24 Hour Fitness, Santa Monica CA

I have been coming here for a couple of years because it is close to my place and the wifi is good enough for streaming and zoom calls. I never have to wait for cardio equipment, but the weight room is packed on weekday nights.

The main negative is the bathroom. I wonder if anyone ever cleans it, totally gross!

The machines are okay, I go in the morning so I can usually work out what I want, what really annoys is how dirty the bathroom is! It looks like they never clean it! It’s fungi all over the place, it definitely needs a deep cleaning. I shared some disgusting pictures from this morning! For sure those are not the only places that are that dirty

This gym is very dirty, run down, and sad. I showed the manager the pictures I posted on here and he wasn’t surprised by how dirty it is. He said they have a cleaning crew but I only ever see one woman cleaning and it’s impossible for her to clean a whole facility on her own well. The equipment is also very old and not well maintained. The machines are missing handle cushions, rusted and broken. Layers of dust on everything. There’s no passion for fitness here. It’s always warm because the AC is not on.

I paused my account when I moved and when I moved back and called to unpause my account front staff said they never paused it and they couldn’t refund because there wasn’t an email address associated with my account and the manager didn’t help me.

They have changed Showhead into new ones. Which is basically same as city public shower room shower heads. The flow of the water has been restricted and can't even adjust directions of water. Because of that members needs to take much longer showers because simply water amount coming out from it's shower head are too little. Because of less water in shower room I see dirty debris are present in every shower room because it ain't flushed into the drains because of not enough water is enough to drain those human mysterious debris such as hairs, left out soaps, spilled shampoos, shaved beards etc etc.when I saw a piace of human feces on it's floor I knew this is out of hands and it's about time to make a health department reporting.
Now, members ers are needs to wait to take showers. Last night I needed to waite 30 min long just to take shower. And to properly clean my body it took me 3 times of length of shower time. I don't know who came up with this abusive idea but it's actually not saving any water at all. And contrarily, it's became more inconvenient for paying members and I'm considering to switch gym. This ain't worth for my membership cost. Seriously.

I made a mistake and payed for a full year, now I'm stuck with a gym that it's almost impossible to find a free machine or a bench or weights.

The facility is fine and the machines are in decent condition.the most annoying thing to me about it is that it's so crowded and there aren't enough freeweights to go around.the rack is consistently empty and the weights are never racked in the right place (even though the dang thing is labeled). I have always had to wait to use equipment at all the times i have ever been, unless maybe you're up for a workout from 11pm-6am - bet it's pretty empty then.the pool, sauna, and steam room are nice amenities.reading through the other reviews, i don't think it's filthy or even dirty.it could stand to be more well-maintained for sure but it is definitely not gross my any measure.contrary to reports on here, there is no towel service.the water in the shower doesn't get hot enough for me to want to shower there - but probably most normal people don't like super hot showers anyway so maybe this isn't an issue for you.the people are friendly, and it's relatively inexpensive.i haven't found another better gym in the area so i bought the year membership.what i think a big BIG improvement would be is to open up the outdoor space again - we have the parking and it makes more a much more enjoyable gym experience where people aren't crowded.if this were my gym, i would take advantage of the outside space and the beautiful weather here. Robert easy does not know how to use a computer to look people up and is extremely rude about his inability to look me up on the computer. Plz remove him from this position.

Customer service is improved since my last review. Friendly guys at the front desk always greet me and say “ bye. Have a good day”
Gym floor is clean. A lot of benches and machines, and dumbbells are “missing” And about cardio equipment: plenty of stations and they are sort of clean. Although almost Everyone is concerned about leaving the station wiped with paper.
Mens bathrooms are not clean. Different times of different days I found them messy and stinky and junk al around the corners and edges. Better cleaning and sanitation is a must ASAP.
Parking situation is a blessing. Free 2 hour parking with validation!
Now with more spaces because the outdoor gym is gone!

