Acme Bread, Berkeley CA

The bakery goods are worth 5 stars for sure! It's a Berkeley institution that is phenomenal at what they do.however the cashier staff were super rude! We didn't know exactly what we wanted so the one grabbing the goods made an audible gasp turned to the cashier laughed and said "oh they don't know what they want. " in a mocking tone.

Needless to say we ended up not getting everything we wanted because we felt rushed and left having a bad experience with those front house staff. Super unfortunate!

I wonder if Acme Bread is aware of the fact that they are 80% of what's keeping my mental health afloat during shelter in place? Anyways, I love going in and buying like four different kinds of buns here, because other places that sell Acme usually only have the big loaves, and the prices are suuuper reasonable.

The bread at acme bread is excellent, as always. They painted six foot apart hearts for social distancing while we were in line, and offered a big jug of hand sanitizer at the door. There is a new plexiglass barrier in front of the cashier, and you have to pay with a chip credit card, no touch of common surfaces required. So, it seems a pandemic safe way get excellent bread. The line is a bit slow, but worth the wait.

Acme Bread, very small on the inside, offers a solid variety of delicious bread items, such as cheese rolls, baguettes, pizza, and cinnamon twists. Acme offers these items at a slightly expensive price, although the quality is very high. However, the service is somewhat inconsistent and can be very very unfriendly at times, with COVID-19 guidelines being unilaterally imposed on only certain customers. For example, last December, one customer was rudely kicked out of line for being indecisive, even though she was not holding back the line. Additionally, on 6/22/20, our party of three was rudely kicked out despite being of the same household and all wearing masks, despite the fact that a party of two was allowed to enter in front of us. While I understand the necessity of following COVID-19 guidelines, these were a bit draconian and felt unfairly and rudely imposed on us.

Always fresh, old world style sourdough and traditional breads. Seasonally festive with varying specialties throughout the week. This bakery saved my wife’s love for bread due to a gluten sensitivity.

Sour bâtard is delicious but the croissants were dull. The inside was not chewy enough and was rather dry, and the sides felt like chewing rubber. Will go again for the rustic bread and skip the croissants unless it looks like they improved them.

I love the various breads from here. There is always a line but it goes fast so don't be deterred. I try something new everytime I go just for the fun of it. They also give a cash discount.

You'll be greeted with the most amazing smell of freshly baked bread as soon as you enter. Next you'll want to buy everything that you can spot coz you know.the smell. Go on and you won't be disappointed. Have tried many kinds of breads, buns and puffs and definitely recommend this place. Avoid going during rush hours and weekend mornings.

The bread is fantastic! The olive bread is out of this world. There are few bakeries of this quality anywhere.

One of the best local gems and a not-so-secret keeper. While it's true that you can get Acme bread at local groceries, Whole Foods, etc, you can't get the variety found here! It's cheaper and fresher, often hot from the oven! Baguettes however you like it: crusty, sweet, sourdough, rustic, Italian, herbed.you pick! Then there are delectable extras like ham & cheese turnovers, mini puffs with blueberry (or raspberry) compote & chocolate with a sprinkle of powdered sugar on top, butter croissants (plain or with chocolate), seasonal loaves like pumpkin bread, cranberry bread, olive & rosemary loaves.the list goes on and on. And just when you think you've tried it all, they come up with new delicacies that keeps you coming back.daily if you're lucky enough to live nearby. That's why the lines are long, but they move quickly, just like the yummiest breads in the bay area!

Love their bread! They have so many more choices at this retail store at cheaper price tags. Also they sell day old bread for half the price but you have to come early in a morning to get them since they sell fast.

This place has excellent bread and service. The line may look long but it goes really fast. On second thought don't come I want all the bread for myself.

People willingly and cordially stand in line just to buy from this great bread company. The tiny cafe attached sells gourmet (expensive) European breakfasts and great coffee also. Definitely a treat! Good variety of hearty, crusty loaves as well as some scones and pastries.

Great bread, one of the best French style bread you will find in California. They serve a large variety of bread and pastries. But they are so great with bread that everything they make looks and tastes like bread!

I have been purchasing bread from this place for many years because of bread is hot right out of the oven and it's wonderful and taste and the prices are real nice also and the customer service is exceptional
