Belle Sirène Salon, La Jolla CA

This is actually a one star review but i do not want the artist fired*
Tldr: artist took liberties with my hair, turning what shouldve been a 3 hr session into multiple sessions and well over twice as much as the OG session to get it fixed. (250 before tip for half a head of 1.5 ft length hair)

Original hair: dense and fine hair, natural half virgin chocolate brown hair, bleached half was cool sandy blonde. Tere was an inch of virgin growth and an inch and change that was treated with only the bleach bath. This is what i called a "halo".
My original request: ideal best case was for my whole head to match the blonde. The blonde i had 2 bleach treatments, 2 toners and one bleach bath. Second was copy the blonde side exactly on the brown side, lift the halo to match the blonde if possible. Third was just to match the blonde side including the halo height on the brown side. No highlights in brown or blonde growth were mentioned. I Mentioned multiple times the density of my hair and my concern about timeframe. Said i wanted to even the blonde in both sides so that i could color it brightly in the future. He said the density wouldnt be an issue and he at that time would not be handling the halo at all so he would only bleach my hair to match the growth. He also said he could match the lift i got in multiple treatment in his one session. Was told 10 to 1230 would be enough time.

Day of: artist talked about "changing his mind" pointing to the halo and said he would lighten it so it feels more cohesive, and would do something fun here, pointing to the brown side crown area, to bring it all together.
I understood this as he was lifting the halo and doing highlights where the growth near the roots was, then doing solid blinde where we agreed before.
Saw him start teasing my hair and I asked what that does, cincerned he was going to leave brown on the currently unbleached side. "Gets the short bit of hair we arent bleaching out of the way. " Something to that effect, making me think he was getting the growth length aside and out of the way.
Made lovely conversation during bleaching process, asked several times if i was OK comfortwise. Artist apologised for being in a rush during consult (took 20 mins of 45 booked, had a friend/client he was cutting their hair at the same time). I had called work to inform them my work start time was going to be pushed back an hour, twice.
I mentioned the colors i used to tone my hair before we moved to toning, indicating cool tones. He used a "mix of warm and cool" unsure if cooler tone was on the too warm side and warmer tone on the cool side to bring it up to thr golden color of the darker side or purely mixed up.
Took from 10 to 1430, left with wet hair. Hair felt nice but dried into frizz with no definition on the newly treated side.
There are swaths of brown that were left rather than my entire head being blonde. The "fun" was not highlights in the growth, it was him leaving brown!
The blonde itself was not nearly lifted enough to match what i had done already. He also used a warm toner mixed with cool toner, vs cool only.

In the fixit session, it wasnt until nearly halfway through when i went over again that i was not ok with the brown at all that he began to bleach over them. He did handle bleaching over the new growth and the band. He did as i asked for bleaching the brown but was dipleased and said "he was tring to create dimension. " I can appreciate that, however do it on someone that asks for that. I wanted my hair a solid blonde. I was in the chair from 9 to 3: 30 pm.

I went to a local salon and had my hair treated there to fix this. It will take at least twice as much to fix the issue he created as it was to see him in the first place. It will also take months to do it properly. Me asking for half my head bleached should have been a straight forward appointment but it was made complicated for no reason i can list. Please ensure you talk exactly with your artist abt what you want before you start and do not continue if they do not give you their full attention.

I recently got my highlights and hand tied weft extensions done by Taylor and couldn’t be happier! As a mom of two, with my littlest 9 months old, it’s been a long time since I’ve felt like my old self. It’s hard to put myself in the front of the priority line, but I decided to when booking this appointment. Not only do I love my hair, but I had such a nice time just relaxing at the salon. It’s absolutely beautiful, and everyone is so kind. Taylor’s hair washing literally gave me chills, it was such a treat! And though I’ve worn extensions on and off for many years, her efficiency and focus on detail was like nothing I’ve experienced before. The quality of my extensions are amazing! So worth the cost. I should note, I’ve also had my color done by Sara and Megan and have been so happy! Belle Sirène is my favorite escape and I will continue to prioritize my time here.

I am very uncomfortable allowing a stylist to cut my hair, but going here and having my hairstyle updated by Raquel was the best thing I’ve done for myself in a long time! We discussed my hair routine, particular concerns, and addressed what would best accent my personal features. She was able to determine from my hair texture that I required a more moisturizing product line and assisted me in understanding how to obtain quenched locks that look spectacular as well as feel great.

My hair had a straight, blunt style that was frizzing out badly when I arrived to my appointment.

When I left, it was fantastic with great movement and shine. I felt so beautiful and cared for!

Thank you for a great style, the time you provided me to learn more about my hair type, and for educating me on maintaining the desired look that you created.

A few days later, I still look great and I have the confidence that I can manage my hair texture now ️

Such a great experience here. Salon is beautiful and clean. Trying a new stylist after moving from NJ was nerve wracking but I am so happy I chose to go with Caitlin. Super friendly and really cares to make sure you’re getting exactly what you want. A perfectionist is exactly what I want when it comes to investing a good amount of money into my balayage! Overall super happy with the salon, stylist, prices and the way my hair looked after leaving:)

I just called today to make an appointment and their receptionist with a baby voice told me I couldn't because first I have to fill out a client profile online? ! What in hell kind of La Jolla snobbery is this? ! Even if I could get an appointment I wouldn't go to this salon ever! Super rude and unprofessional! I'll take my money and business elsewhere thank you very much! Check your egos!