I liked this gym up until they got rid of the outdoor section. It’s now a very cramped space and you have to wait 8/10 times for a rack or bench. Speaking of benches, there are a criminally low amount for the amount of people they let in. I have a feeling a lot of people “sneak” in which as a result makes the gym 100x more packed. West Hollywood location is loads better than this one and you should avoid this one unless you take pleasure in waiting 10+ minutes to squat or bench. Only reason it’s getting 2 stars is because of the decent shop they have of supplements.

It's too bad the operators allow this place to be so unsanitary all of the time. The place is open 24 hrs and it doesn't appear any real cleaning or straightening up occurs overnight. We go early in the morning and paper towels and hand sanitizers are often empty. The free weights are in complete disarray. There is a lot of old equipment that could use some serious maintenance. I've been a 24 hr fitness member for well over 20 years and this is disappointing.

Price is great. But. I preferred when I paid more. Since covid, 24h fitness is terrible, this place particularly

Dryer is broken and will not be fixed, lockets room is dirty, smell is sauna/steamer.

Lockers room was like on the picture when I arrived, and when I left (1h between)

Unhoused and mentally ill people frequent this location. People sleep in the Dance Studio, Sauna, Pool benches or even in the main common areas if there is a power plug available to charge their iPhones and watch Netflix. There is some guy who will hang up a sheet and cover the light in a shower stall and stay in there for hours using all the hot water. There is another tweaker who disassembles the shower fixtures routinely and another one that destroys the bathroom stalls daily throwing all the paper everywhere. I see men swimming in the pool in their sheer wet underwear in front of women, the showers and locker room are littered with discarded clothing, ripped open packaging and half used toiletries from the pervious days shoplifting spree.

I don't think it would be that difficult to identify the worst offenders with a little effort and ban them but there doesn't seem to be any desire to do so.

Dingy. Filthy. Maybe they should close it for like an hour to clean the place and fix all of the broken equipment, plumbing, locker room furnishings, etc.

I have used fitness clubs for decades and have also been in the business. The 24 hour in Santa Monica on 31st is the dirtiest, nastiest place I have ever used. Having been there several times, I can sat “gross”. Floors are filthy, equipment is extreme worn out. Floors look like they need deep cleaning and sanitizing. Last 2 times I used, sanitizing stations had no paper towels and sanitizing solution was “out”. When I reached for a towel on one morning, the front cover fell off and nearly landed on a person on the stretching Matt. Repulsive place. When pointing out glaring problems, the three women behind the counter were ambivalent. Dates used were May 16- 19,2023. I also used during September 2022 for a few days. Yuck! Never again.

Someone here stole my AirPods. Also saw someone hog an entire machine for an hour and fifteen minutes.

Lots of broken or damaged equipment. Bathrooms are nasty. And no matter what time a day it is, extremely crowded. You can’t do everything you want to do at this location. This place needs a lot of work done to it. Just being honest

The faculty is nice and the location is right near work if ut was not for that i would never go back to this location.

The mens locker rooms are filthy nearly every morning i arrive before 6am and there is already trash, spilled powders hair on the floor.

The showers: i dont think i have ever seen a time that the shower didn't hve mold on the grout in the tile or bandaids on the floor. The machine to spin dry swim suits is broken and has trash in it. The shower heads are usually clogged from calcium build up
And all of the wood on the lockers is swollen from moisture.

The saune is absolutely disgusting there is a sign on the door that says no shoes but no one listens you can tell because all the wood in the dry sauna is nearly black with dirt. And the wood planks are falling apart and coming unscrewed.

The location is perfect but if they dont get their employees to clean better im going to have to cancel my membership

Choose a different gym unless your idea of a good gym is waiting in lines to use machines. This one is way too crowded. Used to have an outdoor space that allowed members to spread out and work out. Now they have half the space with the same amount of members.

It is the best gym in the area! Even beating gold's gym and planet fitness. It has the best facilities and the exercise equipment is modern. It has a swimming pool, which the other gyms do not.
They just need more staff at reception and cleaning and that's it
