Best of the Best …. Dr Caffarelli and his entire team are the “Gold Standard “ of cardiac care …. I’m living proof!
3 months ago I was living my best life, on vacation in Hawaii, meeting my first granddaughter Ryan & swimming 4 miles in the Ocean. Within weeks it was determined that I had a Heart attack & major coronary artery disease, with a twist. I had a congenital defect in my RCA, making things much worse. My was life was in peril and my wife of 35 years Beth and our 4 children’s world was instantly turned upside down. I consulted with two top Cardiologist, both instantly recommended Dr Caffarelli without reservation. My wife and I met with Dr Caffarelli for over an hour, he detailed everything that was wrong and how he would make it right. We left that meeting with knowledge and the confidence that we had found our team. The entire team assisted us (held our hands) in all the pre op procedures, they all cared for us. The surgery went exactly as described, I followed the instruction to the tee. I was out of the hospital in 4 days and back at work in 4 weeks. I’m so grateful for the care and compassion that Dr Caffarelli and his team bestowed on me …. I getting stronger every day and guarantee I will make the most out of my second chance to live my best life.
Mahalo Team Caffarelli, the Ryans owe you all a debt of gratitude.

My Aunt also died following surgery with Dr. Caffarelli. What we learned about her death was shocking and incomprehensible. Dr. Caffarelli chose to add on a completely unnecessary procedure right before my Aunt's surgery. This was a risky procedures that he had very little experience with and of course he botched the procedure and cut a hole in her heart that he could never repair. She lasted 2.5 days in the ICU before she died. After her death, we had her medical records reviewed by numerous cardiac surgeons, nationwide, who all said that this case is a tragedy and should never have happened. Not one surgeon that reviewed the medical records sided with Dr. Caffarelli. To make matters worse, Hoag couldn't care less and chose to ignore us rather than talk to us. However, they did acknowledge (after more than a year) that after a review it appears that there were "opportunities to improve" care and that Dr. Caffarelli was up for peer review. We believe, based upon the facts, that adding on the procedure at the last minute was an ego driven decision that was more important to Dr. Caffarelli than the welfare of his patient. Being a good surgeon is not just knowing what to do but also knowing what not to do. Because of decisions like this, our family cardiologist refuses to refer patients to Dr. Caffarelli or anyone in his group at Hoag. Because of inquiries about this case, a new website will soon be available with all of the facts. For now, unfortunately, looking at his reviews here, it appears that something like this has happened before with this physician. You have other choices. Choose wisely. Your life depends on it.

I’m posting this even as my wife is recovering nicely at Hoag Newport. Total emergency aortic dissection with the aorta torn top to bottom. A miracle she didn’t die before reaching OR and Dr. Caffereli. He and his team worked all night and less than a week later she will be going home! Skill, professionalism with amazing explanations that calmed my heart. I could go on but I’m just glad for the forum to sing his praises.
3 am I meet him after coming out of saving my wife’s life “Hi, I’m Tony”.
