Backbone Trail Access at Encinal Canyon reviews
16Quiet uncrowded parking lot with direct access to trail. Very few cars here on Friday morning. The trail is dry and unshaded, a bit hilly, in this area.
Mountain Bikers rejoice; this trail is kept in great condition for the traffic it receives. It's good for all levels and the pedaling is just the right mix to keep you working the whole way up to Yerba Buena's Sandstone Peak Parking Area.
Run a bell if you're coming down the mountain since you're likely to encounter hikers, if you're looking for a longer/tougher ride you can continue down BBT to Zuma Ridge and out to the Kanan access trailhead.
Trail is in good condition for the most part. There are some small encroaching plants in places and some dog poop every mile or so. The parking area was clean and had a lot of room.
The trail comes close to a few expensive-looking houses and crosses paved roads a few times. Other parts of the Backbone Trail are more remote.
Awesome trail. Beginners could ride it. Beautiful wild flowers. Trail overgrown in places. Some turns slippery with gravel. Switchbacks at Yerba Buena tough.
Great views, easy enough for beginner mountain biker. Nice view of the ocean. Don't let the hard pack soil fool you, that too coat is loose especially on flat turns.
Super intimate, great views. It it's very quiet for the most part during the afternoon. Parking was easy. They have a few challenging side trails up the mountain, be very prepared for the incline. Don't do it unprepared, seriously!
Nice trail in decent condition. All uphill from Encinal but not super strenuous. I’m talking about walking.
Early morning is the best time. Nice breeze, you can smell all the flowers. The mustard weeds are a bit overgrown right now but nothing that will stop you from biking hiking or running in this trail. There have been lot of maintenance done starting from the parking entrance that was beaten by the rain and the trails are nice and even now.
Wonderful hiking spot. I went for 7 miles. The incline is full of switchbacks so it is not strenuous at all. If you're hiking alone I recommend not wearing headphones since this is a spot with a lot of trail bikes and they will warn you they are approaching so if you're wearing headphones you might not hear them.
Great place for mountain biking, hiking, and cross country running. It has Beautiful views at the top! Ocean views!
Great trails for hiking or biking! Mellow climbs with amazing views the whole way. Kid friendly as well!
Great flowy downhill perfect for practicing cornering. Great views at the top before the downhill.
Lovely trail, should probably go earlier in the day otherwise there's very little shade
Nice trail, no real feeling you're walking uphill and then an hour later you can see the surf over the hills in Malibu.
Everything is starting to bloom! The trails are well marked start the trail across the street from the parking lot down the road a little bit to your left. You can hike for hours. You walk through all different flora with all different kinds of views, Including a peak at the ocean!
Good easy trail for kids or on a cool day, or to take your furry friend for a stretch. Trail has limited shade and many bikers love to go here (but it's ok we can share!). Mountains look amazing right now since they're green and clean from recent rain storms over the past few months.
