Bakersfield Museum of Art reviews
17I went with my group of developmentally delayed adults that I mentor on a guided tour, Ted, our docent was friendly, knowledgeable, and patient.
A small museum which had four exhibitions when I visited. I enjoyed all of them. The sculpture garden is very well done and a restful place to be. The staff I met were welcoming and a pleasure to interact with.
The Bakersfield Museum of Art should be called “Los Angeles Wannabe MoMA” extension.
The curator is hyper focused on LA artists. They don’t care about Bakersfield and the community.
Multiple local artists here have tried to connect with the curator but she insists she has better projects. Maybe being financially involved with some of these LA artists is too profitable for her? Apparently she financially benefits from some of the Los Angles based artists she curates - multiple business dealings in and out of the city.
If it’s pay for play for being a gatekeeper for Bakersfield culture then put a price list at the door. Hoping a better alternative to this “museum” opens someday so we can enjoy our local artists.
Such a lovely museum nestled in downtown Bakersfield. The staff was great, very courteous and knowledgeable. My favorite is the garden area. A must stop.
Had an AWESOME time at the Art After Dark Pride event! The Art was fantastic and the event was so wonderful. I loved seeing our community OUT AND PROUD!
The museum hosts satanic gatherings and encourages young children to attend to watch homosexual dance shows. "Art after dark. " The Light of God has exposed this satanic institution.
This may not be the Broad or MOMA, but it's a great way to spend some time with a friend. It's fun, clean, decent art, and fairly well curated to reflect local interests. Give it a shot and roll with an open mind.
Great outdoor sculpture garden. Strong connection to local artists and art students by displaying their works.
Now in November 2021 there is a museum wide exhibition of major artists associated with the Ferus Gallery and other major artists especially active in the 1960's, 1970's.
Otherwise, you'll have to go all the way to LACMA to see this genre of art. Bakoites need to come and enjoy this exhibition and save themselves a two hour drive over the Tejón Pass.
The entrance to the museum looks eternally closed with unwelcoming, wide, opaque, wooden doors with no sugnage that indicates the museum is open. Just pull open the door for an enjoyable hour of aesthetic entertainment.
Very good show up right now. Impressive facility in a groovy funky neighborhood with lots of nearby dining and cocktail spots.
The current exhibit is wonderful. It seems the museum has great taste and tries to offer as much variety as possible. Also, the surrounding park makes it a peaceful environment. They offer yoga and meditation events as well.
Since 1956, The Bakersfield Museum of Art has been showcasing fine art and is said to be one of the city’s top attractions.
Inside this large museum are two large galleries and two smaller ones. The permanent collection features art by local artists. The rest of the rotating exhibits feature a mix of art from all over.
The outside grounds of the museum are home to some beautiful gardens and sculptures.
This place is awesome for learning and visiting, it gets crowded and has long lines, they have very cool animals and explanations and shows.i highly recommend it.
Fine local attraction for families, couples, and tourists to hang out to see ocean animals. Also there is a viewing tower across from this museum! Lots of people walking, jogging, or biking along a walking trail in the Golden Gate Park.
I love this place but was disappointed the Rain Forest exhibit was closed. My favorite part was simulated flying like a pterosaur - the new name for pterodactyls. Lots of fun. Scientists have learned a lot about them since I went to school. Also enjoyed displays about evolution of the earth's crust and the beautiful gift shop. Prices in the cafe are a bit expensive tho. Still worth a visit!
Strongly recommend this place! It was the great place for the kids! My son and daughter loves it! And we had a good family times there!
The exhibits are great and educational for kids. We went to the rainforest and to the gem and skin exhibits which were a great learning experience. I honestly was impressed the most by the beautiful butterflies.
