Alcatraz Island reviews
15Alcatraz was the site of the first lighthouse in the Western United States but became a federal penitentiary from 1934 to 1963, housing famous convicts such as Al Capone and George "Machine Gun" Kelly. Now, this once infamous prison island is part of the Bay Area's 80,000-acre Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
Excellent experience, I recommend going to the night. The excursion lasts approximately one hour
Love the history! Good displays. Not stroller or wheelchair friendly, although they do have a tram for accessibility.
Very interesting. I liked the audio tour. Lots of uphill walking but they have a tram for those who need it. It's a bit pricey. Great views of Sanfran and the Golden gate bridge.
Alcadraz Island, which has been the subject of movies
You can take a tour around San Francisco Fishhermen with boats from the beach or visit the interior by joining tours.
This island, which was used as a prison for years, is now an island where excursions are organized as a tourist destination.
You can watch the island, which is unlikely to escape, in many movies.
Quite an experience to know the history of this prison. The ferry ride to get there is very beautiful.
It would be a good idea to watch the movie The Cost of Slavery and The Green Road, which took place under today's conditions.
Unique museum and grounds with an interesting guided audio tour. Beautiful views on and off the ferry. However, many areas are restricted off the main paths.
A tourist attraction in San Francisco, the most famous prison in the world had one of its best-known prisoners, Al Capone, an American gangster. To visit the island where the old prison is located, you need to take a ferry from Pier 33. The ticket includes an audio tour with a Portuguese version. Visiting time is free but be aware that the opening times for visiting in the winter and summer months are different. And always buy in advance as tickets sell out quickly.
Really really enjoyed the tour! It was an amazing experience and it was one of the things I wanted to do since I was a kid. The ticket includes a round trip with the ferry and everything on the island. Once you are there you are free to roam around wherever you want except the closed areas wich are unsafe. You have an audio tour of the cell blocks also which includes real audio footage. It is worth seeing it once in a lifetime and I totally recommend it!
Unmissable for its history. The movies that were filmed. La Roca is a place you have to visit
Admission is $45 per adult. If you know anything about the history of the prison, it is totally worth the visit and you will enjoy it very much.
Although the rules indicate that you cannot access the island with food or drink, the truth is that many people access it with food and/or drink and no one controls access.
Learned so much more than I thought I would. So interesting to hear it from former inmates and guards.
A breathtaking story.
This prison is legendary with a beautiful view of the port.
Helmet and visiting box very well explained and lots of testimonies from real prisoners.
Boat and Tour $60.
Let me say the tour was 5 star great place. However we parked across from the pier on the main road in less then 30 minutes we lost everything we had to theft. Police told me happens 50 times a day at this location! 50 times a day, I think I could stop it. They clearly don't want to in San Francisco, shame on them.
Just beware this place is BAD.
