Autry Museum of the American West reviews
12 I was happily surprised at how much I enjoyed myself.
There was a display on the American West I believe and it was great!
This is an excellent location, right off the I-5. It is a very lovely venue, both inside and outside, pleasing to the eye and mind. Staff and docents were extremely welcoming and helpful. There are a broad variety of exhibits, something for everybody. I was especially interested in the Native American Art and its commentary on contemporary history and culture. Also, the information and displays about indigenous craft and art were valuable. Overall there is a great variety of information about the history and development of the west. I plan to return and learn more.
About two or three exhibits were closed due to renovations, but other than that, i enjoyed learning about California's western history. It's not that big of a museum but still informative. It's only $7 & children from 0-12, I believe, are free. They have a little outdoor space with "rocking horses" kids will enjoy. Their griffin park exhibit is kid friendly. There's an area in that exhibit with a little play house & books for kids to enjoy. So it's a nice little hidden gem within griffin park.
I like the autrey but if your planning a visit some of there exhibits are closed for renovations (movie and tv area) so call ahead for availability. It has great exhibits for everyone.
Wonderful museum w friendly staff. Very interesting exhibits and plenty for a history-loving-4-year-old to do and learn. Was pleasantly surprised at all the kid friendly activities. Highly recommend!
If you have any interest in the American West, the Autry is a place for you. A wonderful collection of artifacts from the "Ol' West" including Billy the Kid's rifle and a great collection of Colts. This is truly a hidden gem of Southern California
Wow, first time here and it was a wealth of cool Cali knowledge! Billy the Kid, Annie Oakley, Tongva! Who knew. Definitely recommend, place was easy parking, not crowded, was able to stroll to any exhibit, take my time and read all the interesting history behind where I live and the America west.
Fabulous place to get educated on the West. Exhibitions are great for you & your family or your friends. Looking to go there again.
Cute little scavenger hunt for kids. Bought my tickets on Groupon. The theme is to pay homage to indigenous people. Lots of great Native American ar and artifacts. Also lots of western history there as well. Enjoyed it with the family kids aged 7 and 6 were entertained for a bit. Definitely think it is more of an adult museum but kids are welcomed here! Great way to teach some History to the young ones!
Mostly unimpressed with the picture of the Gene Autry statue wearing a mask on the museum's website. It's rather pathetic and disrespectful to such a great man and film legend.
Great western museum with smart and well designed exhibits. Veterans get in for free otherwise the cost is reasonable. Right across from the Los Angeles Zoo.
Take your time going here, every item is so interesting you have to about it. They use to have Country Western Concerta here. If your interested in the West come here and Enjoy.
