5 Tacos and Beers, Albany CA

This place was recommended by my fiancée and we enjoyed every minute being here with friends

Went here for the first time on Monday for date night with my wife. I called in early to reserve a table for outside since we had our dog with us. When we got there, it was pretty quiet so there was no wait (also probably because it was pretty cold that night). The heaters were on, and that was a plus!

We chips and salsa, the 5 tacos for the table to share, an item off the Meatless Monday menu, then finished with the churros and ice cream for dessert. All the while, I got a beer and my wife got sangria. The food was AWESOME. The tacos were tasty and different, and the salsa and chips were fresh. Out of the 5 tacos, the only one we agreed we didn't like was the fish taco - it was a bit on the saltier side. Overall, we had a great experience. We are planning to come back very soon with some friends.

I guess they also have a rewards program, but not everybody knows that. It would be worth asking if you are thinking about being a regular patron!

The only negative was that we had ordered hot chocolates with dessert, but they never came, so we got them taken off the order before paying. Also, it was pretty cold out so if you were not sitting directly next to a heater, your back will chill very quickly.

Had a great casual dinner here with my hubby - chicken flautas for appetizer and we each tried different tacos with GREAT beers! Very friendly waitress, too, in spite of them being at full capacity on a busy Friday night. Really fun selection of beers and menu, will be back to check out the happy hour and Taco Tuesdays!

I had lunch here and I ordered shrimp Ceviche. I have had Ceviche more times than I can count, but not from Taco and Beer. The shrimp was slimy with a gray color to them. I mentioned to the waitress and told her I couldn’t eat it. She refused to take it back and would not take it off my bill. Her response was “the manager is not here so I can’t take this off the bill”.
She did not offer to rectify the issue. I asked for more limes so I could try to marinate the shrimp and complete the curing process at home. She brought me extra limes in a paper bag, which of course leaked out.
This was a horrible experience and I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone.
My coworker took me for lunch and I felt terrible that he had to pay for this meal.

Delicious Taco and beers. Bottomless mimosas where a little slow coming so stay on top of this.

One of the best Mexican restaurants in Berkeley so far. The food is great even though the portion size is on the smaller side. Totally worth every penny.

OMG! These tacos were so good. I had a ribeye taco and a short rib taco. Taco options change each month, so get there before December to try these 2. So tender and juicy. There is so much flavor. The kind of tacos you daydream about. 2 hours later, and I can't stop thinking about them. I'm in love. The staff was awesome, too.

Avocado toast was delicious. But please serve it on a plate. Sunny side up eggs need to be on a plate with a lip. Even aside from that, stuffs all falling off the board and getting onto the table. Also the bread is too thick and needs a steak knife to cut through it. You should just serve it with the steak knife.

Service was very very slow.

Seriously good tacos and a decent selection of beers. The quesabirria beef tacos are 5 stars all by themselves!

I love this place for a quick sit-down. Service is fast and you can sit outside. Outside there are heaters and plants. Great for people watching and very relaxed. Food comes out very fast and the beer selection is excellent. This is my go-to place for a date or evening of relaxation with some tacos and beers.

Great outdoor seating on a sunny day, and the tacos burst with bright, sophisticated and richly varied flavors. Excellent vegan options: the future!

Awesome customer service and food! Love the ambiance and selection of tequila, mezcal, and even “Mexican” whiskey. If you haven’t been here, you’re missing out!

I’ve become a regular here at the Berkeley spot on College All the food here is made from scratch and is above and beyond! Vegan options as well! I’m not vegan but I love vegan food done right. The quesabirria vegan is delicious as much as any of their other food! Also if you order the Guacamole Chips an Salsa, you get extra chips and salsa. Great beer list and margaritas too! And you can watch the game at the bar!

I was looking forward to experiencing this place. Arrived with a friend today, first impression - great decor, spacious and great ambiance. Staff was very friendly. Plenty of seating options; outdoor, restaurant and bar. Sat down and commenced our order: the taco sampler 5x, potato flautas and chips. Order came out in about 10 minutes.

Verdict? I have to qualify this by saying I had just flown in from Mexico City…. But I have to say poor is generous. Pastor, chicken, asado, carnitas - super bland and over cooked. The flautas, no flavor. Salsa was ok. I have to imagine it’s because of the location, Solano Ave in Albany - conservative palette. The standout for me was the shrimp taco, that was realz good.kinda pricey, each taco was about $6, I was getting WAY better in Mexico City at 60 cents a taco. It is what it is, I heard they have good live music there, I may revisit for a beer and to check out a band

Meatless Monday had a surprisingly large amount of meat on the menu, and unlike it's namesake only a single vegan taco was available. I've seen and had better experiences in the past and this was a disappointing one, though the food and atmosphere were still solid.
