Alma's Place reviews
8I had the most pleasure to meeting Ms. Alma at her restaurant the food was very scrumptious
I went in for the first time a few days ago. I have NEVER been so welcomed and felt like I was at home, as I felt when I was here. The food was very delicious! Everything was on point! Make sure to leave room for dessert. This is why I'm leaving my review up until now. I'm looking to see if they are open again I'm not from southern California and happened to be passing by. I'll definitely be back very soon.
Yes! I finally got some soul food that tasted like its supposed to! I felt like I was back home in the south! Delicious
Everything was delicious. Catfish and wings were nice and crispy and seasoned well. Mac was fire and the best greens I ever had.
The food is so good the cornbread is delicious the chicken is on point the potato salad and yams and macaroni and cheese were so good
I Love This Place. Alma the Owner is hands on and it's Family Operated. The staff is awesome and the food and desserts are to die for. Everything is delicious and the portions are nice.
The atmosphere was decent, however I felt like it was missing something. Owner said that Food Network came over and redecorated the place. I also understand that I came here on opening day. My mother and I wanted to support a black business since we got takeout each weekend. The lady who took our order was very nice and recommended us some dishes. These are the only reasons I give this restaurant 2 stars instead of 1. That being said, let's get into the food.
I came here with my mother, I ordered chicken and waffles, and a large mango lemonade. Mom ordered the Pumpkin's special, which came with salmon croquettes and eggs and also got a side order of grits. We also got a Red Velvet Cake slice for later. The waffles were basically the kind served for breakfast or lunch occasionally at public schools, it was microwaved and most definitely not homemade at all. The chicken, ooooohhh the chicken. Not sure if it was safe to eat. It was slimy between the breading and meat and still very pink on the inside! Smelled like fish too. Mind you they took 1 hour to prepare this food. The grits were watery, bland, and had a hint of dishwashing liquid. The eggs and biscuits were very meh. My lemonade was like type 2 diabetes in a bottle! Way, way too sweet. I could barely take a few sips and when I handed it to my mom to taste she said 'damn! ' And finally when we had the cake, Mom said the cake was good but honestly I disagree.
Overall I would not recommend coming to the restaurant at it's current state. Their cookies were out of stock and that seems like what Alma's is known for so if you do plan on coming then I suggest you only look at the bakery options because the other food is not it!
I’m sorry I love supporting my black people but I didn’t like the yams you can tell they were canned the greens were canned too but they had a nice taste to them so I can’t complain I tried some of my man fries they were bomb! The chicken was good as well if I come back I most likely will get just chicken and fries, and they were out of potato salad so I didn’t get to try it overall I give it a 3 stars
