The gym should post signs that back packs and duffle bags must be stored in lockers instead of the gym floors. Members are setting their duffel bags next to equipment to reserve the equipment for themselves but the member is nowhere to be seen. It’s extremely inconsiderate. Today I went to the cable machine and I saw a back pack but no member, so I started using it. The member shows up 5 minutes into my set and points to his bag indicating that he was “on the equipment “. This is pretty standard behavior at this location. I probably won’t renew my membership.

UPDATE Just went this morning (Sunday) and the guy at the front desk didn't say one word to us or even acknowledge us both when we arrived and left, was just reading his book or was on his phone. Would be nice for the employees to greet the members.

Old equipment and drinking fountains falling apart. They also had a new water filter, then it broke, then it was gone altogether. Not sure why? This club still needs a lot of maintenance so it's in good shape for its members.

Conveniently located, great parking, alot of classes offered, plenty of room with many machines and free weights.
Need new row machines.
The front desk staff is 50-50 with welcomong and friendliness vibe.
Please give some attention to the women's locker room.
Restrooms disgusting.
Perhaps hourly checks to actually clean.

It’s one of the worst gyms I’ve been to. The equipment is old and falling apart. Bathrooms are filthy and not cleaned up often. And it smells when you walk in, like something is burning. Can’t believe no one else has complained about the smell here!

Went from 24 hour mission valley to 24 hour hillcrest real quick, feel like I’m in hillcrest at the gym. Feels weird to even use the Locker rooms

No pool, no basketball courts, no sauna, but they have the equipment you need and I like the crowd there.

This location is full with bunch of people who goes there to only socialize and play on their phone while holding machines and wasting other's precious time. I was so sick today waiting on a machine again this guy was on his phone for 25 minutes and than he started to socialize with his friends and after played a while on his phone while i was waiting for the machine. I walk up to the front desk and escalated to the manager name called scott greene and he was incredibly rude! He told me there is nothing he can do and he got super upset to for no reason instead of helping the situation. Manager scott told me some gyms are cheaper than others for a reason and you get what you paid for. I mean what a ridiculous customer service, if you would call this a customer service. I asked him to cancel my membership and he started to raise his voice to me and said he will be more than happy to cancel. This gym doesn't deserve your money nor your time if you plan to enroll. Help yourself and enroll somewhere at least more apologetic and have empathy towards your frustration. I am sure i am not a big loss for 24 but some other gum will get my business and i am sure they will be happy to!

They only accept Americans. As a foreigner you’re not allowed. I can’t believe this is legal. I’m in San Diego for a few months from abroad and they wouldn’t let me in without an San Diego/American ID or proof of residence. Not sure why my money isn’t as valid as someone else’s, I would’ve happily paid for a few months here.

This seems like a discriminatory practice.

*UPDATE*

With how busy this gym gets during peak hours, corporate should REALLY consider consolidating both Mission Valley locations and taking over the long vacant Macy’s building, or the soon to be vacant Bed Bath and Beyond building! Creating another Super Sport or an Ultra Sport (none in SD) would be beneficial!

I don’t understand why there are so many complaints about this gym! It’s a gym; it has treadmills, ellipticals, TRX training, ropes, and all the machines and weights you’d hope to find in a gym. Regardless of whether or not machines are new or old, you can still work out here for an hour or two and be satisfied with the outcome! It should be the effort you put into your workout that determines the outcome, don’t blame the gym!

With that said, it would be appreciated if people would consistently wipe down their machines after use! Sweat, although minimal at times, does linger on a machine if not wiped down!

Thanks

Has all the basics and it smells less like old sweat and feet than the Balboa location. The free weights, benches, and cable machines are all fine, but the other machines are hit or miss or are out of order for weeks at a time. It is also disappointing that they do not have a gender neutral bathroom available.

The company "responds" to reviews but does absolutely nothing to make changes. Obviously very corporate and you get what you pay for.

This place is convenient for me - as I live in North Park. Ive been going here for 6 years. And it's cheaper than the gyms IN North Park.

Unfortunately this is one of the 24Hr Fitness spots that is NOT actually 24 hours. It closes at 10 during the week and has pretty early closing hours for weekends. The equipment is cleaned regularly as are the bathrooms and showers.

