Barlow Respiratory Hospital, Los Angeles CA

My brother-in-law was transferred to Barlow from another hospital and the experience was like night and day. Besides being thorough and proactive, the staff is incredibly nice - especially the nurses and social/case workers. Their treatment was aggressive and, within a week, he no longer needed the ventilator or oxygen. We felt assured that he was being properly cared for at this facility.

As, many people know my mom is a hurting puppy. She fell and had a massive brain hemorrhage part of the flap/skull removed and stitches around the head. She was transfered from a hospital that ever day told me let her go. She came from neglect from one LTech hospital with a level 4 wound in her back bigger than a grapefruit. She has had 3 brain surgeries, 9 blood transfusions, 2 blood clots in the arm, on a vent, dialysis 3 x a week. Today the wound is showing great signs of healing. Her color in her face is coming back. I am so grateful everyday for Barlows level of care. My mother is here with me due to their care and compashion from their staff and doctors in a very short stay.shelly

We had two choices between Barlow and another hospital. We chose Barlow we are so happy we did. My father is very happy with the way they are taking care of him. The entire staff is super awesome and aware of all my dads needs and very friendly. They are on top of every task and explain everything very well. Thank you!

Very wonderful place to have a family member recuperate, nurses are very tentative to patients and take very good care of them. The doctors would literally give us a call every day and give us updates without having to call them or nag about updates very professional place for someone that needs to be recuperating.

From the first contact with our wonderful in take case manager Laura, to our tour of the hospital with the Director of Nursing, David and then the actual hospital stay for my father we were very impressed and made to feel comfortable and at ease with the care he was receiving. His nurses were so caring and nice. They took great care of him! His therapists were also so awesome. From speech therapy with Rachel and Amica who both went the extra mile. From physical and occupational therapy with Rachel, Bong, Ana, Hector and Marion who thought out of the box to try things with him. They always kept us up to date and when we couldn't be there due to covid restrictions they would facetime us for therapy sessions. The nurses would give great updates and take the extra time to set up facetime with my father. We really appreciate all of the staff! Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. There are just too many names to mention. Also, we appreciated Kathleen the discharge case manager for working with us to get him to the next place on his recovery journey. Thank you to the entire Barlow hospital staff for all you did for my father and helping him with his recovery!

My daughter was at Barlow for 6 weeks after a horrific car accident and the staff was always warm, caring and extremely professional!
I would definitely recommend for Respiratory and other medical issues. Thank you so much for your wonderful care.

The Barlow family on the 3rd flow were such an Amazing blessing that I encounter. I’m so grateful that God bless me to go there for my treatment because I had been looking for a place that helps with every part of your body. And they were the team. The doctors Dr. A (Mr Turtleneck) to all the Nurses (Sam) ; CNA (Maria; Edith; Jerica, Angelica, etc) to Physical Therapy (P; Niki; Juan; Joshua; Princess; Patrick and etc) ; Respiratory Therapy (Rey; DA, Lee; Roman; Armenian; &etc) and all of housekeeping and maintenance…. Thank God for the team of Social Workers (Jessica) and even the patient… I apologize if I miss the name of all those that assist me.thanks to the RT & Nurses that also help me leave safely… To all of them on the 3rd floor that help bring back my laughter… THANK YOU! I love them and I hope I get to see y’all again.out and about… God Bless.

Even with staff shortages due to COVID, my father who had suffered from a stroke was well taken care of during his stay. The staff were very attentive. Thank you Barlow!

My dad will be arriving here soon from St John's hospital I hope this works out for him his name is Michael and he is a beautiful soul full of life and I want to keep fighting for my dad till the end I hope the staff understand I am always gonna be around I am very nice but I'm my dad's eyes n voice for now

It’s hard to put into words the support we received at Barlow Respiratory. When my dad was first transferred on full support of a ventilator, tracheostomy, and feeding tube… he was terrified to be there and although he had a rocky beginning, the nurses, the cnas, respiratory, and doctors turned his experience into something I can never thank them enough for… his anxiety was difficult to deal with but these nurses, CNAs, respiratory therapist went above and beyond to help him. They didn’t give up and for that we are grateful. All the support and extra time made a huge difference in my dads recovery. Barlow gave me piece of mind as well as the support that my family needed while my dad was a patient. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ️ I highly recommend this facility!

The doctors, nurses, RTs, social worker, case managers and all the staff are so kind, caring and compassionate! I’m so grateful for the care my son has received. There are so many staff persons to mention that I wouldn’t want to miss anyone. Thank you so much, Barlow, for having such a wonderful staff! You are all amazing!

Do not be fooled by the 4 star rating. This place is awful. My brother spent three weeks at this facility and I can not wrap my head around the fact that we actually were recommended to go here. Barlow is extremely short staffed, under equipped, doctors are scarce, case manager was incompetent, and the care is decent at best. I have horror stories about this place but I won’t divulge because in my heart I want to believe that they are there to actually help people instead of just getting paid. Please take your loved ones elsewhere. Terrible experience at Barlow.

My wife was admitted to Barlow at Valley Prespbyterian in Van Nuys to recover from Covid-19. I couldn't be happier with the care she received. The doctors, nursing staff, therapists and social worker were all amazing. My wife felt that she was receiving best care available. We would highly recommend Barlow Respiratory to anyone in need of a respiratory hospital.

My dad was there for over a month before he was transferred to a Rehab facility. The care, treatment, nurses and doctors were great and our family is very grateful.

The facilities are still being updated, but the staff are all efficient, caring, and helpful. Truly excellent care.

I had a relative at Barlow for about a month. We couldn't visit because of Covid-19 protocol but the staff did an amazing job keeping us in the loop. I can only imagine how difficult and stressful their jobs were in the middle of the pandemic but the nurses were always so friendly even though you could tell they were slammed. Dr. Conti and Dr. Shi were incredibly kind, calling with daily updates, answering any questions, extremely compassionate. Julia in the office was also fantastic!

With such a great team of people who are able to be so gracious even under such extraordinary circumstances, I'd recommend Barlow to anyone.

My brother was transferred to Barlow after being in ICU for 6 weeks at UCLA. Being severely ill with Covid and Covid Pneumonia, he was a miracle. Still had a lot of care needed and Barlow certainly continued his care. I was very hesitant about this hospital, simply because my brother is a UCLA patient and he is all UCLA affiliates. I was not pleased to learn he would be out of the UCLA system. Or so I thought. Barlow has the best attending UCLA Physicians.yes UCLA physicians. Not only that, from the start the staff was very welcoming and informative. They gave me peace of mind and answered all my questions. My brother has so many underlying conditions. Going into Barlow with a tracheotomy was not easy to accept for any of us. But Barlow was the right place for him! Barlow weened my brother off the ventilator, they provided wound care, they gave him speech therapy, and RNA therapy. The nurses were very kind to him. Nurse Ana from second floor, THANK you for always keeping me updating and staying on top of my brothers healthcare! Thank you to Ariel, Anastacia, Dr. Eng, Dr, Ramirez, Dr. Way, Hector (RNA therapist), Rafael, Dr. Brailey, Dr. Nelson AND the entire staff for doing such a wonderful job! My brother has now been transferred over to a sub acute in Santa Monica and where his care is being continued. They will continue to provide his therapies and we will soon be able to bring him home with or no trach. These last almost 4 months have felt an eternity but God is with us and we are so thankful to the Barlow staff! -The Martinez Family
