru Nakajima (The head chef) serves art that is unlike anything you’ll have anywhere else. I never have an issue leaving a hefty tip to show appreciation for his 30 years of sushi crafting skill.

Best sushi in Tucson, and has been for the last 25 years I've been visiting. Noboru is a genius.

This is my favorite sushi place in town—actually, in the world. Also, shout out to Alice. She’s an amazing server. I always feel welcome and well taken care of. The sushi options are plentiful! And they even serve the sweetest, most delicious fruit with their sushi. Thank you, Yomato Staff

A very cozy Japanese restaurant! Service was very friendly and helpful. Me and a friend went on a Thursday and the restaurant filled up as the night went. We wanted to try a bit of everything so we went all out. I got the unagidon (grillled eel rice bowl), my friend got veggie curry rice and both our mains were fantastic! The eel was delicate and flavorful, the curry delicious and packed with veggies. We also got inarizushi (fried tofu pouch marinated in sweet sauce stuffed with sushi rice) which were really a tasty treat and a few pieces of sushi. The saba nigiri (mackerel) was so good! The temaki spicy crab roll was great. I was surprised to see perennial dim sum favorite shumai were on the menu. These came out super fresh and hot with a dab of Chinese spicy mustard. Everything was just delicious. Atmosphere was nice and quiet. Golf was on the small TV behind the sushi counter. We had one of the many sake selections, the Hakutsuru Junmai Ginjo which is always great and a sake we’ve had many times before. It is very smooth and fragrant with fruity notes when drank cold. For desert I got a melon cream soda float and my friend got mochi mango ice cream! What a meal! Their menu is very diverse and has options for many dietary restrictions as well. Now I need to go slip into a food coma…

If you are a foodie, this is the place for you! We got rejected twice from not making a reservation and I will say, it was alarming at first… but after finding out why, I appreciate the exclusivity.
They only have 6 tables in there and a 3 person team. Their service, menu, and food is beyond amazing. This establishment reminds me of the restaurants you see on those Netflix shows, highlighting the love and dedication put into the food. We will be returning for many years and feel blessed to finally get to dine at this hidden gem!
