Avis Car Rental reviews
16Horrible experience. The vehicles key fob was dead so I replaced the battery but still didn’t work so alarm goes off each time I unlock vehicle. The Jeep smokes terribly out the exhaust enough I was stopped to make sure I knew there was an issue. Assumed they would give the same level of vehicle but would not honor the rental and state of the vehicle. Safety is not a priority and horrible customer experience. Stay away
Horrible experience on 12/6 with Steve at the Santa Barbara airport around 1: 30-2pm. He was unkind, defensive, and rude right from the beginning. Gives me a dirty car, with high mileage, tank 1/4 full and lots of dents (does not match contract in the slightest). I come back inside to explain the situation and he makes me wait in the entire line again- apparently in which now he has now given away all other possible vehicles and I will have to wait if I want to see what else comes in. He was very rude not once understanding of my situation that he created. Please note that I did have a reservation, but was not a preferred member (in which he was being incredibly kind to and gave all sorts of priority).
Stay Away! The people who work here are unkind and dishonest. Life is too short to put up with this type of behavior: Yuck!
Everything went amazing with my visit. The line was quick and efficient, my vehicle was great and the service provided my the employees was the best I've seen. I believe it was the manager, but he was extremely good at his job.
I booked a car and got to the counter they told me they turn away one day reservation. They only way to get a car i had to pay more. Its like your forced to pay more. Would i use avis again no. On the good hand the employee on the counter was nice and the car was clean.
The car was not washed, it was dirty. It had over 50K miles on it it. Should not have been in service. Multiple dents, knicks, scratches, etc. Also, I had switched my card at check in but the charges were settled to my original card.
The Mazda CX5 that I received was dirty inside and didn't look like it had been cleaned. The back seat had something that was blue that I was able to simply wipe off with some paper towels. Seems like it would have been an easy clean? Makes me wonder if the car was sanitized before I received it? Also, I did not receive the vehicle with a full tank of gas but expected to return it with a full tank of gas. The Apple Car play sucked on this car. It was VERY glitchy like the software on the car needed to be updated but nobody ever took it in to get it updated. When I turned in the vehicle the person at the counter was very nice and pleasant. When I told them about my issues with the car they apologized and said they were short-staffed. I understand we are all short-staffed right now, but not offering anything to help make up for the issues that I had was very surprising. It's like, oh well we don't have enough people so live with it. I must say the rental car lot at SBA is super close and very convenient.
Terrible customer service - pre-booked online and waited 20 min in line only to find out they did not have my car reserved and seemingly were essentially sizing me up to fit to a smaller vehicle than reserved. Then upon trying to process the cc hold, the representative tried once and then said it didn’t go through and to “see if I had another card, someone local in town to call, or to transfer funds. ” what? ! This card I used at the airport, at the hotel and other locations that day - this is the only location it didn’t apparently work at (likely just needed to be rerun to pick it up properly in system) and so they said they could not rent me a car. Literally then said there was nothing else they could do and I would have to go online myself to cancel and that the car would should as not picked up and could get refunded. Well - I went to the website and it told me that It would not be refunded to which now I have an email out for request with no response time in sight.
I was not able to pick up the car and was not offered any other helpful alternative - only a “have fun doing…whatever, today” comment. I realize we are all doing our best here but this was such an incredibly unwelcoming and unfriendly service - I felt judged and “sized up” for lack of a better term as being a female by herself at the counter requesting an SUV that had been reserved and then on top of that could not even pick up the reserved car - what’s the point of pre-check-in then? Disappointing and unacceptable- and I still do not have any word on being refunded…and still feel very uncomfortable from the whole interaction and experience -
So very please with my Toyota 4-Runner. I was recently traveling on business and requested the 4-Runner because of the cargo space. The agents in Santa Barbara made it happen. My car was waiting my arrival, the keys were handed off and so was I. Twenty-six days later I dropped my vehicle at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix, Arizona. Thanks for making such an important piece of my trip enjoyable!
Unbelievably slow service and long lines. I booked a car 3 weeks in advance and when I showed up, they didn't have it ready and tried to upsell me to a more expensive one. Had to sit around at the airport doing nothing waiting for them to get a car in. Unacceptable. Don't give them your money.
Had to make a sudden change to a flight schedule last week and fly into Santa Barbara airport. After I made my flight change I logged onto my Avis app and rented a car to be picked up at the Santa Barbara airport. When our flight got in to the airport just before 7 PM we discovered that the Avis car rental counter was unoccupied. When we called the Avis customer service the person we spoke with informed us that the location was closed and that if we wanted a car we could come back the following morning. I explained to them that the purpose of renting the car was to get home that night. The CSR basically told us tough luck if you want a car come back tomorrow morning. Fortunately the Hertz counter right next to Avis was open and they had a car available for us to rent. Because of this experience we have terminated both our business and personal car rental relationships with Avis.
Dakota helped me out when my plane was running a little late. He went above and beyond to make sure I had a car when I landed. So thankful for his helpfulness and willingness to do all he could! I will always use Avis when traveling into Santa Barbara!
Car was ready on arrival, the model of car was as advertised, the process for picking up the keys and car were easy.
Wow just returned a rental today five hours early (had to leave it in an Avis spot at the airport as the return lot is unstaffed, I deposited the keys in the box inside). It was a prepaid rental. After I got home I received an emailed receipt with a $250 “misc fee” plus taxes that amounted to almost $375; I can see the pending charges on my credit card. I had the car for less than 24h and had driven it between two airports with a stop at a hotel for the night. The car was returned with a full tank and in the exact same condition I received it the night before. Am now wasting hours of my time disputing this fee with Avis and my credit card company with no direct way to contact this location since their phone number just goes to a corporate call center.
Avis is always my preferred company to use when renting a vehicle. I feel like I always get a good deal, and I don't get nickel-and-dimed to death with extra charges and offers of upgrades. I especially love that they don't charge for an additional driver like most other companies do. On this last trip, they switched us from a Kia to a hybrid Prius for no extra charge, and we saved a ton of money on gas. I thought the fuel gauge was broken at first because we drove around for two days and it was still on full.
Very convenient location inside the terminal by baggage claim and car pickup right outside the terminal. Representative at the desk was very kind and helpful. Drop-off was a bit confusing as no one was outside and we weren't sure what to do. The car was a Toyota Corolla and it was pretty basic, but it got great gas mileage.