Isn’t able to accommodate curly hair. This should be standard for all salons / licensed stylists.

I had an appointment scheduled then told them I have 3A-3B hair and was told I would no longer be able to have my appointment the following day - would need to wait 2x weeks to be seen for a curly hair blow out.

Way too much curly hair discrimination and ignorance in the hair industry and expect more from something highly rated / in a place with a Hispanic community.

Upon the recommendation of a friend, I visited Belle Sirène for a much needed trim. Raquel listened to what I wanted and skillfully provided me with a fresh style that far exceeded my expectations. She is wonderful and I’m so glad I stopped in. If you are looking for a fantastic cut/style, go see Raquel!

This place is IT. From the moment I walked in I knew everything was going to go seamlessly. I’m happy to report that my experience was indeed phenomenal! I’ve been searching for the right stylist for over 2 years so I’m beyond appreciative I finally found her. Sara was absolutely amazing. Her attitude, approach, and technique were everything I’ve been missing. I’m so obsessed with my hair, finally confident in my own skin again? I count not recommend enough!

Nino did a wonderful job on my highlights! He pays great attention to detail and ensures the finished product is exactly what you requested! I would highly recommend Nino and Belle Sirene to anyone seeking professional blonde highlights with a natural look!

Extremely happy with the outcome. Caitlin at Belle Siren basically did a complete transformation with my color. (see attched before and after) I went from a dirty brown color to a gorgeous vanilla blonde. She has super precise placement techniques, and understands how to brighten while also having it look natural. I can't stand when hairstylists take short cuts on color placement or products and Caitlin not only didn't take any shortcuts but she used top of the line products on my hair. Highly recommend!

I love this salon! I had tried a few different ones when I first moved to San Diego 4 years ago and once I found Belle Sirene I never looked back. I’ve seen a few different stylists and they all do an incredible job! I have been seeing Lorena consistently for a few years now and love her. She’s the best- she’s great and what she does and is so friendly. The salon is also always bustling and clean. Would recommend to anyone looking for a fun upbeat salon with great stylists

I have thick curly hair and have struggled to find a good stylist for the cut, the color, and the style. I’ve had only good experiences at Belle Sirene and Nino, in particular, has been exceptional. He makes my hair look gorgeous when I leave the salon and it grows in so nicely that I can go for extra time between cuts and my hair holds up. The service from everyone there is helpful and friendly. I can’t recommend the salon highly enough!

I had an amazing, first experience at Belle Sirène Salon. With having SO much long, thick hair- I often feel like most hairstylists are overwhelmed when working with my hair. However, Raeden made me feel so comfortable and was so kind! My hair had a somewhat "botched" cut from a previous salon, and I very self-conscious of how my hair looked. Fortunately, Raedon is very talented and gave the fix and color I so desperately needed! Beautiful salon and excellent stylists. Found my new home:)

Love Hayley! Have been coming to her for a couple of years and wouldn’t go anywhere else. Love the atmosphere and location of the salon and never have a problem with parking.

I love coming to Belle Sirène! Sara has given me the best blonde I’ve ever been. The thing is even if it was just about how my hair looked I’d give a 5 star review but I leave the salon feeling amazing and beautiful! Sara not only has an amazing sense of detail and wants to make sure the color and cut are on point but also that you feel the best you possible, inside and out. When I wanted to get extensions I went to Hayley and I love them! Hayley did such a great job and I get compliments everyday on my hair. Hayley also took the time to figure out what I was looking to get from extensions, she color matched me perfectly, she was fast and explained how to care for my hair. I have to say everyone at the salon is super friendly and the music is great! It’s a joy to come to Belle Sirène!

Had the best haircut by Raquel! She knew exactly what I needed and I feel like new person! 1st time at the salon and I’m for sure coming back!

I absolutely love Belle Sirene and can't say enough good things about Nino. He truly knows what he is doing and I trust him completely. He has helped me get my hair healthy and I love his cuts. I have a lot of hair and he takes his time to make sure everything is just perfect. I'd been thinking of coloring my hair for awhile, but was always too nervous to take the plunge. I finally went for it this weekend because I trusted that Nino would do a good job. He is honest about what he thinks would work or not work, and he is always mindful of keeping my hair healthy. I've recommended him to all my friends! I also just love Belle Sirene. It is so inviting and charming. So happy to have this salon and Nino here in La Jolla!

Love this salon! I have been multiple times to have a cut and balayage and they do beautiful work. The atmosphere is friendly and upbeat, everyone is so nice. Very happy every time I have had services here!

So happy I found Belle Sirène! Anyone with blonde hair knows how hard it can be to find someone you trust with your hair. It took me years of living in San Diego to finally find a salon I know will always get it right. Nino is absolutely amazing and so talented. I’m always so happy leaving the salon because not only is my color perfect but my hair also feels healthy as well. I’ve received so many compliments on my hair since I’ve been going to Belle Sirène.
