BackAYard Caribbean Grill reviews
17The curry goat is very tender and delicious! We also tried their Jamaican festival (fried sweet dough)! Very good very filling!
Food just wasn’t good? Jerk sauce was not good and food was cold when served It was not busy but the person taking orders was distracted. Seating was like a backyard but okay
Pretty good place to get Caribbean food. We especially like their jerk chicken and the corn festival. This location is very spacious with many tables inside.
1/4/24 Decided to eat a Back A Yard Caribbean Grill and after reviewing the menu, I ordered BBQ chicken (2 legs, 1 thigh) which came with small coleslaw, crinkle Fries, and small Barbecue sauce. In addition I ordered the Macaroni and cheese. The chicken was flavored good but the coleslaw was missing that crunch. Macaroni and cheese was average tasted kind of bland. I also had a fountain soda with my order. Total cost $ 23.68 + $5.00 tip=$30.68
1/5/24: 2nd day in a row eating here. Today I tried the Combo plate (Ribs & Chicken) comes with crinkle fries, added corn bread and fountain soda. Ribs were flavored okay and the good thing not a lot of fat pretty much all meat. Chicken was a leg and a thigh. Fries were okay used BBQ sauce as a dipping sauce.
Save your sleeping pills; just enjoy a meal here and you’ll get a decent nap shortly after
It's an understatement to say I love Caribbean food, and this has always been one of my favorite places to eat.
This was my 1st time at this location. I ordered the curry goat and oxtail combo. They forgot the curry goat, and when I notified them, it was taken care of.
My friend and I ate in the restaurant, and I joked that all Jamaican restaurants must be the same. Same tables and chairs etc. The atmosphere is casual and very comfortable and includes a traditional reggae music mix. The restaurant was empty, with the exception of a mother and her son and us.
The oxtail was a bit on the salty side but still delicious.
I recommend this place not just as a favorite but also as a place to enjoy Jamaican culture away from the island.
Take family and hang out with friends and enjoy good food and music.
I used to love this place when I was first introduced last year. However, quality of the food and sometimes service has been the literal definition of hit or miss. I think they cook the oxtails really well according to my partner. However, when it comes to the vegetarian/vegan plates they drop the ball when it comes to cooking the vegetables thoroughly, I’ve had to recook my vegetables when I get home a few times. This time I asked for them to cook the vegetables more and unfortunately they seemed to simply cut the tofu and through it in without seasoning it. So once again, I had to come home and recook my food. I’m not sure if it’s a matter of cooking staff changes or what but food quality has definitely gone down. It’s disappointing since I like to support Black Owned Business especially in the Bay Area. I hope that management seems this review and makes the necessary changes so nobody has to experience what I have.
Came in today morning and the cashier was so mean when I asked for my food and for the time that I have to wait, even though she screamed at me and told me to get out of the restaurant! There was no manager to talk with about what happened.
I will never be there again
Amazing food at a reasonable price! The jerk chicken was the highlight, perfectly cooked and moist. The oxtails are very fatty but also tender
Downside: the restaurant was out of knives, so I had to use two forks for cutting into the meat. I’m stunned, honestly. The 5 stars here is given under the assumption that they have learned from their mistakes and will plan ahead next time.
Love this place! Friendly staff, decent pricing (even after menu price increase), and most importantly, quality food. Anything on the jerk plate menu is recommended. I haven't been to the restaurant for a while and finally went back today, which made me realize how much I miss the great food here.
Delicious food, huge portions. The only thing I don’t like is they use a LOT of plastic. Get rid of the plastic and I’ll give 5 stars.
Jerk chicken & Jerk salmon OFF THE HOOK. Passionfruit juice YUMMY. Reggae music.
Perfect. Yeah Mon
I came with pretty high expectations, was very disappointed.
Whatever you do, do not get the boneless pork.
It's pretty much just like Spam drowning in BBQ sauce.
The food is amazing, they also give you a very generous portion, we ordered the salad and jerk Goat. Both dishes were great. I definitely will come back.
Great place for a quick bite.large and fair portions. Its got a home town feel with a Caribbean flavor
We are done with this place. Absolute kudos to the food.each time we eat there, and it has been a few times over the recent years, we are amazed by the food quality and taste. Everything in each of the last couple of instances has been top notch.
But the service and staff, including the kitchen staff, are the reasons we will not be returning. On our most recent visit, we ordered catering to be ready @ 11: 30 [they open at 11: 30]. Arriving at 11: 45, and after waiting for another catering order to be filled the person in charge claimed they did not have our order and challenged me to show my order. I had to reach out to my partner to forward me the order via email as we had split up to complete last minute errands for my birthday party. By the time the email arrived the same individual had found the order.
I add the fact that there was another catering order filled to point out that catering was being processed prior to opening.
Instead of focusing the kitchen on executing the catering, $250 worth of catering, and getting that out ahead of walk-ins, the person in charge allowed them to finish what seemed a leisurely pace and filled several orders such that our "it will be ready in five minutes" turned into 25 minutes. When I asked for additional takeout containers in case our guests wanted to take some home. I was told they would have to charge for it.
This is not the first instance of poor service; we've had the staff hang up on us and even the signage in-store is quite off putting.
Great food. Terrible service, and a lack of understanding of how to recover from problems.
Omg, I am addicted to their food. The Jerk Salmon and candied plantains. That's what I call them they are so yummy. Jerk chicken and pork are next on my list. Get a side of the jerk sauce it's worth it. I have been to both the Campbell store and the Menlo park store. Um-Mai! Not a date spot but great for group lunches or dinner.
