Fresno airport. The line was 70-90 minutes long and they have no preferred line or options to skip the line and pick it up at the lot.

Keyless entry did not work to lock or unlock car. Locked it using the remote to come back and find my backpack with computer and wallet stolen.

Bad customer service. Extra charges if you don't pay attention, and the car looked like it was on the tail end of retirement. Two stars because: 1. I got a car and it worked. 2. The woman who checked my car in corrected the extra gas charge.

INSURANCE & CUSTOMER SERVICE
Donavan rented me the car he was curt to the point it felt rude. He had a take it or leave it attitude.
He charged me for extra services/products for liability, loss damage waiver, personal accident insurance, personal effects protection. I told him I don't think I need these are they required? He said, yes (again totally rude and curt). Though it seemed wrong, I wanted away from him and the situation. He ended with a curt: If you don't return the car full we'll charge you $9+ ZERO customer servie skills.
Later I confirmed he overcharged me because I didn't need the extra charges.

GAS
Between the rental experience and the condition of the car, I had a bad feeling about Avis. So, I arrived early for my flight to return my car and have time.

I asked the Avis employee to please confirm that I am returning a full tank. She said, no you are 1/4 tank low. I turned the car on and had her look inside. This woman who helped me was polite and did take care of the charge. I wonder what would have happened if I did what customers next to me did: "We are running late. Can we just leave the car? "

Everyone gets what they want. I wanted a rental car, and for my sins they gave me one. Eventually.

The AVIS rental car experience at the Fresno airport is like a vortex into hell. The line goes on forever and does not move. There are three different rental car businesses in one little outlet with a single employee (who should be paid about 1,000% of what she is probably paid). People in line are openly weeping because they have either missed their plane or they are about to; it is insane.

BEWARE-THIS PLACE IS AWFUL!

Update: Moved to 3 stars, which means no one will ever see this because we all look at 1 and 5 start reviews mostly, but AVIS did reach out to us after my initial 1 star review and refunded me about a third of my $2K. I had prepaid in advance for a premium SUV for a 2 week trip that was dropping off at a different location than I was picking up, but there is no value in doing so, as it has no impact on whether they will have your car there anymore than if you didn't prepay. You may get a discount for prepaying, but then if it isn't available, the people at the counter can't adjust your price if you get downgraded. I think if you prepay, there should be some additional measures to make sure that your rental car is available. I know many make a reservation and don't bother to show up, but I'm pretty sure the person paying $2K in advance is going to show up, so you need to make sure that car is there. Maybe that means the previous renter has to turn in much earlier than the day of the next rental, but people are jerks and will just keep the car past the date they have to return it because they want to. I think there should be a hefty penalty for that so that people will bring it back on time. But thank you to AVIS for making it right in the end.

Previous: Rented an SUV 10 months in advance and was given a mini van after being laughed at and told "yeah that's not going to happen".

Renter beware. I rent from Avis for business and leisure numerous times a year at similar sized airports, this was the most unorganized rental counter I've ever encountered.

Rental contracts, regardless whether you booked ahead of time, are all completed at the counter making the process very time consuming.

No Preferred line is established. There is no ability to 'Skip the Line' even with the Avis App. Of all the other rental car companies at the Fresno airport, Avis was the only one with a line, the other companies seemed to process their customers far more rapidly.

Overall a very frustrating experience.

Horrible service when picking up car, also when dropping off. Gale a service desk was not helpful at all, one service person and 16 people in-line. I would not utilize Avis at Fresno airport.

Overall it was a good experience. We didn't receive the SUV we had chosen on line. The one we received was smaller. Passage wiper was streaky. The windows needed cleaned. The employees were very nice.

I had to wait in line for over 1.5 hours to pick up my car, and I participate in the preferred program.

Don’t go here, their customer service is the absolute worst. They hang up on you and aren’t helpful at all. Choose enterprise, it’s pricier but way better at everything!

Long story short. If you are sensitive to tobacco or Marijuana andor chemicals trying to hide those smells. Give the vehicle a good wife before loading your stuff in. You will probably not get used to the smell or become nose-blind to it.

I don’t understand what the point of being preferred is here. Every other airport my keys are in my car and I slip the counter. Here they act like u are walking up for the first time and there’s no benefit to being preferred. They need to figure something else out because it gets old fast.

We were helped by Gale who worked with us to plan our trip from Fresno to LA. Without her help it would have been tough getting around Fresno let alone down to LA. My wife and I have three kids and she went above and beyond to get us on our way.

I had very bad experience at Avis Car Rental at Fresno Airport. Booking I made through Avis was cancelled by Mr. Waw for no reason. It was booked through my employer discount. Mr. Waw kept asking many documents that was already provided during the booking at Avis website. Evan after providing all the documents, Mr. Waw canceled the reservation.

My family rented a car at the Fresno airport Avis about 3 weeks ago. We visited the other counters renting cars and it seemed like many of them didn’t have cars and they didnt seem very focused on customer service. Gail was very kind, helpful and went above and beyond to help my family who was traveling with 3 small children (including a 1 year old) and had already taken 3 flights that day before ending up at the Avis counter. I’ve read down the list of negative reviews but we had quite the opposite experience. We rented a newer model ford explorer which was in great condition and experienced no issues with the car for the 8 days we had it -while driving from central CA to Santa Barbara and then to LAX.

I enjoyed my reasonable price on the vehicle I just wish they can put all the charges up front not wait until I bring the car back, then I see a different amount.but overall it was a good deal.it was good on gas ️
