Bashor is an amazing place! Very personal and reasonable. They offered some very good suggestions and the arrangements were beautiful! The flowers were fresh and smelled amazing. If you need flowers this is the place to go to!

Praise for Balshor Florist. I called Saturday morning to order a thank-you table arrangement delivered to those hosting a Friday evening event. The order was taken effectively and efficiently in a helpful manner, was delivered that afternoon as promised, and was very well received by the recipitent who then sent me a picture of the arrangement. I was quite pleased with the flowers used and their presentation.

It’s some kind of wonderful.

I’ve been meaning to make banana bread and I was going to do it today. As I was preparing, I discovered I was missing an ingredient. So off to Target I go, bought my items, and headed for home. As I drive off the Target parking lot, I thought I’d really love some flowers for me right now, as I’ve been wanting some the last few days. It puts me in a good mood since I’ve been low lately, as all of us are currently.

I knew of this floral shop not too far from Target and it was on the way. I always see it when I use Riverside Blvd. I’ve always been curious of Balshor Florist, the vintage sign painted on the front. As I passed by, I saw the sign OPEN but I wanted to make sure they allowed walk-ins, so I called. It was a funny phone conversation with the owner because there were times I misunderstood what she was asking. Anyway, she said I could come in but, I had to wear a mask and gloves. (They’re not open for walk-ins because of the guidance but she was very nice to allow an exception.)

Mask? Check!
Gloves? Drats!

“I have hand sanitizer with me, ” hoping it’d be enough for consideration.

“Ok that works. ”

I turned my car around, drove into their lot, parked my car, walked up, and knocked on the glass door. A cat walked across inside the store looking at me, curious at who woke her from the afternoon nap. Who is knocking at the door? She stares at me.

“Hi cat! It’s just me. I’d like to buy flowers. ”

The owner walks up to the front and opens the door.

“Hi are you the one who called? ”

“Hi. Yes, that was me! ”
She lets me in. I go for the flower fridge I was eyeing from outside.

“Are you giving this to someone? ”
I smiled. “Oh no, it’s for me. ”

She points at the bouquets and they’re $20. I thought That’s a steal! Pretty!
But I have no vase at home. I looked at the single stemmed vase arrangements, and there were more elaborate ones. I saw a square vase with beautiful flowers. She opens the door and shows it to me. Right then, behind that vase, a single stemmed sunflower caught my eyes.

“Oooh sunflower! That one is pretty! ” I like that one! ”

She checks the price, and it was much lower than the square vase arrangement I originally wanted. The price point didn’t bother me. I would’ve bought the elaborate arrangement, but this one, I liked best.

We head towards the counter and she puts it in a box for me. I squirt hand sanitizer on my hands to make sure I was germ free. She’s also of old age and it would be rude not to use hand sanitizer as she was in the high risk group.

“Here you go hun, ” and hands the boxed flower to me. I pull out my debit card to pay. She wasn’t taking my card. I was baffled. I paused. And then my eyes widened as I realized what happened.

“Oh! Oh, thank you so much! ”

I couldn’t believe that I was taking this single stemmed sunflower home, no charge.

“Come back soon okay? ”
With a delighted feeling and a big smile hidden under my mask, “Oh absolutely! I will come back! ”

“Thank you for following the safety guidelines. ”

“Oh of course! Thank you! ”

As I drive away from the parking lot of Balshor Florist on Riverside Blvd, I couldn’t believe my luck on this simple gesture.

A single-stemmed sunflower and a generous kindness, made me feel like I won a grand prize.