Diversified weights but some challenges that all big gyms have:

Elliptical machines - some "click" or "snap" as you step. There are many machines, but some need maintenance and their approach seems more - let it break all the way. Then we"ll fix it.

The water fountains have been im disrepair since ive been going - there are 2 sets of dual fountains and the far right one is broken for each set. Also the actual button to receive water is broken on the other.

When machines do break (seated leg press, hip abductor) it takes a while for them to be fixed.

Medicine balls (the big puffy inflated balls for crunches. Etc) aren't maintained well. Those things don't work if they're not inflated all the way. If they're soft/deflated there's no point - they're not doing what they're supposed to for you.

The staff is either unwilling or unable to change the channel of televisions. There's a television that's been frozen on the same screen/image for over a week - staff seem to just ignore it.

I know the Covid's over but the sanitizing liquid and the paper towels run out often. They're not replaced very often. There used to be a table with those supplies, While that seems unnecessary now, the individual stations run out.

I complained that the radio is too loud. Even when wearing noise cancelling ear buds the music (and the 24hr Fitness commercials which are 50% louder) are intrusive when listening to my own music. I asked the manager, Scott Green, to turn it down to background music. I argued that 90% of people already have something in their ears so they don't want to hear it also. He responded that 'they can't turn it down for one customer's request'. He missed the point.this one customer, PLUS 90% of the other people, don't want to hear it. Seems that should be a slam dunk for customer relations but, no, this week he had turned it up louder! I won't be going there until this is fixed.

Customer service definitely not up to par.

They dont take care their patrons that is local to the area. I asked if they offer a 3 day pass or at least a day to test out the gym since its the closest to my home. They said no, including the manager that gave me a racist vibe (His entire crew is not diverse as well). Anyways, so I end up paying 15 bucks to try their gym. They only have few equipments, and not upgraded as well. Not worth my 15 dollars at all.

Overall, they are more about the money than actually helping people or taking care of their patrons. Im definitely not coming back.

Poorly maintained. 1 of the 4 water stations are functional. Seems the urinals always leak and have a puddle. A few of Sinks in bathroom don't work, staff at front desk busy on their cell phones at times. No music in the gym. Broken foot straps on exercise bikes, TV on the same channel for 3 years in locker room (nba package direct tv screen)

Update: 4/3/23
Water stations still down, no greeting from front desk.

I love this gym but today was super uncomfortable I went to use the bathroom and there was a lady completely naked drying her hair and body with the hand dryer my girlfriend went in first and told me I wanted 30 min later and I went she was still in there getting ready naked! Please put a sign on to at least have a towel on.

Most of the workout crazies call this 24 the Factory. This is where you come to either begin, start over, or rehab injuries. The staff is always nice and it is very convenient to get a 45 min to an hr workout in.

I was a 30-year member of the Hillcrest facility, a place I could walk to and see friend/regulars. When it closed during Covid, I went to the outdoor Mission Valley outdoor facility. It was OK all things considered.
But when Hillcrest closed permanently and Mission Valley reopened inside I realized just how awful this place is (especially in comparison with Hillcrest).
The Mission Valley facility is a dungeon. It's dark - no natural light and very little artificial light to compensate. Don't let the promo photos fool you - all that light is gone. The place is an effing dungeon.
Pre-Covid, when I worked out at Hillcrest, I could do drop-sets on a different body part every day. Not in Mission Valley. There really isn't enough free-weight equipment here for those of us who need it. (No 30# barbells?)
Finally, I know that every 24 Hour franchise is different, but I just can't find the same sort of equipment / machines I used at Hillcrest at Mission Valley. There probably are equivalents, but once I stumble around in the dark and find a POS similar machine, it's being used by other folks who have migrated to Mission Valley after their own neighborhood facilities have been closed.
I want to continue my membership with 24 Hour Fitness, but my absolute disgust with the Mission Valley facility's lack of available equipment, and it's dungeon-darkness without any sort of workout music, makes me question my membership.
I really miss my daily workouts, but I effing hate trying to work out at the Mission Valley dungeon.
