A J Spurs Saloon & Dining Hall, Buellton CA

We live down the street, we have frequented this restaurant very often. I’m so bummed out that the quality of food and consistency has plummeted, while prices have gone up. I know things are expensive nowadays, so I get the price increase. That isn’t my complaint. It’s the fact that everytime we go, it’s a coin toss on if it will be good or not. The last time we went (which will literally be our last time), we ordered a 10oz fillet, to split, and when it came out, it was pork. What’s worse, is when it was cut in half, one side was white, and the other side was purple. The salad my friend ordered was incorrect, and the gentleman that goes around and clears plates and bowls, tried to take our dishes 3x while we were still eating (a very nice guy by the way). Out of exhaustion, we let him take them on the fourth ask, but with a pot of soup and beans on the table still, we were relegated to dipping into to the pot with our spoons. The manager was so high when I told her, she had 0 emotion. She did comp our meal, which I appreciated, but I told her that we didn’t want anything for free. There are too many good places to eat on the central coast. We don’t want to spend $130 on dinner and have a horrible experience. So sad, because we loved that place

Western americana bar/restaurant with delicous bbq and great atmosphere. Dog friendly restaurant so long as ur dogs dont bark or disturb others.
Our family enjoyed ribeye steak, ribs and calarmari steak. Your'e full before you recieve your meal.

Went here this last weekend to have a nice Filet Mignon. We ordered 2 Filets. One medium rare and one medium. The medium rare came out cooked properly. And the medium one came out practically raw. It was purple inside and the wait staff took forever to come back to the table so I just took it home and finished cooking it at home.
If you want a good filet, go east a block and go to the Hitching Post. They know how to cook meat! Don't waste your money here.

This is the finest dining experience I have ever had. The food is first rate and the ambiance and design of the restaurant is incredibly stunning in it’s beauty. Great service from the staff and the owner is very friendly. Highly recommended!

Fantastic food reasonable prices huge portions every table gets a wonderful vegetable stew with black beans and salsa delicious every time I'm in the area it's a must go to and the ambience is really cool

The petite fillet was dry-aged 21 days. Melt-in-your-mouth delicious! The artichoke appetizer was far better than I imagined. We always dine @ A J Spurs when in Buellton. We will be back!

Excellent, we weren't a lil early since we hadn't eaten all day and we're very glad we did. I guess to can say we opened the place being we were the first ones there. You can't go wrong with the soup and beans to start. A nice chilled salad lead our perfectly cooked and seasoned steaks. Closing was a root beer float and some delicious vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup.

Have been coming here every time we visit Solvang for over 30 years. Our favorite place but not anymore. Horrible food & poor service. Ordered ribeye special with shrimp & pork ribs. Got New York steak. Then got ribeye & it was rare. Was taken back to cook more but still came out rare. Pork ribs were burnt Order of beef ribs so burnt couldn’t eat them. Manager first offered to take off cost of beef ribs & 30% off of the 2 specials. However by the time the steaks came back our meal had been ruined so all we wanted was to leave. When we told the manager again how unhappy we were she just stood looking at us. Finally we offered to pay for our salads & drinks. Cost us $41 for a horrible experience.

We have dined there many times over the years which was at one time an upscale cowboy type very good food, great service, clean and fun theme. Somehow lost their way as it’s gone downhill in virtually every way. Not going back to it or the Hitching Post. Red Barn in Santa Ynez is now our go to restaurant. There’s probably several others much better in the Santa Ynez Valley. Hopefully it’s sold to someone who understands quality and brings it back to it’s former heyday.

We hadn't been here in a long time so it was disappointing when the memories are so much better than the food.
I had the combo ribs, with the beef ribs dry. The spare ribs were overcooked and the beef ribs had no seasoning. My wife and aunt had a filet and a sirloin steak and both had no seasoning at all.
Central coast is full of great steak houses so AJ has lost me.

Lots of food and food was great. Included with dinner soup was the best. Loved the Bleu Cheese on the included with dinner salad. 16 oz rib eye. Cut like a fillet. Appears I got 2 ten ouncers. It was the best. And a root beer float for dessert included with meal. Wish I had a place like this where l live.

First time for my husband and third time for me. Told my husband he's gonna love his dinner. He didn't quite believe me as to how good his dinner is going to be. He took one spoon full of the soup and fell in love. Said he had the best dinner he's ever had.

This site had good food but not up to my memory of A. J. Spurs. Our steak had no flavor and their soup was different and not as good as before. The staff were great.

Great food with a lot of pre food appetizers included in price. The ambiance is fabulous, old style Western stuff, just like the surrounding area. Service was great, and my 10oz Filet was center cut, cooked to perfection, and so tender it reminded me of a steak from Kansas City, where I grew up. Give it a go and you'll enjoy it!

The restaurant we planned on dining at was closed and we ended up at AJ Spurs and the experience could not have been better. The guests in our party of 8 ranged from 7 years old to 94 years old and everyone had a great time and left satisfied.

The food was stellar and abundant and there is no better value for your money. They make sure you leave full and happy. The atmosphere cant be beat. Highly recommend!

AJ Spurs was such a great find on our way up the coast. Bartenders Mandy and Chris took great care of us with exceptional service! The atmosphere was cozy and woodsy with real artifacts that made it feel like a destination. Food was tasty and in great proportions. We ordered a steak bites appetizer with an add-on shrimp. So yummy! We will definitely stop here again on our next trip!

We've been going to AJ Spurs in Buellton for over 20 years. It is wonderful every time.

Food was tasty. The prices are a bit out of control. Way to high for what you get. My server seemed that she was mad at me and my family, since we got there. I was mot the o ly person that senses this. A older gentleman that was sitting behind d us actually called her out on her attitude. All in all a ok experience.

Who knew soup was so good? It hits the table soon after your butt, served with chili beans and salsa, try mixing them.so good, though the beans on their own stand solid. I come here every time we visit Buellton. One of the few places that serve shortbreads. I have not had one thing off the menu that wasn't worth praising.
