When your uncle is famous for his hickory smoked pork butt and there's a family BBQ sauce recipe, your mouth just starts to water when you find a new pit bbq place in the neighborhood. Maybe my expectations were too high but 101 BBQ Hut is just okay. Cajun salmon did not have any Cajun flavor. FYI, lived in Louisiana for years. No sampler BBQ platter on the menu? I can't order two slices of brisket, some pulled pork and a chicken leg or thigh with a couple of sides because the point of sale software doesn't allow it? They make very good Kansas City style in four variations of chili level but how about a Carolina or Kentucky style sauce? If you've ever walked up to the counter at Leo's on Crenshaw before it closed, this is not that level of bbq.

My one concern is how pricey this food is.
$15 for a sandwich And $2.50 for a pathetically small scoop of coleslaw if you ask for "Southern style"

Had the hot link sandwich with Cole slaw and added some of their Nitro bbq sauce, and it was legitimately one of the best hot link sandwiches I've ever had. The smoky flavor of the meat was awesome.

Had the brisket sandwich and it was very tasty and tender. Plenty of outdoor sitting to be enjoyed specially if you have a pet with you. *Dog friendly.
Staff was very nice and attentive. Will definitely be back.

Nice place with a good atmosphere. Good the brisket sandwich which had a generous amount of meat and good flavor. Inside is super clean and has a good beer selection.

The brisket sandwich was delicious. It was a great portion size, cooked well, and the brioche bun was a good choice. Sweet potato fries had a great taste and texture. D. C.and Anthony were super kind and helpful. Excited to try more things on their menu!

Gen of a joint in Westlake. The Santa Fe Chicken sandwich is excellent and they have some sort of Cantaloupe-ade that is delicious.

Brisket vs. Tritip - The two heavyweight contenders in most (at least California based) BBQ establishments, that seemingly leave you having to make the choice, and come back to try another…. Unless you’re fortunate enough to either have the lovely other half that doesn’t stab your hand with a fork when you reach on their plate, or, the guys that buys both so that you don’t have to make 2 trips while leaving yourself wondering what’s what. Well, I did that for you. Plus, I have a mini panel of 3 random people that give their take and why in my visit. This includes the awesome employees of the spot, a close friend that I trust his actual developed pallet, and someone who had just had it passing on the street. All were pretty inclined to the Tri-tip except for one. Was this because most Californians just haven’t had REAL low and slow brisket? Was it because basically in California, tritip is basically the end all be all? I took these into consideration for sure, having had actual BBQ in all the staples of the US (not saying I’m a pro, but pretty damn close). After diving into a half of each, there seems to be, in my opinion, one slightly more robust contender here…. That’s the Tritip, actually. The smoke was apparent, the tenderness was in the right ballpark, and moisture was borderline, well, Bristket-like. (Ironic) Although the brisket IS very, very good, and I definitely wouldn’t kick it out of bed…the Tritip just seems to want and please you bit more and treat your tastebuds to breakfast the next morning. So yeah, come for the brisket if everyone is talking about it, it stay for the Tritip Sando and I know you won’t be let down. In a head to head they stand up pretty damn good, but one hits just a LITTLE harder. Furthermore, the restaurant is clean, welcoming, tasteful and a fun atmosphere with great sonic sounds of Cody Johnson and Chris Stapleton in the background, with great guys working the place like Dillon, who was knowledgeable and enthusiastic to have me in. For me, I’ll definitely be back. Thankfully, it gave me enough of a sense of how great the place is to where I’m excited to bring more people back to enjoy as well. Thank you 101BBQ HUT for the great experience and food. And if you’re into something a bit more involved in the dining experience, go visit the sister restaurant Tavern 101 that has always impressed me as well! Good job guys, you’re definitely bringing something around that was MUCH needed to a dying state.

We've been here a couple of times now and the BBQ is fantastic. By far the best in the Conejo Valley. Ranch Hand, Bandits, etc.could learn a lot about making good BBQ from these guys. Everything we have tried so far has been fantastic with the best being the Prime Rib Sandwich. The meat is really tender and the peppers and sauce complement the prime rib fantastically. We have also tried the brisket sandwich, the pork belly sandwich and the bbq chopped salad with pulled pork. All are really good. The Mac and Cheese is actually really good Mac and Cheese and that is hard to find, at least in this area, these days. Highly recommend checking them out. They are hoping to get their liquor license soon, so looking forward to having a beer with all the great BBQ.

The BBQ Hut charges $13 for a kids meal that comes with 2 tiny chicken tenders, fries and a water cup for soda. Their bbq wrap is $14.95 and comes with no sides. The food was average and not worth the cost. The manager is eating at the bar and serving food in between first downs.

This is some of the best BBQ I’ve ever had. Both their pulled pork (pictured) and pulled chicken sandwiches are absolute fire. The mac and cheese is incredible. The service is always on point, and staff is super friendly. Highly recommend!

Just your average BBQ sandwich shop with great BBQ. Brisket is the way to go. Loved the ShortRib, but its BlueCheese heavy, which I love, but not for everyone. Pulled pork is good. Sauces are good as well. I would go with a side of onion rings. Would recommend to anyone who likes a good BBQ sandwich.

I'll start with I'm a picky eater. I ate the brisket sandwich and pulled pork. On the brisket sandwich they had alot of brisket inside for it's price but it wasn't as tender as I wished it would be. The bun, the sauce, everything even the thick cut tomato was great, but the brisket.if it was more tender, more Juicy, and less beefy aftertaste.

Pulled pork was ok. Not tender except about 10% of it but the slaw inside and the bun was great.

Hands down the best BBQ I’ve ever had that didn’t come from someone’s back yard. The fact that I’ve found one of the best southern style bbq joints I’ve ever had, and I found it in CALIFORNIA is absolutely amazing. This is the real deal if you don’t believe me try it for yourself.

Exceptional customer service! In fact, I'm writing this review because of the great customer service! Every where I go, even the best areas sometimes have good food but bad customer service or lousy food, and staff constantly asking you to give their place a good rating, when you weren't even satisfied with your experience. This restaurant has the whole package, fantastic customer service, exceptional food and desserts. In fact, everyone should try the bread pudding with ice cream, yum, yum! And I love places the most that you could seat yourself, but still have a beautiful unclass restaurant environment. The place has a great atmosphere, and everything above!

Really good sandwiches and salads and the employees are so nice!
My son and I drive from Simi just to go here.
I would drive here for the amazing cornbread alone!

EDIT: Just paid a visit to the newer Russell Ranch location and the food is still amazing! We had the Bubba sandwich, brisket sandwich, beans, mac & cheese and cornbread. All Awesome.
Eat here!
